Roast Statement on Umpires

I will be appalled if he gets suspended for this. It is exactly the same, in recent weeks, as:

Hannebery on Hurley - thrown out
Cooney on Ablett - thrown out

And there was another that was also thrown out, just cant think who it was (they highlighted the above 2 & the one i cant think of on AFL360 either last week or the week before)

It just has to be thrown out!

That just sums up the brilliant umpiring effort yesterday. Even allowing for my bias that was one of the more pathetic efforts by the green maggots in the last couple of years IMO....

Absolutely. EVERY 50/50 went their way. Those "fine-liners", where the Geelong player had the ball for too long, slipped, and our player's arm JUST went above the shoulder as they fell to the ground - "Too high - Geelong free kick". It was nothing short of astonishing.

It didn't effect the result, but if the game is hard enough as it is, we don't need to be playing against 25 on the field, thanks.

Made me sick when Hawkins was paid 2 cheap free kicks in a row after he abused the crap out of the umpire just moments earlier. Compare that to Riewoldt where they paid a 50m penalty against him almost instantaneously on the wing for no reason & you just see plain & clearly why we were pissed off!

I still maintain that Delaney was our BOG for the game. He took the current favourite for the Coleman completely out of having a forward influence, in a game where Geelong had nearly 60 inside 50s, and the ball in their 50 more than 50% of the time. But for the last, say, 5-10 minutes, Delaney gave Hawkins a bath.

Delaney is hands down the best find of the year for us, and that is not a slight on Dunstan or the rest - they've been great, but Delaney has been amazing. Delaney is going to be our bedrock, our fortress, for years to come. Once our midfield etc step up, and the opposition forwards aren't having the ball regularly handed to them on a platter, NOBODY will score against Delaney. NOBODY.

The AFL seriously has to do something about complete fools who get there second and lead with their head. Its dangerous and stupid.

But instead they got it in their pea brains that penalising the player who is the victim of fools who head butt them in the torso is "protecting the head".

Simple - You lead with your head. You have played in a dangerous manner. Free kick against you and you are suspended.

The law has no issue with penalising fools who refuse to protect themselves by wearing a seat belt, why should the AFL have an issue with penalising fools who refuse to protect themselves by turning their body as they are meant to be trained to do as kids.

The same applies to the Duckwoods and their like as well.

Today's umpiring performance by Mr Foot was substandard at best and corrupt at worst

I think those of us who feel strongly enough should organise ourselves to try and have his performances reviewed with an eye to improving the standard of umpiring in general

Umpiring was baffling, but when you watch an entire match umpired as flat out poorly as this one it really puts you off the sport as a whole. A shocking display of incompetence, umpire #2 just isn't AFL standard, though he isn't alone.

There were a few suspect ones. Hickey had one or two against him in the ruck contests for jumping at the ball, the whole point of a ruck contest. I know it's unfathomable that someone out jumped Nic Nat for once, but really? Soft free kicks that happened more than once.

I hate to be the person to point the finger at the umpires and blame them for poor performances (be a sore looser), because we did play some poor footy, mainly from the point of our disposal efficiency. But god damn, I do not say this lightly, that is the worst display of umpiring I've seen in years bar Adelaide last year. Absolutely disgraceful from the umpires. I hope they get a serious talking to, and I hope that our club finally says something, it's ruining the game when BLATANT one-sided umpiring ruins the momentum of games. We had poor disposal efficiency and bad contesting of the ball, but better pressure and intensity than West Coast when we had momentum. I genuinely believe with FAIR umpiring, we would have been in the game due to momentum- it could have been anyones game. Every time they got momentum it was off the back of a bunch of shit free kicks and ignoring blatantly obvious frees to us.

That game really annoyed me. I have not turned the TV off early in over a decade, even when we're 80 points down. But I turned the TV off 4 minutes before the end of the game because I was just sick and tired of watching what could have been a great game ruined by the umpires. Seriously, this MUST change. We almost always get the short end of the stick, and if this game does not make our club speak up about it, nothing will, and that makes me sad that supporters won't be able to enjoy games because of bullshit like that.

Sorry for the rage- I'm probably over-reacting because it's in the moment so feel free to ignore me if you disagree with what I'm saying, but I rarely get annoyed and this hit that threshold. I am disgusted that umpires like that are allowed to adjudicate our games.

On the other hand, I was pleased with Shenton (best game of the year), Dunstan, McKenzie, Bruce, Armitage, Savage, Stevens, Roberton- absolute gun and Acres showed some good skills when he came on.

20 frees to 12; a large number of theirs at key times, in key places.

Smells, but realistically it's probably just incompetence.

I'm sick at home, so heard the audio on the telly.

It was more than that.

For example, Yeo late hit in Webb.

Reluctant to pay that free, seriously he was. Kept saying "was in the contest"

No fifty, kid is subbed.

Steven gives a little shove to Yeo and he almost reverses it, says as much.

The whole bunch must be on the take. I haven't looked at bigfooty today but SS is of the same opinion so it mustn't be the power of suggestion. They looked corrupt. Just awful, I think we should go back to one umpire, they just seem to add more and more for less quality. At least it couldn't be any worse.
