In what universe do we lose to the saints and still have a good season? Its a must win for any team who will play at the pointy end, just get it done boys.

I remember a year where the Swans had a dreadful start to the year and still made finals.

I look forward to beating St Kilda in the prelim at Optus after they limp in from 7th.

We should be equal first after 6 rounds. After that we should really find out how much we have improved. I would hope to have a 125% + at that stage as well.

If the saints get into the finals RTB would have done very well with the players coming back. They don't get king back until week 8 or 9. A heap of missed preseasons... Could get very ugly for the saints. I think they will be one of the most interesting story lines this season.

I didn't think we could win the flag last season. But it was a very exciting time!
Whatever you might feel as a supporter, if you were asked if team X who is sitting 3rd halfway into a season and had beaten 4 of the top 5 teams around them (two of them on the road) had a look at winning the flag, you'd think yes, surely.

I don't think anyone really had us as a genuine flag threat at that point. The test was always going to be the middle quarter of the year and how we finished.

But I get your point, I just thought most were finally thinking we would actually play finals as we weren't really rated as a team yet.

I absolutely do

As long as we have minimal injuries

I'll wear the flack on here if we don't at least make top 4

It's funny, because they have mentioned recently when predicting teams seasons that we were a bit less defensively sound after the bye, which statistically maybe true, but overall we still finished 2nd best defense, 5th overall, and only 2 points off making top 4 with a better percentage than Hollingwood who get kissed on the pee-ni when it comes to less travel mileage. And of course Carlton papped the bed.

Yet apparently we seem more questionable than anyone else who made the top 8? I know we have our Freo bias, but it feels like we got the sniffly juggernauts of the AFL's backs up with all that.....how very dare we!!! Of course, who knows what might happen this year; anything is on the table. I think we all respect the fact that we took some surprising steps last year, pulled off some serious rabbits from beanie wins and saw some massive strides under J-Lo's shrewd coaching tactics. And we still sucked in the wet, go figure.

Yeah, like I say.....funny

I can not stress enough how much you need to look at these two threads - do it now or you'll miss out

Regardless of the Saints injury list, we need to be at our best. We don't defend well against small forwards and they have most of their contingent fit. Also Ross has a great record in round one matches. I'm wary but as others said, we must win. We've got the Saints at a good time. And with a tougher draw in 2023, we must bank the 50/50 or 60/40 matches.

Yes opinion is one thing, but it also has a lot of wrinkles. There's also allot of post hoc revising that just happens automatically in the brain to give some predictive allusion for reassurance.

Pundits were at the time saying yes they're a chance though.

But my point was simply if you're top four you're a serious chance.

I think we’ll drop one unexpectedly in the first few - usually the first few rounds is when the young sides (i.e. North) are up and about, without the fatigue of the season kicking in.

We are due for our annual Saints bedshit game anyway, no reason it cant be round 1 against half their list

Is there something to how Ross does preseason and injuries or is this a coincidence? Seems to be a lot of achilles and calf injuries. You wouldn't think there would be much to it but the correlation is starting to get overwhelming

Including King, Billings, Hayes, Coffield, Zak Jones.
Their midfield is decimated and forward line is small. 14 players on their injury list.
Saints fan here, first three choices for key fwds are out, will be hard to kick a winning score. However, the St Kilda midfield isn't decimated. Jones and Billings aren't best 22 and Ross, which some people mentioned is on the fringe. Coffield (obvs not a mid, but he isn't best 22 either). I reckon you guys win but it will likely be you guys running over us late, Dockers by 19.

Can't see us doing you by 19 goals with Ross coaching. He knows how to defend.

Butler and especially, ESPECIALLY Higgins. Always kicking 3, 4, 5 goals between the two.

Still good experienced players who will do damage. Can see Sinclair unload in the midfield for them, with Mason Wood and even Crouch who's always dangerous.
