From the Saints website.
With Bonner’s arrival completing St Kilda’s list for Season 2024 there is no room for Dan McKemzie.
Dan did everything possible to get his body right, receiving specialised medical advice and treatment during the off-season, however given the unexpected availability of late draft picks, talent on the board to bolster our list for the future and the addition of Riley, our list has unfortunately reached capacity.

Meaning there are more spots on the list.

9 players went off the list and 9 were added to it.

At the moment you can have between 36 and 38 primary listed players. You can have four-to-six category A traditional rookies and you can have two category B rookies for a maximum of 44 players.

So does that mean our list is completely full?
No more space on the primary list and no more rookie space?
Anyone know for sure?

A busy draft has seen St Kilda officially axe luckless wingman Daniel McKenzie, with the club unable to find a list spot for him even across the pre-season.

McKenzie was set to train with the club over the summer with a view to re-signing him during the pre-season supplemental selection period.

But that spot on the list is no longer available after the Saints selected six players this week, including ex-Port Adelaide defender Riley Bonner in the pre-season draft.

of that list... the ones we are in red time on are:
  • ross
  • webster
  • hill
  • wood
  • crouch
  • sinclair

all of them were part of our best 22 this year. significantly 5 of them are a big part of our midfield or atleast run through there.

the hope would be that because wood and hill are outside players they could stick around into their 30s. sinclair same deal off HBF.

but we really need to be finding replacements.

Every team has 5/6 players in this range they are keeping an eye on, so I wouldn't be too worried.

We do have a big crop of 26-28 underneath them that will creep up to 30 before we know it, so we need to keep pumping youth while having a solid veteran core.

I think that Sinclair can age like a far more talented Zach Touhy, and Hill and Wood have a few good years left. Crouch is a big concern as he's our most prolific mid at the moment.

Depending on how they go next year - Clark, Byrnes, Paton, McKenzie, Jones even Hayes. If we can bring in another key defender possibly Howard.

The 23 I'd love to see:

FB: Stocker, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Windhager, Battle, NWM
R: Marshall, Crouch, Steele
C: Wood, Sinclair, Hill
HF: Owens, King, Henry
FF: Butler, Caminiti, Higgins
IC: Phillipou, Sharman, Ross, Dow (Wilson)

  • A few hard calls - Bonner and Clark in particular - but injury should provide opportunity
  • Crouch Steele Sinclair rotate with Owens, Dow, Phillipou as second string CBAs - that's our future right there
  • Ross I think still adds value, but needs to be moved to role player, and transitioned out of CBAs
  • Stocker, Windhager, Henry probably the three with the biggest question marks, and can see some rotation here if injuries don't provide opportunity for others (pending form)

Dmac has been delisted.
Jones is not going to get you a third either will Paton or Byrnes , Hayes has played one decent game in his life and is limited plus always injured.
Clark is the only one that would have any value and he may get us a late second if he can stay on the park this year , i just think you are massively overrating the ones you named.

I think Coops might get a regular game- looked OK in our final compared to a few others and will improve further I think under Lyon.

Just that I don't see him as a locked in member of our Seniors, form dependent. If he can cement himself that would be great, but others are locked in given their experience (age), performance or importance to structure.

I tend to agree with you both, hence he is in my ideal 23, but I think he isn't locked in. If others perform and he doesn't, I think the question would be asked. Appears to have hit preseason running though, which makes a difference with Ross.

This is the part of the list that concerns me, quite one-paced and short. Would've really liked Charlie Edwards - this draft was light on taller midfielders

If you have a look DMac was being invited to train when I posted that. I am quite positive about our list moving forward particularly if we play finals again, it lifts the finge players value. Perhaps the reality is somewhere in the middle as you seem very negative about our fringe players.

Obviously the AFL have changed the Cat B list rules, now including them in the total list numbers of 44. You have to wonder now whats the point of having the two rookie list categories?

I'm not negative, you just have rose coloured glasses on , I see our fringe players as the new recruits, not blokes that have had plenty of chances
