So some wide ranging thoughts and understandings on who actually funds junior development in the different states and Territories.

So where does the money come from?

It is not the role of clubs to fund junior development. Many clubs simply would not have the cash to run the club and also fund junior state development.

So how does it work?

In the NT AFLNT is the body responsible. They get funding from the AFL, sponsors and the NT Government.

We don't have a club but the Suns are aligned with the NT and come up and partake in xlinics when in town. As do other visiting AFL clubs.

The distinction that causes some confusion IMO is who funds junior develipment versus what organisation is subcontracted by the AFL to run the programs.

The AFL grants and funding is a complete disgrace if you look at it. Good link for this is here

Some quick finds are

  • Gold Coast receives 28 mill of grants and then 5 mill of other AFL funding which isnt defined in 2023. All up they receive 34 million from the AFL. Gold Coast made a 1.7 mill loss but increased cash in hand by 1.6 million dollars.
  • Brisbane receive 28 million of grants from the AFL. This is despite the fact they have 85 million dollars in assets which puts them at 4th in the AFL.
  • West Coast Eagles receive 14 mill in grants but 20% gets auto-assigned to the WAFL by the AFL to fund it. Eagles received 11.8 mill all up in 2023. Fremantle actually got less at 13.3 million. Eagles hold 110 mill in assets. Despite the 25 mill discrepancy in asset ownership Brisbane Lions till receive more then double the amount of AFL grants that Eagles do
  • North Melbourne hold 30 mill in assets. North received 19 mill in funding from the AFL. Brisbane Lions hold triple the assets and receive 9 mill more per year
  • All up in the last 6 years both Brisbane and Gold Coast have received 100mill + million dollars more in grants then Eagles. Gold Coast all up have got 138 million dollars extra in AFL grants. This is enough for Eagles to hand out free memberships to all of our members for the next 3 years

So question is. If AFL 100% funds the Gold Coast and Brisbane Lions academies, why do they not enter the AFL pool of talent known as the AFL draft? Where is this so called equality iin the competition when a club that is 25% less wealthy then a opponent gets 250% more funding then them?

Alot of questions should be asked about this if we are being fair dinkum. Given its hidden in the PDF and Jay Clark wont talk about it I think no one here will care about it...

You do understand what a non-current asset is don't you?

There isn’t equity…?

It’s part of the AFL’s strategy to give the northern clubs major leg ups as part of growing the sport in new markets?

I don’t think anybody is claiming all clubs are treated the same.

I think they do.

North cant get a priority pick without people jumping up and down like manicas, but Gold Coast can get 100+ mill without anyone caring

The contradiction is just absurd

For Brisbane need to get down to the nitty gritty but non-current asset will become current asset essentially. Its only non-current because of a handover period

QLD govt basically giving them a ton of free shit in the near future
Uh, what free shit?

Certain aspects of there new training ground will be owned by Brisbane Lions, with a handover from Ipswich council. A bit like Eagles that way where we own parts of MRP
And those training grounds will become what kind of asset?

Oh you think they have already accounted for the free shit QLD Govt is getting?

Thats coming up so isnt included in the current reports. I wasnt referring to the detailed aspect of that report. Im saying assets they dont account for now are coming up in the future

Its why they are heading towards 90 mill of assets as opposed to the lower they have now

I never made any comment on the "free shit."

You introduced them when I asked this
You do understand what a non-current asset is don't you?
Why did you respond with that?

I was trying to say it isnt relevant to the discussion sorry, not explaining why it is.

The current asset total is out of date from that report

In any case its not that relevant. Brisbane have the same govt donations Eagles got that way. The relevant thing is people with the similar asset totals get wildly different amounts of cash gifted to them .

It's very relevant to your argument that total assets is relevant to cash grants.

So I'll ask a third time.
You do understand what a non-current asset is don't you?

No its not. You are just moving goal posts.

None of this justifies 2.5x the payment amounts Brisbane get over WCE
I haven't shifted anything. I've asked the same question 4 times now and you've refused to answer it. :)

You do understand what a non-current asset is don't you?
Hint. Its not cash so quoting it when talking about cash is irrelevant.

I really don't care either way, but you sound like a smug campaigner. If you want to correct someone, come out with it and tell us why someone is wrong rather than asking the same thing over and over.

I don't want to do that.
