Financially this will be great for West Ham, but as a spectator I've never been a fan of the generic shallow bowl design, particularly those with running tracks - similar to having a football pitch set up in the middle of a cricket/footy oval as we often see here in Australia. There's too much distance between the fans and the action even in the 'pitch side' seats. Does anyone know if the club plans to excavate down so you have seats all the way to the pitch as City have done at the Etihad? Or would that make the stadium too big?
It has retractable seating, but I believe that's as close as it can get (similar to the stadium in Paris).

I believe the seats are closer than what you get at Wembley, and it some areas it's close than the Emirates though.

Having the roof enclosed all around the bowl is definitely going to help with the atmosphere / crowd noise also.

And you'll be building on the pitch with one arm tied behind your back for the next decade while you try to pay the debt incurred from the building you're doing off it (assuming you can actually fill it week in week out, maybe longer if you can't). Good luck with that!

Personally I'm thrilled with the decision to keep Anfield and retain the culture & tradition the club and its supporters have built over 124 years at the ground, while also significantly expanding & modernizing the parts of the stadium and surrounding areas which need it most, without having to mortgage our short term future and chances of on field success to pay for it.
So much fail. Sigh

That we'll struggle to fill a 25k stadium increase with over 50k on the waiting list for season tickets. 2nd Liverpool poster who has suggested we will struggle to do so.

Mortgaging short term future is also amusing. We've been 20th in the PL for 5yr net spend for a little while now to no averse effect. I think we'll be fine financially.

You are mistaken if you think the new stadium won't affect you financially in the short term. It affected Arsenal for 5 years plus and they were in a much better position than Spurs were financially when they built Emirates Stadium.

Not for want of trying. In fact the only reason you're building at White Hart Lane is because you got your pants pulled down by West Ham over the Olympic Stadium.
Nah that was always a ploy to get Haringey council a move on to approve the scheme. Scare tactics

Something we've been trying to mitigate/shorten/lessen now given we've hardly spent a cent in 5yrs.

How much have we spent so far this window despite CL money and TV money? Make no mistake we are saving now. We won't be struggling for a while, also remember that this new build has two revenue streams directly linked. Firstly a 10yr NFL deal and secondly stadium naming rights sponsors. Both will contribute to paying off what costs remain.

Arsenal had a consistent negative net spend and still felt the bite from buildng a new venue even with the naming rights deal. There is going to be short term pain on projects like this. Obviously long term you're better off with a venue that will last 100 years.

You do realise when Arsenal were paying off the Emirates there was only a fraction of money in the premier league that there is now. Even adjusted for inflation, with that money it's far easier to build a ground now than it was back in the mid-00's when Arsenal were building theirs.. Plus we already have a minus net spend over the last five years as Gero has pointed out already. Oh, let's not forget Uncle Joe, who has already said he'll pay off any surplus that is remaining. I think we are going to be fine

Did you scare them into not giving you a free stadium?
Listen, stop showing your jealousy, just because our new ground will shit all over even the mighty old Trafford. This is 21st century stadium, not the ****ing hodgepodge, cobbled together affairs that exist at OT and now Anfield

I think Gero is pointing to the fact that Spurs don't spend money anyway. They probably have sufficient cash reserves to get through it unscathed.
What was Arsenal's debt level pre stadium? I ask as I know we are also completely debt free.

Also as for your unpopular opinion I think it won't come to fruition, no way we sack Poch when stability will be key these next two years and he's shown at two clubs prior he can operate on a pittance. A new manager might struggle with that short term constraint.

jealousy? If we wanted a new stadium then we'd just build one. 76k or GTFO.

How dare you associate my club with hodgepodge.

are you sure the second part of your post is supposed to be aimed at me?

No idea on Arsenals debt but I can tell you that the interest rate on financing the Emirates would have been considerably higher.

With your tight Arse owners no chance.

In all seriousness you have a great ground (Anfield is special too) but this ground will trump them both. You may have 14k more, but then you have concrete bowls that still hold 90,000 or so which are complete shitholes. Plus we have a rock climbing club

Absolutely certain.

Pochettino will be sacked next year.....players will get burnt out....will finish outside the top 4

Is there a roof on the Olympic stadium?

West Ham really have done well acquiring that.
Was part of the reconstruction work they had to do to get it "football worthy".

The record-breaking new roof, the largest of its kind in the world, will cover every seat in the Stadium, and its special acoustic design will allow Hammers fans to create a cauldron of noise on matchdays;

It was levy's attempt to strong arm the local council. Which failed. Some reason the soft touch worked and they came around without us threatening to leave. Fans would have never let us move to east London. Levy wouldn't have got out of WHL alive
