A great proportion of the clothes that aren't sold op-shops here get shipped off to places like West Africa so I've seen some real random AFL sightings when deep in Southern Nigeria where they barely no about the existence of Australia let alone the AFL. Saw an African bloke wearing a NM jumper once and another wearing a Bulldogs cap once, both oblivious to what they were.
Then another time in Benin I visiting my mates extremely poor family who lived in a concrete structure with no running water or electricity - they offered me their communal foot rag to wipe your bare feet before you enter - it was an Australia cricket top. I laughed a lot and they were worried when I explained why. It was actually about a week after the whole sandpaper thing so I was able assure them that it was about as much respect as the thing need be afforded and as much as the players themselves gave the shirt

I ran into a man in a very old Swans polo in the Stasi Museum in the former East Berlin last year. Running into a tourist in Europe wearing a AFL polo is not overly surprising but it specifically being in the Stasi museum was (given that it was nowhere near as busy as other Berlin tourist sites, while also appearing to have more local German-speaking visitors than other places I went).
We made polite conversation about the Swans' ongoing season, the 2022 Grand Final and we continued separately in the museum.
