Shaw being dumped is a joke IMO.

On the Swans website Shaw's blurb said something like "will be given time to develop". Guess that's not the case. I guess with Spida and Doyle teaming up with Jolly it was only going to get harder for him to get onto the ground.

Any chance any of these de-listed players will be re-drafted by Sydney?

Shaw and Ericksen are ruckmen, correct?

Can you tell me a bit about them?

Do you think they are possibilities to be picked up-rookie lists perhaps?

Would it be a good move for the Blues?

Ditto for the Saints.

Can you give us a run-down on Shaw and Ericksen ... i.e. how have they been playing in the reserves and do you think they are capable of AFL?

Shaw is a handy tap ruckman and reasonable around the ground. Surprised to see him go, particularly as I thought the idea was to see if the other young ruckman (Rowe) could be developed as a KPP.

Ericksen is a former basketballer who never developed in any sense and lucky to be on the list for this length of time.

It does leave Sydney potentially under strength. Everitt is 32 (33 May next year) and Doyle is injury prone. That leaves Jolly and Rowe. Rowe is 'only' 196cm and still relatively skinny. And of course Rowe can only be promoted fronm the 2007 rookie list under certain circumstances. If everything goes according to plan Everitt, Jolly and Doyle is a handy trio, but you wouldn't want anything to go wrong.

I would have thought Shaw must be a chance to be picked up again.

No real surprise with the other delistings Davis and Willoughby never progressed and the coaching team didn't seem to have confidence in Spriggs (irrespective of him being named a GF emergency).

As for the rookies Sydney were only allowed 3 second year rookies under AFL rules so retained the best 3 in Barlow, Jack & Rowe, with Simpkin and Phillips promoted. I would have thought swapping Rowe for Simpkin may have made more sense.

I wouldn't mind Wall being redrafted as a rookie. He's 198 cm, but plays like a HBF. He could be handy down the line with more weight and if people constantly remind him he is that tall, as he really doesn't utilise his height.

It's a pity that Willo MK II was delisted, but the writing was on the wall all year. We may re-draft him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a chance at another club. Good luck to him regardless.

As for the ruck debate, I'm sure we'll pick up one of them as either a late draft pick or rookie list one of them. As well as picking up another assortment of goodies in the rookie list.

Relax, it's Roos we're talking about.

One thing about the delisting of the ruckmen - I heard there were some decent young ruckmen in this draft. Can anyone who has been watching the draft closely confirm this?

Even if we don't manage to pick one up, there could still be the option of re-drafting as others have said.

There are some excellent young ruckmen in the draft but unless we draft one at 15 we would be lucky for any yo be still available in the third round. It all depends on what the club sees as its needs. I think they will go for the best available player at 15 and then look for a KPP or ruckman for the next two picks. Redrafting Ericksen or Shaw might be one of their options. The other problem with ruckmen is you have to wait years for them to develop.

The development thing is an issue. Even excellent Ruck prospects usually go later in the draft. It might mean we could still nab someone with the picks we have.

Surprising that they've delisted this many.

I suspect now that O'Loughlin will be vet-listed, but Leo won't be. That will leave us with five spots on the senior list to fill. So we would use 15, 49, 65 and 81 in the national draft, and I imagine we'll also have a look at the pre-season draft. In that event, it wouldn't surprise me *too* much to see Spriggs and maybe Shaw re-enter calculations. You'd also have to think that Shaw's a chance to return to the rookie list.

Alternatively, with three rookies retained, we may leave the vet's list empty, only take four more senior players (I still think the PSD could play a role here) and load up on the maximum of six rookies. We know that Roos loves having a full rookie list.

Nobody will be redrafted. Considering they delisted 5 or 6 blokes when you only have to make room for 3 new draft picks means that if they wanted to retain any of them, they would'nt do it the hard way and instead just sign them up now.

Ahem.

Buchanan: redrafted with pick 45 in 2003. We took 5 picks that year (3 of which have now been delisted :()

On the other hand I seem to recall Aaron Rogers being delisted the year after he made it onto the senior list. So there is precedent either way.

LOL i cant believe Sydney picked up Spriggs in the first place we could of told ya's that ages ago.

Spriggs was a very fit player but he's skills were shocking and he had 0% courage in other words he was a soft co**

So do we only have 3 ruckmans now?

One ruckman will continue to play in the reserves. I think thats ridiculous. I still can't believe they delisted Earl Shaw.

I reckon they'll pick him up again, just making room on the list. They currently have 34 guys on the senior list. Does that leave room for 3 in the nat. draft and one psd. I think so anyway. Shaw will get another run as a rookie. The Eel however, is stuffed.
