And have a conveyor line of first round picks from the talent you trade out to develop or use on academy kids who are groomed to replace the Top Liners who are kept.

GWS worked out how to turn their initial concessions into a draft pick perpetual motion machine.

That would be highly out of character and against Occams Razor. Everything says that Coniglio will not resign with GWS. No high profile free agent that “has not shopped himself around” like Dusty and Cloke... has stayed at their club post round 23.
Goniglio left GWS a long time ago.

The only question is whether he chooses to go with the Blues on huge money or the Hawks on huge (slightly less) money.

In a money contest Carlton wins. In a group of talented players, Carlton have more.

But the Hawks have 3 trumps: 1: Clarko is the best coach in the last 30 years if not ever. Everyone knows we stole that 2008 premiership due to great coaching. And how the hell did Hawthorn finish 9th this year ..., and beat another serious premiership contender? Clarko is a reason to come to the Hawks. If Cogs wants to play under a Coach that knows how to win, would he choose Teague or Clarko.

Reason number 2: Jaegar O’Mera had a horrible knee injury and was given rehab and time to get his knee right (as the Hawks did with Sean Burgoyne, Scully and Ryan Burton). Players see how well the Hawks players are given time and effort to help them extend their careers.

Reason number 3: Cogs and Jaegar want to play together (this is my guess) and playing with Tom is a massive bonus.

Just see these guys together. Best mates.

These guys want to play together.

Cogs made his decision a year ago.

I am not in the know .... but seriously, I don’t have to be. It is obvious.

Edit: I missed one point. The Hawks have played for 5 weeks with the enjoyment of playing footy in their game. The Hawks have the fun of playing footy at their club

2nd edit: huge money wrecks many players. The pressure to live up to the price tag is enormous. The depth players who don’t get their deserved wage will leave. Overpaying is a team’s death.

Yes, obvious

It helped that when we 1st went to the trade table the other 16 clubs offered only spuds and retirees for our top picks.

But you cant do what we did unless you build a culture in the club that makes players want to stay and be a part of it.

The Dingley Drawback Effect is gonna be a hindrance.

17 locations have their own benefits.

Dingley has nil.

I actually don't know where Dingley is.

Like I've heard of it and have a vague idea of what it is near, but old Google Mapsy would be required if I were to have to get out there.

It's not far from StKilda's Seaford Folly. Part landfill, part cultural wasteland. Good for property developers, not exactly a pull for AFL players with choices.

Hawthorn FC have a lot of positives, but The Dingley Drawback Effect is gonna be real.

Someone's gettin' rich outta the whole deal, the facilities will be great but........

Location location location.

Yep.

Kelly genuinely considered leaving but the culture kept him.

Well done by the Giants.

Even the initial Breakfast Point camp style living will be paying off now.

If you’re going to leave your original club that’s offering you a lifetime contract for $1 mil pa you want to go to a contender. It makes sense he’d bypass the 3 bottom 10 clubs chasing him, and see if he can jag a premiership while GWS still have so much quality on their list, and he knows his signing directly helps other quality players choose to sign.

Well played.

Nah, its the hypocrisy of your comment.

And what hypocrisy would that be

You can’t seriously think that Me wondering if Gil played a role in securing 7 years for Cogs is the same as Clarkson having a “whinge” to Gil about umpiring

A close look at where we sit with free kicks would say he has quite a few more coffees to buy
