Haven't seen any other Syd Barker threads so i'll post in here, well done to Boomer, no surprise really, the night was fantastic, the venue was superb and when I walked in it looked magnificent, last years was good too, but this venue looked really special, well done to the club, the whole night was awesome and i'm not over rating it at all, the speeches were magnificent, James spoke very well, I thought Thommo spoke brilliantly and Stephen Phillips was a top shelf mc, the best speech of the night for mine was Shagga, he really spoke very well, and thanked a lot of people as you would I guess.
Another highlight of the night was the clips put together on various players, all set to latest music and Boomers was set to 'Running' by a NZ band whose name escapes me atm, an idea I had was maybe the club could package the clips into a DVD and sell it to the supporters, might raise a bit of coin for the club who knows.
Good to see a few regular posters and meet a couple extra, I didn't mingle as much this year and the only player I spoke to was Goldstein, and that was in the loos, but he is a tremendous lad and I gave him a wrap about the year he had and he said he was surprised he did so well and was really keen for a big 2009.
Another highlight was the music that the 3 peice band played, now I'm not a musical expert but they were very tight and performed a lot of top 40 stuff which always goes across well with the crowd.
Perhaps if I can post one negative thing it would be Deans speech, as the night was in high spirits at all times, when Dean spoke he pulled everything up abruptly, I could be wrong on that though, at times he lost his way a bit and overall I thought he was under prepared, I hope I was the only one who thought this.
Adam Simpson spoke very well too and apologised for the seasons finish which I appreciated, he also said the years abrupt finish 'stuck in his gut' *see sig.
One other highlight for our table was the waiter who was 'legged' by David Hale who was kneeling talking to the people at the next table, it was the waiters fault because he had been rushing around and Haley had his leg out and down he went, stayed down too, had us in stitches:D , no food or drink was lost.
It truly is a fantastic night and goes way too quick, but if ever anyone has the opportunity to go, take it, you won't be dissappointed.

The music was good but I know a lot of people (especially older ones) thought it was too loud. It was actually quite difficult to speak to people whilst the band were playing. It was a good night, though.

Running is by Evermore and I agree, the editing was very, very good. Probably not TOD cool and I lose credibility points with Boner too, but pretty much every track they chose was already on my iPod.

Didn't see you at the BBQ Jozeph. Change of plans?

So, me and bellzy want to know, is he Jewish?

:D All I'll say is that me and Goldy were having a wee from the Westgate bridge and I said the waters cold and he said, its deep too.

Pharro, yep, no show at players bbq, had a hangover, didn't feel like topping up so gave it a miss, went to the car show at the exhibition centre
