Yes. It mitigates severity which is partly why Stengleins charge was downgraded.

I find it funny that there is a rule written in stone:

100% NO TRIPPING AUTOMATIC REPORT TRIPPING IS BAD MMKAY

And yet head high contact is open to interpretation!!! What offence, on average, would cause more injury?!

hotpie said:
Dustin Fletcher is a special case. The tribunal is a bit sick and tired of his "clumsiness".

So each case is not reviewed on its own merit?

We just look at what's happened in the past and pile more on top of a poor record. Is there a line in the sand between actual wrong-doings and the ones created by the original ones. Make sense?

The new 'system' can see 4 weeks turn into 1. Oh it's working indeed :)

Its working very well. One week was the right penalty. The system might be a bit clumsy but it gets there in the end. If you argue your case properly then the charge will be reviewed accordingly.

Perhaps, but Eckermann shouldn't be punished for being short. Players have to learn to avoid head high contact at all costs. There was no attempt to avoid contact, so suspension was warranted.

Agree mate, he's more unlucky then anything. Could have been a different scenario if Stenglein had been going to intentionally do it. At most it was reckless, but I don't think that demands a match suspension.

Problem is, players can be trained to avoid contact, but some want the frees and will duck into a bump if it was made legal. The new diving.

The reason I think it deserved suspension is because after watching several replays, it was clear he changed his mind from going for the ball, to bumping Eckermann. He was looking straight at him. I don't doubt the high contact was accidental, but it was made.

Let's see if they're consistant. I think it sends the wrong message, that you can go hard and high if you like.

Last year Taz was ripped once or twice, shall be interesting to see what happens this year.

So players are now going to think it's fine to bump other players in the head? Inconsistant, not good enough. If the impact wasn't severe, what is? It almost knocked Eckermann out and left him with lacerations on the side of his face.

Funny... everyone else here is capable on discussing this like adults. Why can't you do that?

I think I hear your mum yelling from down the hallway telling you that your
"computer time" is up.

Edit: If one of our players did that to one of your players, you would be screaming for 6 weeks.

That's where the leeway would have to come in. If you punish everyone who goes for a bump and accidentally makes high contact, then players will stop doing it, fearing suspension. Hence, the game becomes more and more soft.

There's gotta be a rule change that says that if high contact is accidentally made, then its an automatic fifty, or a fine or something. That means no one will intentionally go for high contact unless they have money to burn.

Dustin Fletcher was rubbed out of the finals in the Essendon v Fremantle 03 game for contact with a short short man in Dion Woods.

He hit Rodger Hayden in the head with a clumbsy arm.

Ari said:
I dont see any allowances in that one.... hell, Dion Woods didnt even know he had the free, the umpire had to call him back from 50 metres away. That said, the AFL saw 2 weeks fit.

Rodger knew we were playing the Bombres and thought that the umpire had made a mistake. The fact that the umpire was saying "woodsie it is your kick" helped reinforce that perception.

Mate, i wouldn't even bother discussing it sensibly with you because all you can say is:

"It was high" "Eckermann is an oompa loompa" "If it was a Port player he would get 57 weeks"

Have a non bias opinion then get back to me.

Fletcher must be taller then he looks, cause Woods is about 191cm.

Perhaps you should have an un-biased opinion also. Although I'm sure it sounds biased, I would feel the same way no matter the player.
Like I said, comments like "Eckermann is an oompa loompa" proves how childish you are, and that your comments really aren't worth reading.
I have explained why I think it deserved suspension, and although some people may not agree, I'm sure they will back me up in saying that I have at least put some reasoning forward other than "It was high" and such.

Bah - Adults, hardly. Plenty of posts on this site where you have written people off as trolls simply because they didn`t agree with your slanted view on things.

I`m betting a lot of the noise here at the moment is simply for that reason.

Would you like to show me where I have written people off as trolls because they have different opinions? If anything, I do the opposite. There have been numerous times when I have defended other people, saying that everyone can have their own opinion. That has absolutely no relevance to this anyway.

So another eagle gets off lightly. Are they the protected species for 05?
The penalty should have remained at 2 weeks.

Wouldn't really care if he was missing vs Essendon but Richmond should be a tougher game.2 games or 1 I wouldn't care,I just want him to play this week.
yes i havent seen the incident but cant comment there but i think its a tough lose for you guys and a bit of a boost for us but you know someone else is getting a go

i think that this shows the new system does work (as with anything new it just needs a few adjustments):

- Stinger IMO deserved between 0-1 match (only because he hit Eckermann high but he did not use his elbow and it was unintentional)

- Pickett went head-hunting and 6-8 weeks would have been a fair sentence

Doesnt make it a reportable offence though PAFC! Free kick and maybe a fitty if its late, but a hip and shoulder during play is acceptable, that's what makes footy a great game. Look at Byron Pickett, he delivers some of the best bumps going around, just happen to be off the ball most of time, or without his eye on the ball thats why he gets done. There is a proper way to do it and that's during play when the player is excepting contact. Surely Eckerman knew he was gonna get hit! It was high I accept that but, it wasnt malicious.
