St Kilda are like the voters that the Liberal party convince to vote against their own self interest every election.
The suns have never played in a final. Brisbane has had one guy at pick 14 and the rest mostly at picks in the 35-60 region.
Meanwhile half the Victorian clubs are rorting the cap and making the Victorian market uncompetitive for the Saints who can’t attract anyone as a small club.
He was a father son option for NM and Brisbane. He opted for the Swans via the academy instead.

Alot of us have been complaining about father sons since Hawkins was drafted, and considering we have lost our last two premierships to two teams littered with talented father sons i think saints fans have a fair gripe considering we have only seen one father son for 9 games in the last 30 odd years. I know its all luck and by the time i'm 80 it might be our turn but lets not pretend its making no difference for these teams or that we are only now annoyed once Brisbane got some.
Shouldn't have been an option.
Do you think Carlton & Essendon receiving blockbuster scheduling and the associated funding and marketability that comes with that, across the past quarter of a century is a benefit of their own merit? Even in their poorest onfield periods they retained this benefit.
Some of the worst teams in football opened the season for 13 years.
It's cronyism. But there's always those who stand back and admire.
I only know of two teams that were shipped off. Yours and the lions.
In fairness, it was Hawkins being drafted that introduced the bid system.
Clubs started to get a bit smarter, and realised that if they had sole access to a certain player, it was in their absolute best interests to give that player a head start before they actually turned 18.
Rather convenient thought after your club wants to offer a GWS player $5mill to jump ship after he has only played 12-games in his career.

yeah you often cast a wider net on draft day if you have a father son come along, with the added benefit of one of them kinda loving the club already not massively different to academy really.
Which is what Cooper Hodge may do. Wait for the whinging about that if it comes to pass.

I don’t get your point here. St Kilda are offering 12 gamers A-grader money. They have to be struggling to spend the cap based on the squad they roll out every week.

Of course they are. But you either like the rule or you don’t.
I’ve always liked the rule despite my team not being advantaged until very recently and losing a GF to a team of high F/S picks.
The comments about the academies are ludicrous. We are assisting the competition as much as VFL club supporters want to chug their own clubs’ VFL rhetoric.
The more academy players we produce. The less talent drain away from Victoria.

You do realise that Brisbane lions are the brisbane bears, right? We didn't used to be Fitzroy because both Fitzroy and Brisbane bears were in the same competition at once. We're not Sydney where South Melbourne relocated. We absorbed Fitzroy, but we used to be the Brisbane bears. Huge difference.

"Fitzroy's administrator Michael Brennan favored a merger with Brisbane, which was endorsed by the AFL Commission and the other club presidents on 4th July 19964. This merger of the club operations of Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears at the AFL level, formed the Brisbane Lions."

Amazingly, some of you still haven't bothered to watch the full speech. You know that Bassat admits our lack of success is our own fault right? Or is this minimal level of nuance too difficult for you to understand?
Then there's those who support clubs who have benefitted most from the current system. A bit of self awareness wouldn't go astray. It is amateurish that the premiers will get the best player in the draft for essentially free. There is no argument against this.
Then there's those who would actually benefit from a system change (like Richmond who are going to miss out on the best player in the draft), who are piling on because hur dur st kilda bad hahahaha. Talk about mob mentality.
Maybe the smartest bloke in here though is the one day old Brisbane Lions account claiming that the Brisbane Lions were never Fitzroy. Either a wonderful troll or the next NASA physicist.
Time to use some critical thinking. I know it's been a while for most of you. But if you want a fair competition then the fully compromised draft is the first thing that needs to change.
