He’s been carrying an injury. Even in the vision during the week when he was at Auskick, he was wearing a compression sock on one leg. He looked like he had more freedom today for sure. I’m backing him to explode after the bye.
Definitely building. Had some quality possessions today. Not quite there but he’ll capture it soon.

2 rucks wore down jackson. Ladhams dominated him in the 4th quarter imo. Especially that run through our defensive 50. Glad it's had a positive start. Ladhams had a very good game. He plays like an extra mid, just needs consistent performances.
Yeah it was easily the best I've seen him play in the 1sts.
He just needs a bit more confidence.
His brain looks scrambled at times.

Campbell was solid just want to see those 6-7 more touches a game but some of his work in tight was nice
His defence is great, his tackling technique is perfect. He pins the attackers arm, unlike a fair few of our other players who tackle at the waist allowing for an easy handball.

He's putting himself in position to get more touches. Needs to keep it up & he'll get those extra touches.

He had so many moments that could have made it a huge game for him that didn't pay off. Handball intercepted, dropped mark, missed goal. He is so close to being fully unleashed, imo

Positives:
1. Ladhams - was a real positive for us. I thought the duo of rucks worked OK, but Pete just seems to give us more around the ground and can rest up forward. Was encouraging
2. Hamling. I watched him closely. No nonsense defender. Elite at reading the flight of the ball and getting to the contest and making an impact. Looks super solid and stiffens our backline up. Our backline looks sharper with him playing. Melican and Cunningham to come back - nice!!!
3. Campbell. Was solid and looks stronger and fitter this year. Looks confident. Is very important cog for us now
4. Jordan - our best for 3 weeks in a row. Just gets the job done.
5. Bice - will only get better - belongs at the level. Malceski mk11
6. Papley looked more lively today and his pressure was up
7. Wicks - his pace is unbelievable. Just gives his all

I think there are two opportunities to improve our structure as injured players return.

When Logan comes back, we should play him forward, and then get Ladhams and McLean to share the ruck. Grundy comes out. Amartey plays deep, Logan is high half forward.

When Melican is back, both McCartin and Hamling stay in defence with three strong accountable defenders. Either Rampe comes out if he hasn’t found form (I feel dirty writing that) or if Rampe has found form, then try Blakey up the ground.

Blakey might become the swingman Cox has been after. I’d almost make him a utility who plays wherever we need dash. Don’t make him accountable, let the lizard run free.

We won but Jesus it was hard to watch. I hate Freo games. They are low scoring battles. Great that Joel was the one to win the game. Great goal by Riley Bice.

This is not a game we want to remember, except for the fact we won

Great win

Honestly outplayed them through the midfield and in defence, we just blew too many chances.

They were desperate and had close to their best team on paper, a team we have struggled with at times.

Proud of the team after that one and really think it will get a bit of a monkey off our backs.

Some small notes

  • Our defence was fine, they scored 65 points in warm conditions on their home ground, honestly was a great defensive effort.
  • Really liked Ladhams game today, he brings a bit of Chaos around the ball and resting Grundy worked.
  • I honestly wanted to drop McLean throughout the first part of the game, I take that back. Well played and great pressure.
  • Bice Bice Bice Bice Bice
  • Warner is incredible, we all know it, but he really lifted and stood up like a leader today
  • Liked the game of Campbell again today
  • Need to be more confident and clinical around goals, but should come with time.
  • Jordan was BOG for me
  • Think Mills is going to be the final part of our midfield

Good win first up, this team should be able to him in the second part of the year, especially once we add in Mills, McDonald (critically underrated), Melican, Gulden, McInerney, Cunningham and Fox

Ladhams was definitely good in his role especially at ground level but I feel like people are being way too harsh on Grundy, if you look at the ruck contests Ladhams only won 7/30 hitouts he attended, we will get killed over a fuil game losing the hitouts at that rate, would like to see us continue with both in the team but Grundy needs to be the #1 still.

Just got home from the game.

Jeez it was hot - the bye will be very welcome after that!

I’m just amazed that both teams ran out the game as strongly as they did in the heat.

The pressure was high for the entire game - which I think is credit to both sides. It made it scrappy, but it was two desperate teams giving it everything in tough conditions.

We can analyze individual players til the cows come home - but everyone played a part in today’s win, which was incredibly gutsy. The gut running, courage and pure effort was fantastic.

You could just tell - the boys really really wanted it today.

By the way Ladhams was sensational. Bice was extraordinary. I liked Gus when he came on but he needs to improve his kicking.

Gus was shithouse.
Basically jogged between contests.
There were times he could close on a opponent and he just. Fkking jogged
