Someone on our board suggested that Watters wants to go down the Buttifant route i.e. using high altitude training and that Burge wasn't that keen on going that way as none of his programs have incorporated that.

Even under Misson they made use of the high altitude chamber ( a site hut with the windows silasticed up?) . If Burge was ignoring that facility he had his head in the sand.
The overseas training is a hard one, when you start telling the players to pay their own way its a bit moot to be talking about what we are offering them for Salary. They are still going to walk away from Collingwood with more cash.

A spot to attend the camp as an observer was auctioned at the B&F for $20k (against a "valuation" of $25k). Not sure how many were sold, but the intent is certainly to assist with funding the overall costs (as well as providing a pretty different experience).

At the B&F it was mentioned that it was the last spot. Now i don't know if the saints were just making that up, but it sounded good that it was the last spot

If I recall correctly, the doggies stood around like witches hats in the second half of most of their matches this year.

Is that that the fitness guys fault? Or the coaches? Or that they are simply witches hats players?

Supporters really know nothing about what these guys are doing in club. Results weren't there for us but if its any consolation Rocket Eade rated him the best he's ever worked with

I haven't seen a thread about which Assistant Coaches we sign and also of those who leave us through the Off Season. So far it is believed we are set to sign Tony Micale to a 2 year deal.

(If there is a thread for this sort of stuff then Please delete this post, Mods).

I heard a rumour that we are waiting for some-one at the AIS-AFL's contract to run out so we could sign him as the Saints Academy Director? Forgot where I heard it, it was a long time ago.

St Kilda has appointed Tony Micale as head of player development academy.

ST KILDA will bolster coaching depth and add vital experience with recruitment of West Coast Eagles premiership defensive coach Tony Micale.
Micale, who was Eagles backline boss under head coach John Worsfold when West Coast won the flag over Sydney in 2006, will be a senior assistant to Saints coach Scott Watters.
Micale, 63, will specialise in skill and tactical development aspects for Saints players in an expanded coaching department under Watters.
He will head up a Saints development academy as well as have match-day duties in support to Watters.
Watters has been on the lookout to broaden his coaching and player development processes since taking St Kidla's senior appointment a year ago.
Micale joins former North Melbourne premiership player and coach Dean Laidley in the Saints coaching team.
Laidley handles the Saints midfield and important stoppages strategies, while Micale will bolster defensive nous with backline coach Danny Sexton and Adam Kingsley has handled St Kilda’s forward division.
Micale was the AFL assistant-coach-of-the-year at West Coast in 2007 and has a distinguished record in the WAFL with a hat-trick of premierships at East Perth in 2000-02, as well as with East Fremantle in 1998.
He is understood to have considered a switch back into the AFL and a move into Melbourne with Watters for several weeks.
In the opening week of August as his WAFL club East Perth had a bye, the veteran coach spent a week at St Kilda with Watters when a move into his development position appears to have been triggered.
Micale is considered an outstanding exponent in advancing all-round talents of young players to achieving optimum performance levels with their abilities.
He is also regarded by Watters as an astute tactical analyst in modern playing, development and training trend

Interesting choice, never played (then) VFL but spent over 10 years player WAFL. Little curious as to the reason why Wet Toast let him go a year after he was named "AFL Assistant Coach of the Year" in 2007.

Best of luck to him.

I think left due to some family issues and was out of footy for a year or two. Has been coaching east Perth the last couple of years.

St Kilda Football Club has today announced the appointment of Tony Micale as an Assistant Coach to the Saints' coaching panel in 2013.

Micale will join the Saints from Western Australia in a dual role as an Assistant to Dean Laidley as Midfield Coach, together with being appointed as the new Saints Player Academy Manager.

St Kilda Football Club Senior Coach Scott Watters said, “This is a key appointment for the Saints. Adding someone with Tony’s knowledge and experience to the coaching panel next season provides great balance to our assistant coaching team.”

Micale said he was excited to be returning to the AFL. He was a premiership assistant at West Coast in 2006 and was named AFL assistant coach of the year the following year.
"Importantly I have struck up a great relationship and a friendship with Scott Watters and I gave Scotty my word when he was going in for the St Kilda job a year ago that I would assist him," he said.
Micale had to review his plans after a year marred by family tragedy, including the sudden death of his son Josh.
Micale said he expected his role would involve both AFL assistant and development components.
"It encompasses being heavily involved in the AFL program," he said.
"I will be an assistant coach. At the moment it is not designated in a specific area. That is to come."
Watters said Micale's "key appointment".
“Adding someone with Tony’s knowledge and experience to the coaching panel next season provides great balance to our assistant coaching team," he said.

unforunately his son died so he stepped down
He left West Coast at the end of 2008, he lost his son and mother last year. Had originally promised Watters that he would be his assistant whenever he got a head coaching role but wasn't quite ready to leave Perth last year. Left West Coast because he was never really a yes man to Worsfold so didn't fit in.

Very good get. Old school style coach that may upset a few but he will not only help the players but also make Watters a better coach. During an East Perth bye this year Watters flew him to Melbourne to spend the game in the coaches box so the move has been on the cards for awhile.

Will probably try to convince you guys to pick up a couple of players from East Perth, more than likely in the rookie draft. Would nearly put money on him bringing a hard at it midfielder/tagger over (Nick Kommer).

Thanks for that, very informative.

Kommer, can he kick (and is he a lefty)? Pretty high on Pelchen's list of priorities for any recruit

Pretty good kick. Can tackle and hit hard, think he scored 4 or 5 AFL listed players this year including a Koby Stevens KO in the first minute of a game.

Twelve months ago I would have thought he was no chance but he has really come along this year. One of Micales projects that turns into his favourite go to players either on ball, defence or up forward.
