Buckley's constant raving about McCaffer is making me very nervous. He is in the leadership team as well. This can only mean he is considered a cert to be in our best 22. How can this be? What role do they seem him playing? I have heard references to him playing forward-at whose expense. He is not an electrifier. He is not a reliable goal kicker, his kicking is average to poor. He plays best as a shut down tagger but Crisp and Greenwood can do this and still win plenty of the ball themselves. What are they thinkng?

By the way-is it a golden rule that we must be missing one of our top six players at the commencement of every new season due to some ongoing ailment? FFS-no Elliot for who knows how long! It begins again!!

Does this really deserve a new thread? Gone over this since he got elevated into the leadership group. And it deserves some credit after his injury run to be back.
With Elliott and Howe out, there is even a spot for him without having to drop a best 22. .Let's just wait how he plays.

i don't think he's in our best 22 but, given his injury history, I respect the club for giving him the opportunity to prove that wrong. The cheap way out would have been to delist at the end of last season. At worst he is capable depth.

Speak for yourself. I played 1 afl game, got knocked out and ate a sandwich. Best day of my life!
What was in the sandwich?

Howe and Elliott out for round one. He's all of a sudden got a chance.

One thing i worry about Buckley is how he judges players. Guys like Caff, Sinclair he seems to really like which i worry about.
Malthouse did the same thing. Chad Morrison, Andrew Williams, even Shane O'Bree at one stage when he was having a stinker every week were some of Mick's favourites that found it hard to be dropped. All coaches probably their faves.
Can't see the problem with Caff though, he was very effective in 2010 and I don't see what's so bad about his kicking. The only thing I'm concerned with is that he's now had 2 knee recos so his best footy may be beyond him.

Im more concerned with Caff on the leadership group. Sure he might be good but i dont like having guys on the borderline in our leadership group. You dont see anyone on geelongs leadership group who has any danger of being dropped

We're not Geelong, I don't give a crap what they do. It could be just as useful having a "leader" in the magoos playing with the kids as having him as a fringe firsts player. I don't think it really matters too much if your 5th deputy is playing seniors every week. All of our experienced players need to be leaders, not just the 5 official ones.
