I think Spud would be a good match up for Mathew Pavlitch being able to compete in the air and strength wise however does he have the pace, i think our brain trust has found a very good player there in Mick and gives a %100 every game.
What other match up do other see?
Glove Vs Belly or Halsebe
Leroy Vs Simmons?
Watt Vs Longmire?
Make Vs Medhurst
any thoughts

Firrito vs Pavlich
Rawlings vs Hasleby
M.Stevens vs Bell
Petrie vs Longmuir
Watt vs Simmonds
Makepeace vs Farmer
King vs Medhurst

On the defensive side for the Dockers :
Parker vs Brown
Hayden vs Motlop
Haddrill vs Rocca (big plus for us, and I reckon they have no other options)
McPharlin vs Hale (should be a good contest)
Carr vs Jones

Glove vs Hasleby
Spud vs Pavlich
Grant vs Bell
M.stevens vs Browne
Sav vs Mcpharlin
Watt vs Medhurst (strong and quick)

Longmuir was reported today for striking. I didn't see what happened but lets hope he gets at least a week.
It was as soft as crap. Rohan smith should get 3 for acting. The case will be withdrawn.
It really depends where pavlich is played. He plays his best footy at CHF, and is used only used in the midfield because of the "developing midfield" and how it "needs time"
I think we should concentrate on schammer and haselby. Great players. Watt should take simmonds at full forward.

Medhurst is the problem matchup, so i would also go for watt on medhurst. That leaves brown/petrie on JLo (with the other playing chf), and colby on simmonds. The only problem is that if colby makes too many mistakes in reading the play, then the dockers will punish North by going to simmonds all the time. Jnr could play on medhurst, but i prefer him up fwd.

I reckon the only thing that will save Mick from being dropped, if he isn't, will be Freo's power at ground level.

Although who did he tag against the Bombers? On television you don't really see it, he may have done his job fine.

Sansbury can come in for Mick as a possibility.

Sansbury can take a small forward such as Medhurst or Farmer, but I see M.Stevens as more of a defensive midfielder (ie - second tagger behind Rawlings). M.Stevens is possibly the only bloke with the endurance to go with Peter Bell, other than Rawlings who will most likely get Hasleby. Grant should stay on a HFF where his best footy is played, and leave the ball-carrying duties to Wells and King who have a bit more toe and hit targets a bit better.

re-bell

Darky i like all your match ups
BUT Bell-M.Stevens-this would be a disaster IMO!
Not hitting the soup early this week are we!!
Would be better to give Watson a go
he would be suited to big ground and has
IMO a future at the club!
M.Stevens is not up to it-full-stop!!!!!!
That been said we cannot go ultra defensive IMO
we need to stretch there defense with Hale/L.Brown/Rocca
that will give them plenty to think about!

Thoughts??

Agree with those match ups although Hayden was dropped last week and had a terrible game in the WAFL so i dont expect him to line up against us which is great because i rate him.
I expect Dion Woods to match up on Motlop.

Go Roos

Hale may come in for Porter. Hale could actually give us the upper hand by running Sandilands the big freak around a bit.

Watt on Medhurst could be a chance.

M Stevens was on Murphy when he kicked the bulk of his goals IIRC. Will play this week due to the size of Subi and his ability to tag.

Wells can win us this footy game, but he will be tagged starting now IMO. Give him free reign and he will cut teams apart. Expect a bit of a quite one as he copes with the run with player.

Sandilands is going to get 100 hit outs against Ports i think. It puts a huge amount of pressure on our midfield to have to read his tap work and gives them first use of the ball.

This is the only position that has me very worried.

Pavlich is also a problem but its the first use out of the middle which is what makes the Dockers dangerous.

If he is sitting at CHF and the ball isn't going forwards he obviously isn't much of a risk.

I dont know if Hale is coming in but I don't think his rucking skills have developed enough as yet to be any more effective than Porter in the ruck.

Hale may be more important as an option to go to CHF if Petrie is doing nothing again. Petrie could go down to CHB and that would leave us with at least 2 good marking options up forward. I'd also play Brown forward giving us three. That would allow us to have Harding, Motlop and Harvey as small forwards, give us some marking options and some run at ground level.

I dont think we should play too defensively. We will upset the Freo gameplan if we win the ball and force them to have to worry about stopping US. If our gameplan is too defensive we wont win enough of the ball to kick a winning score.

Who is picking up all their players? I don't care, lets win the ball out of the middle and pile on some goals and let them worry about who is picking our players up. It will be hard to win a defensive or low scoring game there, need to cut the crowd out early on with a bag of early goals and keep the scoreboard pressure on.

Make 'em count and apply the screws

True Tas...North will relish the space if we attack and move the ball quickly but as soon as we stop doing this the pressure on Freo NEEDS to be applied as it's more about converting your chances at Subi than stopping the opposition. I'd hate to think that one poor quarter will cost us the game again against Freo.

Oh and Darky if you think Hale is in the team who do you think will be dropped?

Can't really pick it. Logic would say M.Stevens based on last week, but I think he has a role against Bell.

This'll be an interesting week to see where we are at in terms of Laidley's plans for 2004-05. At 7-7 and still clearly in the finals hunt does he play Hale for the long term, or does he leave him out because there's no room? It was only a month ago he said Hale must always play because it's the only way forward.

Against Hawthorn (& Everitt, the best in the business), Pagan used the tactic of two or three going "third up" at bounces around the ground, to nullify the big Spida. Pound for pound Sandilands is nowhere near as good, but at 211cm/120kg a one-on-one will have to rely on crooked bounces and jumping over the top for an advantage. Worth a look with Brown, Simpson and Wells?
