100% Kingy. Spot on.
I think Bud has something to offer. Just not what he used to offer. He needs to accept he can kick one or two goals each week holding his ground when one on one without the silly frees out of frustration & the odd lead out & mark for goal. That's gold but I fear it's stretch now.
Mids need to pull their weight as well. They were horrid in the GF.
I just want him to kick just SEVEN MORE GOALS to secure fourth spot on the All-time Goalkickers table and he can retire.

He's never going to make third, and I doubt anyone's going to reach him for many decades, if ever. Fourth will be his.

Stephens was average again this week

Might need a run in the 2s

we are probably juggling too many injuries to do that ?

Stephens got stuck deep a lot yesterday i feel he needs time

one more magical buddy game

Seems to be two very different trains of thought on here re Ladhams - I'm in the pro camp.
I think he has all the hallmarks of becoming a very, very good ruck. Yes he has his brain farts, yes he does some inexplicably odd things but I think he's progressing well and is taking baby steps.
He's getting his temper under control and also starting to properly control his aggression, just needs to stop second guessing and play on instinct.

Very much agree on your last point there. Last week, he absolutely nailed Butters with a great tackle and then didn't get involved in any of the carry on after it, instigated by the Port players.

Kinda felt like two teams who came to Adelaide Oval wanting to get their seasons back on track, but who went about it in very different ways. Richmond seemed keen to fire themselves up, to get in our faces and be niggly and carry on and play flashy, almost showboating footy. Our focus seemed to be on just doing whatever was necessary to win every contest that we could. I think that ultimately ended up being the difference. System won over talent (not saying we weren't talented, but it goes without saying that a substantial chunk of our talent was on the sidelines.)

McLean was a massive disappointment for me. Just doesn't look good atm. Even in the one area where he's previously had more to offer than the other two young forwards - his accuracy in front of goals - he failed to deliver last night. He'll keep his place, only because of Amartey's really unfortunate injury, but by golly does he need to lift.

That said, we score 100+ yet again with McLean & McDonald in the same forward line. It's not those two themselves. It's what they do for everyone around them. They just keep balls alive. They're not plucking marks themselves really, or getting a heap of it, but they're not getting marks against them. It feels like every ball that comes to them stays alive and the forwards around them can feed off them.

Blakey was unbelievable. I've always been a massive fan and a believer in his elite potential, but if I had one question mark over him, it was that I hadn't really seen much of him standing up and starring in big games when our backs were against the wall. Well boy oh boy he did that last night in spades. Human brick wall stuff from a guy built more like a picket fence.

I mentioned earlier this week that we seemed to have gone into our shells a bit, particularly our young talent. This week seemed to be back to the vibe that got us back into contention. Young players running around playing on instinct. Campbell and Blakey calling for handballs so they can have shots from outside 50. Warner tearing through the arc. McInerney flying for marks he was never going to take.

Papley... there's not much else to say really. Sometimes individual brilliance speaks for itself. We can add this one to the canon of classic individual heroics that is the stuff of Swans folklore.

Ladhams continues to both floor and frustrate. If he was to follow in the footsteps of Leo Barry, Rhyce Shaw etc. as Swans fan favourites who floored us as much as they frustrated us, then we could be doing a lot worse.

Jake Lloyd is just an awesome, awesome footballer. I've watched Freo this year, thinking "gee they look stuffed without their player (Mundy) who can get the ball to the right target 25 times a match." Lloyd is that player for us. Forget the one shank kick he does every game. Forget the one time he shits himself under pressure and coughs up an easy ball. Forget the one time he's easily outbodied in a 1v1 contest. Think about the amount of times he gets it to a Swans player's chest when we need him to.

Regarding Parker's quiet game, it looked pretty clear to me that he was playing a selfless role, blocking and putting body on the Richmond mids to clear space for the likes of Warner and Papley. Regarding him generally just doing questionable things with the footy, well all I can say is what have you all been watching for the last 6-7 years?

And finally, I think Swans fans can be a funny bunch at times. Everyone complains about our bombing inside 50, and it's frequently said we need to get the ball into the hands of the likes of Gulden & Warner when delivering inside 50. I'm waiting for the day when everyone realises they're the main culprits of our long bombs into the forward line. They hit a lead-up target a few times in a match and it seems to distract from the fact that they're the two who kick it in there more than anyone else, and the two who bomb it more than anyone else. Last night I swear it was all they did going inside 50. Are we complaining about it today? No. Because the forward line worked and we scored from all of those long bombs. So I'm not criticising them at all, but praising them. I have been consistent that long bombing works with a functioning and performing forward line. Get it in there, let the forwards go to work.

Also congrats to Warner Jr. & Gould on debut. They each had a few nice moments (Warner's goal and Gould's big bump two standouts for me), and good to get some senior exposure into them, though I'm not expecting them to keep their spots in the team unless the injury situation doesn't improve at all. I also thought Roberts looked solid.

Sorry for the rant. A great night and a great win.

chad warner replaced bombs over a forwards head with bombs for goal

We need to pick the games where the matchup is right. All he is doing when he plays is making his opponent find super form like Aliir.
Aliir is hopeless one on one against top forwards.

Geez louise our VFL team... what a miserable score lol.

Nah we are decimated with injuries, if it was a usual week there might have been a few changes after the Port game.

Now the test will be against the Cats next week.

What a night last night. Didn't expect that to go the way it did after 3QT. Enjoyed a sleep in and put the Do Not Disturb sign up on the hotel room door as I watched the replay (nothing untoward but let's be honest, that last quarter could easily be mistaken for something resembling sexy time).

Papley was sensational, the only thing more lively than him in the second half was his mouth. The yapping did not stop and Richmond players were absolutely steaming, yet there was nothing they could do about it.

Mills and Blakey marshalled the backline well. I feel like the last quarter saw a shift from a zone defence from their kick outs and it paid dividends with the boys cutting it off across the midfield at will as opposed to being picked apart and run through like was happening in the second and third quarters.

Heeney stepped up when it mattered. Couple of vital contests won and marks taken. His foot/ankle is not right and it is evident in the way he is kicking.

Gould looked shaky at first but settled in well after the first 10-15 minutes.

Ollie continues to impress and does exactly what is asked. The Chad doing The Chad things although his radar was a bit off again tonight and Campbell coming along nicely. Logan is sensational low down for a big man. Corey did some good things physically early but i think ran out of some puff later in the game.

Richmond came out with the intention to physically intimidate. 1. They were largely allowed to get away with it. 2. It took their attention away from actually competing at times to their detriment. Sucked in muppets.

The umpire that refused to pay the free to Lloyd despite having a clear view should be dropped. I would suggest the firing squad but feeling generous today.

That's it for me, time to get up and go get some lunch while walking around in my swans gear with a massive shit-eating grin on my face.

Up the Bloods!

Negatives
McLean is the softest big man I’ve seen for a while. How does he not keep his feet
McLean was getting pushed in the back, under the ball all bloody night and not one free. It stopped me from watching half the second and all the third quarters I was that pissed off. I think he was getting pretty shitty about it but held his cool.

ha, yeah ... i posted late in game day thread, ladhams is like watching nuke laloosh (tim robbins) in bull durham
i really like him, i like his effort ... and maybe i imagined it but after he got pinged for that dumb double hand thing, cost us a goal, he seemed to lift again like he wanted to repay the team for that goal
he seemed to be everywhere after that and despite being worn down at that stage of the game, he was getting into good positions on the field and getting involved
i thought he showed last night a great attitude to the team, and to working for the team ... which have been parts of his game that have drawn criticism
he'll just keep getting better ... like several of his teammates

Ladhams just has this sense that if things click, he could explode... he's just a bit off. His second half was much better. Just fumbles, some poor decisions, really frustrating.

He's still ok, but it's so frustrating how close, yet at the same time so far, he is from dominating.
I'm gonna back him in to do it.

Callum Mills and also Jake Lloyd i though provided great leadership down back last night.

Mills especially stepped back and took rampes director leader role
his ability to hit a target with accuracy especially to set up and switch play was exceptional.

I thought when Richmond were pressing he was crucial
We really need to clone Mills. He would make an awesome forward.

I think they are both fine as players. Good, not great.

The point they are at though, with all their champions either going or gone, you need to be holding all your early picks, unless you are getting absolute stars back.

It would be like us trading those 2 picks we used for Florent and Hayward at the end of 2016 for Chad Wingaard. Makes you feel good at the time but is ultimately pointless.

They have basically done that ... twice ... and added in the massive contracts as well.

oh geez, don't do that ... that just made me shudder

he is growing on me i have to admit

Haha..,I really did laugh when the dummy thought he was playing basketball, caught the footy at a throw in and chucked/passed it off. Cost us a goal iirc but the laugh was worth it. Could see a number of players from both teams were on the verge of laughing.

One of the great things about footy is all types play it, the long and the short and the tall. The little blokes always knew they were the smartest on the field and ruckmen were always dills.
