The Melbourne media are frothing over cripps and curnow as if the Kardashians were in town i dont see the hype but they obviously have nothing better to do.

Sunner they kicked our butts. That Cripps tackle on Swallow was pivotal.
What id give to see our guys knock an opposition star player into next week.
That’s what I call culture. The infliction of pain.

'Unacceptable': Stuart Dew blasts Suns players' immaturity
29July,2018, 12:19 am GMT
Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew has warned that heads will roll after his side's AFL capitulation against Carlton.

Just seven days after a stirring upset of Sydney, the Suns were outworked by the last-placed Blues in a performance midfielder Touk Miller admitted was laced with complacent efforts.

Carlton dominated after a three-goal Suns burst to begin the Metricon Stadium clash as the AFL's rising star Patrick Cripps orchestrated the cellar dweller's second win of the season.

Dew would have hoped his young side had turned a corner after running down the Swans at the SCG but instead it was back to the drawing board in what's been a frustrating first season at the helm.

The result compounds the pressure on the Suns who are bracing for the exit of star forward Tom Lynch and the possibility of losing other established off-contract players next year, including marquee midfielder David Swallow and Lynch's co-captain Steven May.

"We're trying to bridge the gap from such a really good win last week and it probably sums up the maturity of the group or lack of, being able to deal with such a high and to come back down and reset," Dew said.

"On the back of tonight ... we'll have to make some unforced changes. I just talked to the players then and we can't accept the performance.

"We've got to keep challenging each other and not just put our head in the sand and say 'oh well, that was bad luck'."

Miller said Dew's post-game address produced some concerning feedback.

"(Dew asked for) Just a simple yes or no ... did you prepare and play to win?," Miller told the club's website.

"Interesting results as to what came out.

"You could see that we're not on the same page ... we didn't work hard enough and just rolled up."

While promising changes the coach said the club couldn't afford to be "too reactive" to the loss and that the final four weeks of the season would be telling.

"Win or lose, we're more about how we play," he said

"Consistency's been our battle ... last week we played three-and-a-half (good quarters), this week, 12 minutes.

"So it's disappointing, but a sign of where we're at."

See how the boys go with May in the coaches box. Should be an instructive day to see who wants to play and who is just marking time.

On The Couch: Paul Roos concerned that AFL player agents are telling players to not go to the Suns

The Suns are struggling with just four wins in 2018, with star forward Tom Lynch set to depart from the club in the off-season, while Steven May is no certainty to remain a Sun in 2019.

The 2005 premiership coach believes it is a concern that agents are advising players to not move to the Suns, potentially cruelling them for years to come.

“I was really concerned, I read Jay Clark and Jon Ralph’s (article), this has been scurried around, ‘leading player agents have told the Herald Sun that they would block any attempts to trade their players up north due to the club’s flailing on-field prospects’,” Roos said on Fox Footy’s On The Couch.

“That’s concerning guys. I reckon that’s got brushed over too easily, that’s player agents who are directing players where to go.

“So if you’re talking about resetting and I agree with you boys, but I don’t think you can go and get more young kids into that footy club, but if player agents are going to refuse to let their players go and play there, that’s an AFL issue.

“If I’m Gil, I’m straight on the phone to those leading player agents to say, hang on what about this — anti-tampering and what have you, that’s a concern and I’m not criticising the player agents or the players, but that’s damning for a footy club.

“That’s a damning statement.”

Garry Lyon also questioned what the mums and dads of prospective draftees would think of their sons being sent an “environment that AFL agents don’t want to send their players to.”

St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt suggests that it was the player agents job to ensure their players don’t end up at struggling football clubs.

“That’s the player agents responsibility,” Riewoldt said.

“They’ve got to give their players the responsibility and advice, and if they don’t think the players going up to the Gold Coast and playing in that environment is best for them, then they’ve got to give that advice.”

Riewoldt also believes it’s time for the Suns to hit the “reset button” and look to get the best return possible on Tom Lynch and potentially Steven May.

Since joining the AFL competition, the Suns’ strike-rate with delisted free agents and traded in players has been poor, with Jared Brennan (2011), Matthew Warnock (2012), Greg Broughton (2013), Mitch Hallahan (2015), Jarrad Grant (2016) and Daniel Currie (2016) no longer on the Suns’ books.

Brisbane Lions legend Jonathan Brown suggests they have the ability to “manufacture something” and get as many draft picks into the club as possible.

“Don’t you think that they can manufacture something?” Brown said.

“They get the four first round picks for Lynch and May, plus that priority pick so they’ve got five first round draft picks. Then use those five first round draft picks to get 21-25 year old players in, because they’ve got to use the salary cap and pay big money.

“I’m tipping that if the player gets offered $400,000 at their own club and gets $700,000 at the Gold Coast — you look at Lachie Weller — what about Jayden Short?

obviously no one ever gave that advice to Riewoldt then. Stayed at the worst club in AFL history for his entire career

Hang on he played in 3 Grand Finals and multiple Finals Campaigns at St kilda
Aye, but St.Kilda has still only won 1 premiership in 125 years. Clubs don't get remembered for making a grand final, they get remembered for winning them and history suggests that if you want success, you shouldn't play for St. Kilda.

The negativity levelled at us constantly is becoming too much to cop all the time. We've won twice the games of Carlton but every criticism of us is labelled as a potential doomsday.

Hate it and it's not true. Gil hasnt done **** all to back us up recently either. Weak campaigner.

???

Both top 10 in the league next season.

Would love the suns to have someone in the top 50.
Thats a bit of a stretch. At least a dozen players that are midfielders better then cripps and a dozen forwards better then curnow. Saying they are top 10 next year must mean half the players in the AFL will retire this year.

Pain never hurt any one except the player you want to hit...and we just don't have players with that sort of meanness (other than May) and maybe Brodie in a year or two.

Dusty. Danger, fyfe, treloar, pendles, beams, merret, mitchell, macrae, kelly, coniglio, ablett, selwood, sloane, zorko, sidey, parker, cotchin i could keep going id even say cripps isnt even the best player at carlton, think murphy is still better.

The Pretender (McLachlan) - I refuse to call him by his first name, is an absolute failure and too focused on the culturally acceptable things (AFLW etc) than the real state of the game.

Two simple things:
1: ALL teams play an equal number of games at MCG and force Collingwood, Richmond etc to play home games at Etihad.
2: Restrict FAs to only teams in bottom 10

and (sorry that's 3 things)

3: Make Collingwood / Richmond etc travel away as much as possible. Might hurts revenues but I thought it or was all about the sport and a national game. We'd be better off going back and supporting our local suburban team where loyalty and equality still count for something.

Wow. You really dont rate him.

I’d say currently: Fyfe, danger, Mitchell, kelly are comfortably better

Dusty and Ablett can be but not always.

I would say Cripps is significantly better than Parker, Murphy, Cotchin, Sloane

The rest are around the mark.

Agree that Cripps is coming into his own. Merrett, Treloar, Coniglio, Sidebottom, Parker, Zorko not in his class.
Selwood, Ablett, Cotchin, Pendles approaching the twilight.

Haha....

Some of the thinking on this board is as bad as the on field struggles.
