Steven Salopek...Do you rate?

I'm a Carlton supporter...
and somehow since preseason 05 iv rated Steven Salopek highly
this year his in my top 20 players in AFL....
There are heaps of good players you would put ahead of him your judds, kerrs and cox... but from port he is there top 2 or 3 players.
I was ranked first in 2006 in Herald Sun supercoach and 3rd in Afl dreamteam and he was in both of my teams..
Last year his stats wern't too bad...considerin he played 67% of a game until round 15...
He is a dominate player in my opinion...and no one knows who he is...
watch him Friday night his number 3 and was draft pick number 6 in 02 and that was a bargain...
He was expected to go top 3 and was drafted from Stingrays...
His contract ends with port this year and i heard a rumour he wants to come back to melbourne...hopefully Carlton jump on board and get him...
What do you think of him?

Im a huge fan, but certainly wouldnt say top 20. Just uses the ball so well and had his best season last year. He is engaged and I believe his missus has moved over from Melbourne so hopefully he will stay put.

He can be good dreamteam value as he wins a lot of cheap, uncontested ball when in form. Is damn inconsistent though.

Doesn't like the hard stuff, doesn't make enough tackles. Nice skills. Good pick up if you want a polished version of Aaron Fiora.

He is pretty consistent with disposals..... 15 disposals in the wet aint to bad...he uses the ball..
may lack tackles but takes ALOT of marks for a midfielder...
His in my center line atm in supercoach which is
Judd, Kerr, Hasleby, C.Bruce, D.Rodan and Salopek
there are some pretty big names there and at 21 salopek still has 3 years before he reaches his peak... if port make finals in 3, 4 to 5 years time. salopek will be a well known name and have a brownlow. He plays alot like Ben Cousins except his off drugs..
He gets alot of contested ball btw. He just gets uncontested marks.

I don't think he gets very much cheap possession actually. He doesn't play loose half back at all (mostly because his pace would see him caught out in such a role), so mostly when he racks up stats they're not cheap, he's just had a good game.

Salopek is a very good player. Uses the ball extremely well.

He's staying with Port Adelaide. Victorians, you can keep you mits off

Exactly right. When he was constantly injured and ill, we coulda gave up and him and delisted him. But we saw how good this guy could be, and stuck with him. We should the faith in him. Hopefully he repays that faith by remaining with the Power.

I hate Port more than most and would love to see him leave.

But the fact is he aint going anywhere, he was on the verge of leaving 2 years ago and heading to Carlton but it never eventuated. Dont expect him to leave anytime soon.

Had him in my Dreamteam last season (and this season) from the get-go. Great value pick up.

Concerning his actual game, he certainly knows how to get it, has good skills, and can poach a goal. A top winger.

BTW going as far as to say he might win a brownlow is, well, going a bit far.

He's not the vote getting type of player. Especially when Port have S.Burgoyne, his brother, Pearce and Chad Cornes. All of which are players that stand out when they're up and running.

Far too many to steal votes off him.

S.Burgyone on the other hand should have atleast one come the end of his career.

Fact of the matter is a Melbourne-based club would probably have to offer a Griffen type to make it happen, and even then i'd be disapointed. I'm very happy with Salopek, he's coming along very nicely. Potential future captain of the PAFC

News is that carlton would offer Bret Thornton for him and a late draft pick...
but the big trade they reckon will be offered is Jordan Russel and a 2nd round selection pick and maybe a preseason draft pick....
wait until trade season.
