Coach Stuart Dew - Where is the scrutiny?

Lyons was booted for being too old and the Suns didnt even need to trade him because head office had already agreed to hand over priority pickies.
Dunno why Dew gets the blame for that.

I reckon that's pretty close to Dew. He just got a good face for it, doesn't carry it in the jowls.

Dew repeatedly dropped him in 2018 despite being one of very few consistent performers in a basket case. From all reports they couldn't stand each other. Watch Dew's physical reaction when reporters ask him about Lyons, the cholesterol filled veins in his face and neck start pulsating as he gives some bs deflection answer about how they traded in Greenwood so everything is fine.

I think he's doing a reasonable job considering all of the hurdles that have been put in front of him before he got the job and since taking it. (cue jokes about him trying to jump the hurdles)

He has to build a list of players capable of winning as well as instill a culture & work ethic to achieve that goal, these things just don't happen overnight.

You expected them to be closer than what they were? After last week you would've expected a 12+ goal loss. They actually pushed Geelong hard for chunks of the game, just choked a lot of shots. That's not a coaching fault AFAIC.

I just don’t rate dew and he hasn’t done enough in his 4 years in charge especially with all the concessions received

He’s had enough time and now Should be replaced

Next week is it, needs to beat Hawthorn in Darwin and go into the bye 4-7. If the Suns lose that game, Dew comes under heat he wouldn't have experienced up to this point.

For me, his pass mark is around 8-10 wins to show progress from last season. Will get Rowell back after the bye to help Greenwood, Miller and Swallow in the guts, and Day not long after to enhance the team structure as well as being a competent 2nd ruckman.

While I love players like Burgess who battle hard, if we want to progress, we need to move past these type of players.

Bellamy gets into the gym at 5 am every morning, the players obviously think highly of him due to the way they play because at least he puts some effort into himself.

Do reckon dew would even get out of bed by 10 am?

A real non event as a coach, I hope he goes but I don’t who a good replacement would be at the moment.

But I don’t think him being fat is the reason he’s a poor coach

They certainly have a stench of failure about them at the moment. Horrifically unlucky, mind you, but a fit Rowell/Witts is likely only masking these issues at this point in time.

However, suns do routinely out tackle opponents, so it does seem like the effort is there (using a very crude metric) at least. Is this primarily a development (and drafting) issue?

But on a more serious note, something does stink. I guess they're still young but it does feel like there's a disconnect between talent and development. Don't think they can afford to sack another coach but they have to try and get a couple of stars (or Hodge-style on-field coaches) in. Just seem too content with underperforming.

At least unlike Carlton I don't think they've recruited like a side that was ready to explode. But Gold Coast fans should be expecting better.
