Listening to the ABC today and Stan was very impressed with the Hawks!!!!

But one thing that struck me which I think is the most important thing that has made us go so well! Thats is that Stan believes that the hawks are playing for each other and giving each other so much positive feedback to each other during the game!

They have a chance but still need to work hard when playing top teams, interesting to see what you guys think about the mid year report.

Didn't hear it at all.

As evidenced by the players all flocking to young Ellis when he kicked his goal. Went back towards the backline after it and all the guys went up to him to congratulate him. I think it was his first goal, which explains a bit, but it was still great to see.

I think it was his third goal - if I recall correctly, he kicked the match-winner vs Geelong. ;)

Stan knows a lot about footy and hes right, we are impressive, but hes wrong about us strugleing with the top teams, were the top team now ans weve beaten them all. Were in top spot, look at the ladder Stan

Great win on Friday night but don't be deceived into believing that Carlton is a finals contender. They aren't 13th for nothing.

We struggled against the intense, man on man, finals-type football that Sydney served up last Saturday.

Fair enough what you write, Dixie. However we, struggled in only two games, thus far, Brisbane and Sydney (half a game only), IMO. The other loss games we had our chances to win.

And in saying that, We were only 12 points down against the Lions with 10 minutes to go and Sydney: we were beaten only by ? Shucks! A mental blockage. Someone fill in for me .

correction, we struggled against poor umpiring. had those frees been not payed/payed the other way (where there were a few) it would have been a much different story.

Yes, MM, part of our stuggle was against umps' decisons.

I have no doubt that the shellacking we just handed out was due to what we learnt against Sydney. We were far harder at the contest. Sydney beware.

Rubbish.

Boyle's 50 metre penalty against Barry was soft, but you simply can't put your hand on an opponent's leg once the play is whistled dead. Similarly, McGlynn should not have given the umpire the opportunity to give a 50 metre penalty by holding on to his opponent's jumper.

The reason why we lost against Sydney was that they went one-on-one, applied the intensity and shut down our run from players like Young and McGlynn who were anonymous after quarter time. Everitt and Jolly towelled up Campbell and Taylor in the ruck and after quarter time, Sydney played the game on their terms, not ours. We weren't good enough to wrest initiative back from them, particularly when Roughead missed a comparatively easy shot that would have put us in front.

Just remember one thing, BT hates Hawthorn. You only have to listen to him on the Sunday footy show, he is ALWAYS bagging us, whether we play great footy, or defensive style footy. We will NEVER please him, and personally I don't give a hoot what HE thinks!! He can go jump as far as I am concerned..I don't warrant his opinion one iota!!

Interestingly though, BT I think it was on MMM made a big deal about one of Ladson's goals when he received a handball from Croadie and celebrated in the crowd, rather than go back and acknowledge Croad's assist.

Bull$hit, I dunno about u guys, but that's certainly not what i saw!

And anyway, even if it did actually happen, so f***ing what?

i played golf with a non-hawthorn person yesterday , and he said to me how Hawthorn players always seem to play for each other.

i remember spending a fair amount of time at the club back in the 80's-90's and even back then they were a very close bunch of blokes.

as long as i remember Hawthorn players have always stood together , remember the win against WCE at the WACA when all the players walked off with their arms around each other in a line.
it was something that i've never seen before in afl and it was magnificent
