It was never in doubt. I know everyone here was getting hysterical in the 3rd, but it never felt as precarious as last week. We always had just enough to keep them at arm's length. Even when they were piling on goals and cutting through us at will, we'd pop up with an unlikely goal to keep it manageable. Their defending was very shaky throughouYt the game. We were always gonna pull away in the 4th, which was clearly the scoring end.

Ladhams was much much better than given credit for. He pretty much dominated the ruck all game. A few mistakes aside, he was terrific. And Heeney was perfectly fine. The amount of invective towards him here is really untoward. People who want him replaced don't know what they're talking about. Also Hayward. He took some great marks just when we needed it.

I was not impressed with Gulden. He was just OK. His kicking and decision making seem to have noticeably regressed since he burst onto the scene. McDonald was pretty good early, but completely disappeared in the third quarter, which he does all too regularly.

Still, a great win. I'm surprised at how bad Richmond are.

Does anyone know where I can find our average age for this round?

Aware that we were the youngest team of the round, but curious to the actual number.

Roberts is a tough kid. You can see it every time there is a loose ball or one on one. Very determined and hungry. Will be a regular before the end of next year.
Was a steady game from Roberts, cracked in and just needs to work his way into the game more.

Cunningham selfless, stayed on Rioli most of the night and kept him reasonably quiet.

Parker was poor tonight King.
Buddy v Essendon last year when he gave away 5 frees was my starting point of when I said he was slowing & being undisciplined as a reaction. The Bombers came back & fixed us up that day. I was most annoyed with Buddy & now watch him differently & expect more from him as a team leader.
I find he is more concerned about his own game.

No problem him coming back but he must not give away frees & he must lead by example & chase, tackle correctly for 4 quarters or it's passed him by.
Same goes for any player. Heeney was the same for me if you read my posts last week. I was calling for him to be dropped to regain form. It wasnt until after half time that Heens found form by having a huge crack & his physical assets came to the fore. Well done Heens.

Now for Buddy! I am not confident that his body can do what his brain is asking him to do & hence the frustration in giving away frees.

Now if everyone thinks Buddy should just stay in the team because of who he is & what he has achieved, then I can't argue with that.
That's a different argument that I have no right to get into with you.

If the discussion as I understand it, is about what is best for our team going forward & one step closer to winning a flag, then I'm sorry Kingy, the evidence is right there in front of us all from rounds 2, 3, 4 & 5. We are one of the top converting teams from our forward 50 entries. Rounds 3 & 4 were the exception.
I have been trying to put it into words and I think you summed it up quite well. Compare Buddy and Rampe over their careers.

You can see the way that Rampe plays that he is focused just on much, if not more, on helping his team mates play their role as he is on his own role. You put Rampe on the field and at the least every other defender’s performance increase by a material margin, if not every player on the park. Rampe is our heart and soul player, no questions asked.

I feel that Buddy does absolutely everything he can to optimise his role in the team. He chases hard (when his body let him), makes tackles, passes off to team mates and runs hard and demands the ball. For a full forward of his talent, this is remarkable. What I don’t think Biddy has done so well, is to think about others’ roles, his impact on those and how he can optimise whole of team performance. He demands the ball when he shouldn’t and doesn’t help create space for others as much as he should.

(Hence why Clarkson very intelligently put him on a wing, where by Buddy focusing on optimising his role is more likely to optimise whole of team performance by default).

Buddy’s tunnel vision on his own role is why the performance of other forwards drop when Buddy is on the park, and I am not only talking this year. I am talking Reid and Tippet when they were supposed to be at their prime.

Buddy is the best individual player I have seen play. If you needed a player to make something from nothing, it is Buddy. But he crowds out his teammates, both in terms of physical and mental space - and at the same times enables them to be lazy (because you can just give it to Buddy to make something out of nothing).

Post his playing career, I think Buddy would make a great talent scout. I’m less sure about coaching. He has a bit of Stevie J to him. Talent can spot talent but it can’t pass its talent onto others, and it struggles to understand people with less talent.

Just my two cents…

Special mention deserves to go to Robbie Fox. He's not a flashy player and things don't always fall his way but his composure and decision making was badly needed down back last night. Would love to see him cement a spot.

He was best 22 last year after injuries, BOG for us in the GF. He's already cemented.

Love the 🦊 have been a long time fan. He's just super composed down back and he's a smart footballer.

We've had 10 different players receive coaches votes already this year and it's only been four rounds. Papley, Blakey and possibly Heeney & Lloyd all getting their first votes for the season after last night could take it up to 14.

We have the right team full of good players, they just have to bring it together more.

Ladhams just has this sense that if things click, he could explode... he's just a bit off. His second half was much better. Just fumbles, some poor decisions, really frustrating.

He's still ok, but it's so frustrating how close, yet at the same time so far, he is from dominating.

I have a primary school education, can tie my own shoelaces and can count to twenty with my socks on. Be happy to participate in a Ladhams brain upgrade transplant if it means that he can go one game without committing the obligatory brainfart.

Love the blokes effort but he is as thick as two kiln-dried planks.

McInerney can join him if that’s the case. They played identical games.
Agreed. He had some moments late but was putrid for most of it. Was gifted games last year and will be pitiful if that happens again this year. On another note if Will Hayward didn’t disappear for long periods and stayed involved would go close to being the best mid size marking fwd in the game. As strong in a one on one overhead as a player of his size I have ever seen. Another though who could run out of credits if not more consistent.
