I wouldn’t say desperate but with a three game buffer and every intention of snagging a flag, now is definitely the time to rest players with niggles or just in need of a freshen up.
Maybe not next week - Freo if they turn up are a yucky opponent, though I don't rate them to be honest. But surely Saints and North are games we should be looking for options to rest anyone sore and get some time to rest up, before some tough games in a row after that.

I thought Kirk was involved with the Giants as an assistant coach or similar early on wasn't he?
Just had a quick search of that. Can only see reference to him having assistant coaching stints at Freo and the Suns, not the Giants though.

Edit - Maybe you had that mixed up cos the Suns were a new team too?

We are 13-1 and still some are desperate to make changes. The changes being suggested are desperate for the sake of change.
I tend to disagree a little. Yes we're flying at the moment but we're not going to cakewalk to a flag.

The likes of Mills, Fox and Parker all bring something to the side and we have a handful of players struggling to make an impact.

Comfort breeds complacency. If players don't perform they shouldn't keep getting a game purely because their team mates are winning games.

Agree with this i don't think you can just say we won therefore no changes. A couple of players have been constantly in the bottom 4-5 performers for a month or so and thus a change to get someone in and them down to the 2s to get their form back. I don't think its a bad thing as having 26 or so players sharp and playable in the finals will give us the best chance at winning the flag

Parker is going to need a midfield injury most likely. They don't seem to want him
forward, guess he will have to hit form in the VFL and see.

I agree Wicks needs a bit more offensively but yeah will be interesting , not sure Parker is the answer anyway.
Agree that Parker isn't the answer. Wicks brings manic pressure and is much faster than Parker. I think they are two different types of players so you can't swap them.
Maybe Campbell could replace Wicks but I'm not sure he is the answer either.
I can't tell from the TV, but I wonder if Campbell is playing the low-possession lockdown role on a particular small forward. Can anybody tell me if he was given a task on someone?

the board almost feels a bit ho-hum this evening, when normally it'd be abuzz after a big win over the city rivals
and it should be, at 13-1!

i wonder if it's because beneath the excitement and revelry of our unfolding season, there's a growing sense of frustrated anticlimax ... because now that we've established ourselves as a team genuinely good enough to win a premiership (or more), i feel i want to get straight to that point ... like i'm impatient for the big games, finals, and the chances for this team to really prove its emerging greatness
cmon! grrrrrrr!! let's go!

The one thing with Wicks is that we looked shite when he didn't play, Fox tried the forward pressure role and the ball came out more easily.
I would say that is a little bit of an over simplification. We looked alright against Essendon and alright against GCS and we played a Hawthorn side that was 1-5 at the time. I think it didn't really have anything to do with Wicks being there and more to do with what the opposition did in those two games

Yeah guess it was odd at the end Jimbo OZ , like he decided to do it quick then thought be funny to turn and spin out.

Still doesn't bother me overly because I really don't care who wins the Kirk Medal. But I see what you mean.
I have no issue with it.

I think what the speech is for determines what is acceptable for the speech.

This was an individual honour that probably means nothing to Gulden (they usually get these medals wrong all the time anyway), so he has no desire, or obligation, to own the moment. It's completely his choice how he chooses to accept it.

If it was a team honour, say a post-GF speech as captain, or a captain's speech after a game representing some worthy cause, then the moment is bigger than him, and I trust Gulden would be able to recognise that and would have no problem giving more of his time to pay respect to that.

We are getting to the point where we just have to win the flag really .

I don't have an issue I just get it was a bit yeah whatever Kirk medal :)

2nd half was shit, we just went through the motions. We should've won this game by 60+ pts, it should've been a game that scarred GWS. I wasn't impressed with GWS, thought their pressure for the most part was average at best. A lost opportunity to drive home a massive derby win.

I think he does a lot of unappreciated non stat shit, so I think to look at how we go without him is reasonable valid. Is it simplistic? yes to a degree , but no more so than suggesting Corey Warner should play, a guy no where near senior footy and looked miles off when he played . I mean his surname is probably his best asset :p.

Wicks seems to be part of improving the collective willingness to do the team thing, if there is a contest or a chase he make it.

Yes I want more than 4 touches or whatever , but there were a fair few passages of play or defensive efforts he was involved in and has been every week.

If he didn't play his role he would be dropped.
