Yeah, all teams 2 points behind us, Cats, Swans, Saints, Magpies have winnable games.

Draw will do it :)
A draw should clinch a finals spot but I'm eyeing off a home final and hopefully a top 4 finish so let's go out and beat the Bombers for it!

IF WE WIN

We finish top 4 and play an away Qualifying Final (we get the double chance) if either of these two happen

Western Bulldogs to beat North Melbourne (providing North lose to Adelaide this afternoon)

Melbourne to beat Brisbane

If either of those don’t happen, we will host a home Elimination Final

We will need to two of these scenarios for us to make finals and play an Elimination Final (if they all happen, we host a home Elimination Final). Elimination Final is a knock out final

Hawthorn to beat Geelong

Carton to beat St Kilda

Richmond to beat Collingwood

Fremantle to beat Sydney

Funnily enough, Essendon are in the same position so both teams should be fired up for the Friday night clash in Mackay. Don't think anyone at the start of the season thought in their wildest dreams that our girls would be a genuine chance to finish inside the top 4 but here we are. It feels like the AFLW has been dominated by the likes of Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane for so long that a top 4 finish seemed almost impossible at this stage in our list development. We (or Essendon) would go into a qualifying final with virtually nothing to lose and everything to gain which could serve as a real disruptor to the powerhouses this season and a even catalyst for change over the next few years. But first, let's beat Essendon on Friday night and guarantee finals.

Double quote I know but I think this is worthy after North's loss to the Crows. So a win on Friday night will see our girls jump up to 3rd on the ladder and then we'll have to wait to see if North and/or Brisbane jump us. At best a win sees us finish 3rd and at worst a win sees us finish 5th.

And a loss could see us potentially not make the 8 at all. Pretty tight comp in the middle of the ladder.

Yeah pretty crazy that if we win we could make top 4 but a loss could mean we don’t qualify at all. Very tight competition but that is good for the game. If only we won against Carlton or that draw against Port, we could have ended up with two home finals!

To follow up on previous posts............the run home....

6. GOLD COAST SUNS (5-3-1, 115.6%)

Round 10 game:
Gold Coast Suns at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Friday 7:45pm

Win: Finish 3rd if North Melbourne and Brisbane lose, 4th if one wins, 5th if both win

Lose: Finish 6th if Geelong, Sydney, St Kilda and Collingwood all lose, 7th if one wins, 8th if two win, Miss Finals if three or four win

At least we don’t have to worry about percentage when analysing the Suns, because of their draw against Port Adelaide. A win on Friday night against the Bombers, combined with a loss for the Kangaroos against the Bulldogs (very unlikely) or for the Lions against the Demons (somewhat likely), would hand Gold Coast a shock top-four spot. But if they lose up in Mackay, they could miss the finals entirely, if at least three of the Cats, Swans, Saints and Magpies win across the weekend. They can literally finish anywhere between third and 10th... what an absurd finish to the season.

That hurts but at least now we'll know if our girls truly want to play finals. Obviously they will need to make adjustments but we'll still have some high quality players in there like Whitfort, Drennan and a returning Single. I'd be less confident if we were facing a team like Adelaide or Brisbane but I think we're still good enough to beat Essendon without Rowbottom if the girls show up like they did against GWS.

Speaking Whitfort, the upswing in her life since moving from Melbourne to the Gold Coast should be a lesson to all AFL/AFLW players about the potential benefits of moving here. Glowing endorsement and reminds me of what Casboult said when he moved here.

Funny how that article mentions Essendon making the finals in the second season as an achievement but our girls never really got any credit for making the finals in their first season. Maybe that will start to change tonight if our girls secure a second finals appearance in four years.

Let's go!

It was a different time back then. Less teams, less games. Lower quality.

Comp is moving into a decent state at the moment. Gap between the best and worst teams is still there, but the rest of the ladder is competitive enough. Scoring has improved across the board. Skills are better. Much better product.

Fair enough. The league has definitely improved since then.

Surely our girls deserve a fair bit of credit if they finish top 4 with a win tonight. That's a pretty significant jump.

Essendon looking a lot cleaner at the moment with outside run. We got a lucky 50m infringement to get that goal.

Did look a look cleaner once that happens and we started to move the ball with more purpose.

Our girls are looking really good with a 12 point lead going into the final quarter. Hold on here and very likely to finish the season inside the top 4. Regardless, a home final is guaranteed if our girls win this one. Come on!

We're in! Up to 3rd on the ladder and just need the Demons to beat Brisbane (likely) or the Bulldogs to North (unlikely) to win to secure the double chance.

They made the finals. Well done and to get it done without Charlie and Kalinda (as always) shows something.
Scotch worthy win and under my “mini GF” rules then any semi final of course is a Mini GF so I can post aplenty this week.
Go Suns!!!

Started slowly but well-deserved win. They should have won by more.

Single annihilated Prespakis in 2nd half. Got to love that. Whitfort and Drennan were great too.

Congrats girls.

Can we just take a minute to acknowledge that our girls went into a sudden death clash without their best player and dominated a top 5 team despite a massive umpiring call discrepancy? Bloody impressive performance. Whitfort, Drennan and Single were all awesome through the middle in Rowbottom's absence and Daisy D'Arcy was really good around the ground too. Shoutout to Darcie Davies who really stood up both in the ruck/around the ground and kicked straight in front of the big sticks. So awesome to see local girls like Single and Davies dominating on the national stage in an important game. Great result for the future of footy on the GC.
