BARRETT: Time to unleash the Suns' hard man - http://m.afl.com.au/news/2018-07-25/barrett-time-to-unleash-the-suns-hard-man

I think barrett has completely missed the point with his opinions here.

Going back to having a selection of draft picks isnt going to make the suns more viable again it just feeds this cycle of players leaving. Then suggestions to recruit these richmond offcuts is a bit ridiculous as if they can compare to the initial signings we had in 2010. Besides having watched 3/4 richmond games this year everytime i watch them i just think they are an arsey side. Minimal skill involved just blokes that constantly knock the ball forward with work rate and luck. For the sake of an early pick this year im not pushing out the only player at the club that fights and bleeds for us on a daily basis (May) even if he leaves next year we will still get a top 5 pick for him through compo.

But i agree that cochrane should be given a license to start making some changes under the supervision of evans of course.

I think Barrett is a gut maggot like his boss Hutchy - they use to shuffle through dumpsters for stories, now they think they are big shots they just make shit up.

The thing I agreed with to some extent is that if Lynch is leaving the next phone call that should be made is to Steven May and his manager, with the idea being to rip up his contract for next year and give him 50% of whatever Lynch was going to get next year on top of what he was getting for 2019, and make him the highest paid player in the AFL in 2019 if he signs a long-term contract.

What Barrett suggested in giving him an ultimatum is ****ing stupid and disrespectful and not how a good club does business. We want to show May that we are loyal to him and want to reward him handsomely for that loyalty when we need it most.

I wouldn't be too worried that May would 'Ablett' us with a front loaded contract as he is as honest as the day is long.

It would be a great morale booster that on the same day Lynch leaves that May signs up long-term to show what true leadership is.

VFL 360 Robbo had another crack at Lynch about speaking with rival clubs during mid season, Riewoldt and Bob Murphy chimed in as well saying it was disgusting. Riewoldt suggesting we have the same rules as American sports such as the NFL where players cannot speak with rival clubs during the season. And for those of you who requested Robbo do a massive spread on Lynch doing the dirty make sure you read the herald sun tomorrow as Robbo confirmed he will be doing a column on it tomorrow.

Agreed with what was said regarding a CAPTAIN of a club shopping around. Also how LYNCH cant possibly walk back into the club and have the respect of our young players especially after that galvanizing win. With that opinion i cant honestly see how lynch could stay now it just creates too much discourse and distrust with him and the playing group.

Benefit of all of this would be that Lynch see's it, realises he'd get crucified by Melbourne media all the time and decides to stay.

He shouldn’t return here again until he comes up here as the Golden Goose playing for whatever VFL bandwagon the bedwetter Durant tryhard jumps on.

I’m ready to launch on him if I see him at the game or around the traps with some sledges.

And Gerard's Wednesday love was Tony Cochrane for his quote in today's herald sun about free agency.

“Free agency is slowly and surely going to do for the AFL what Colonel Sanders did for the super funds of chickens. He chops their heads off,” Cochrane told the Herald Sun today

Both Gerard and Robbo said after they now rely like Cochrane and what he's doing for the Suns

Robbo has gone full force for us this week regarding Lynch and he is not letting up , I know a lot don’t like him on this forum but I have full respect for the bloke this week as no one in the Melb media backs us at all.

He’s taking the p*ss on all of us sunner
He may well be OR he may just be a misguided fool either way as long as a player/coach/staff/supporter is wearing the Gold Coast Uniform they still have my politeness not necessarily my respect.

There are only 4 people at the footy club ive met and have total respect for Cochrane, Dew, Evans and May. Obviously ive met others but these 4 stand out as having the morals, dignity and ambition to stand up for this club. Lynch did not show those signs when i met him 2 years ago nor did ablett.

My point being we dont know exactly what lynch is doing it doesnt look good from our point of view feel free to give him some words of advice about his behavior but he doesn't have the qualities of leadership others have and until he tells us he's out i'd be offering support so he can fix his mistakes and be a better person.
But as i said YOU DO YOU.

Here is Robbo's article.

As Gold Coast captain, how can Tom Lynch be holding meetings with Collingwood and Richmond?

having meetings with Collingwood and Richmond and presumably Hawthorn at some stage.

Imagine if Scott Pendlebury met Essendon last week. Or Joel Selwood met North Melbourne. Or Sydney’s Josh Kennedy with Melbourne. And then returned to their clubs and pushed core values and principles, which is what captains do and it’s why they are captains in the first place.

JON RALPH: WHY LYNCH CAN MEET WITH BUCKS

GILL’S CALL: DON’T BLAME LYNCH FOR MEETINGS

They are leaders. They set standards and demand respect. They look people in the eye.

But Lynch, a free agent at the end of the year, is shopping himself around.

The captain of one club is meeting coaches of another.

Free agency, in part, is encouraging Lynch to scamper around under the cloak of darkness and live a lie with his club and teammates.

How he looks Suns coach Stuart Dew in the eye after his meetings with opposition coaches is an interesting thought.

Nathan Buckley said this week he had met Lynch, but on Wednesday said he regretted his comments.

“I think out of all this, the biggest issue is the integrity of the young man himself. From my understanding, he has conducted himself with dignity and respect,’’ the Collingwood coach said on SEN Radio.

Wonder if Bucks would feel the same if Pendlebury was meeting with the Bombers and not telling the Pies?

Lynch is in a difficult position. He is failing his duty as captain and everything that captaincy stands for because there’s seemingly a gentlemen’s agreement over clubs talking to rival players.

Not everyone will agree with that comment, but clearly there is an agreement and the whole situation is mess.

COMPLETE THE SURVEY AND YOU COULD WIN GRAND FINAL TICKETS

Perhaps it’s best that Lynch tell the Suns his plans and end this charade, and then Lynch and the Suns deal with it.

It’s magnified when it’s the captain, but maybe it’s time all players announce their plans if they are leaving the following year.

You can understand their reluctance to do it.

Former coach Paul Roos is on record saying he wouldn’t play a player if he knew that player wouldn’t be at the club next year.

Carlton’s Lachie Henderson said three years ago he wanted a trade and the Blues didn’t play him in the final three games of the season.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan said at the time he didn’t like Henderson’s announcement before the end of the season — labelling it ‘’unnecessary’’ and ‘’undisciplined’’.

Why would a player come out when even the boss is so against it?

No one begrudges Lynch for wanting out, he has given eight years to the AFL’s baby, but this current climate of subterfuge cannot continue ... for any player.

Lynch is moving under the umbrella of free agency.

It has been suggested free agency is the new world order, but another suggestion is free agency could kill the competitive balance.

Is free agency working when/or if Lynch goes to best team in the competition, which is the Tigers?

Do we want the equivalent of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets with super teams via free agency? Or a situation similar to the English Premier League, where four clubs dominate?

The Total Player Payments does keep clubs in check and perhaps we need free agency rules to stop the best teams acquiring the best players, such as a bar on top-four or top-six teams participating.

The AFL also has its integrity challenges over the trialling of new rules.

McLachlan is considering asking clubs not vying for finals to put on an exhibition game.

“If you trialled something between the two clubs and they weren’t playing another team that’s competing for the eight, I don’t think there’s any way it could be a risk to the integrity of the competition.’’ McLachlan said.

Same season. Different rules. Guinea pig teams = no risk to integrity? This is kite-flying surely.

What happens if one team doesn’t take it as serious as the other? Are they tanking? Are they fined?

The AFL should pay teams to play carnival matches on the weekend between the Round 23 and the finals and leave the season proper alone.

Why? Because integrity of the game and of positions in the game can’t be sidelined in this new world order.

Wow, tuff times at the moment. Everyone is left standing red faced. The player has disgraced himself. The club has bent over and is getting ploughed into the dirt. The contracts between players and their club is all for the player, the players have the system bent over the barrel and the clubs are too busy fighting each other for scraps to realise they are all getting burnt. Either they need to band together or the AFL needs to step in. Either way, something has to give as it’s a shemozzle. The AFL has allowed a rod to be created and aimed for its own back.

Typical Hamilton trying to downplay our win over Sydney.

Then is he really accusing the Suns of leaking negative news about themselves to the media to try and strengthen their case for afl assistants (priority picks & extra salary cap)

He is a Sydney fan, hardly a surprise. But I was a bit shocked by that claim to be honest. I am hoping we do the double over the Lions this year and those blokes have to speak positively about us.

Hamilton is an A-grade ass clown
And since he's been called out by every Suns fan alive he's decided to double down
Eade had to be restrained on a couple of occasions with the fool and I suspect Dew despite his chill exterior finds the guy more than irritating

Yeah because nfl nba don’t talk, if you think you have no idea

Yes, the reason the AFL haven't come out and explicitly banned contracted players talking to other clubs in-season is that it is impossible to police. Player agents are slimy shitheels, the majority of players looking to leave are mercenaries, but above all, when a coach with the gravitas of somebody like Nathan Buckley calls to have a sitdown, even Steven May would do it. All said, I don't think Bucks and Lynch met recently, I think "a while back" indicates the off-season and the talks were definitely informal.
