I don't get the current mids are a let down. How did we get to a grand final last year?
8 talls injured and the problem is in the midfield. Haha.
A team functions best when all the members are playing as a team.
Take out the key cogs, reshuffle, play players out of position, and all of a sudden its the midfields fault.
Take a breath. Wait until we get some soldiers back. Stop throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Highlights how good Rampe is. He is so good.
Highlights how we need tom McCartin back.

We also lost a promising athletic goal kicking forward in Amartey.

We need some talls back. So much negativity.
Agree…..We are depleted, people seem to overlook that…Its a fact we need troops back.

Our VFL side yesterday got thumped by a team that hasn’t won a single game in living memory & isn’t too far off a 191-10 pantsing at the hands of Werribee.

Aside from Sheldrick and maybe Ruck Jesus, those hoping for major improvements via “ins” from the VFL side are dreamin’.

As an aside - the development (or lack thereof) in our first and second year players in the VFL is becoming troubling. There is no way, with the amount of AFL listed players in our VFL side, we should be losing to the Bullants.
Actually, they have won a game in living memory, versus us last season.

Injuries fun through the club and impact vfl…it’s nature of the beast for all aligned vfl clubs, it means you need to bring players into vfl who may not be ready for the jump
True.

But yesterday’s opponents had no AFL listed players and are the easy-beats of the VFL.

Even AFL rookies should be up to playing that kind of opposition.

Whether it’s coaching or something else - we have a problem.

We pruned back very hard last year. May take a year or two to revert. Had to happen.
next year we may be much better.

If was the exact same result as the gf that people are oh so proud of making, when we had that full list.

Speaking of bathwater, some need to stop drinking it. We have been humiliated by geelong twice in 7 last 7 games and destroyed by the demons. The club is a shambles right now.

We are uncompetitive against good sides, we roll over at the first sign of things not going our way.

Saturday night was an absolute embarrassment for anyone associated with the club. Up against the team mad3 us the laughing stock of the league in the grand final, did the same thing again. Not only that, we are meant to be a competitor of geelong for the flag, yet their players were laughing in the face of our players . They see us as a joke and were flat out taking the piss out of the club and players .

That is one of the most embarrassing and humiliating days in the clubs history. On all levels. Being laughed at by opposition is the most insulting thing that can happen in sport.

Putrid, disgusting, humiliating and sickening is how I would describe what I sat through on Saturday night

If we were that desperate for an inside contested player then I'd be turning to Rowbottom, who has proven himself capable at the highest level in the biggest games, before I'd be turning to Sheldrick, who has one senior game to his name.

If it were up to me personally, I'd be ousting Parker from the mids, putting him forward and playing Sheldrick in there, so that he and Rowbottom could help us in there together. As it happens I think there is a pecking order and Sheldrick is at the bottom of it, so will likely be given a role on a flank. Just my guess.

Mids

It requires a coaching rethink on the mids strategy. If Rowbottom was right in his smug comment the Coaches were happy with the way he was performing his role, then the need for a rethink is urgent.

I would banish Rowy and give him a lockdown role on Whitfield or Greene instead of Clarke and play Sheldrick solely in the mids. aFailing that boot Parker to the forwards to play the general leader there.

FFS play Mills as the leader of the main four man mid rotation with Gus, Chad and Parker/Rowbottom.

Our strategy Re wingers seems to be about maintaining width and running back to defend. Neither JMac nor Stevens play offensive roles, inc linking up in quick transition.

The ruck

Hickey was just travelling in the 2s and was not a factor around the ground which is usually one of his strengths. Think he took one mark. Truthfully Big Mac played better. Ideally RJ gets another week in the 2s.

Neither Ladhams nor Hickey can play a forward role so if both are selected one has to be on the pine. This cuts rotation rests for others. Hickey is too slow and Ladhams has no smarts or craft.

Defence

Hopefully one of Ramps or TMac returns and Gould must play a full game. Cunningham was our 22nd worst player just ahead of McDonald. He offers nothing whatsoever, beyond a lot of experience in going to water under pressure. Maybe break glass and play Rankin who at least is competitive and puts his head over the ball.

Forwards

McDonald had a complete nightmare and I hope has recovered and lost the taste for doughnuts. Feel for Francis as he is a more natural backman than a forward but I gave him a bare pass for Saturday and we have no options.

Assuming we get Rampe back this is my team

Gould Rampe Lloyd
Florent Fox Blakey
Stevens Sheldrick Campbell
Papley McDonald Heeney
Hayward Francis Parker

Ladhams Mills Gulden

IC McInerney, Rowbottom, McLean, Ch Warner

23rd Clarke

Ins: Gould, Sheldrick, Rampe
Outs: Roberts (inj), Clarke, Cunningham.

So weather.

Dreary with chance of late rain/showers. Though looks like they will impact around dark.

Around 19.

Oh and I guess we don't get Kellie Underwood this weekend? Second game of the round and all.

I get it. We weren't missing 8 talls in the GF.

Yes, that's right. The only part of the squad that was relatively intact. So we desperately needed the midfield to step up and help take pressure off our massively depleted defence by cutting back Geelong's supply and at least making an honourable defeat. (Realistically, we were never going to win that encounter, given the circumstances going in, but I think a lot of people on here are so disconsolate that Geelong were able to waltz unimpeded out of the centre bounces all. bloody. day.)

I'm so unbelievably dismal about not only this game, but the rest of the year.

Treat it like a bottom 4 year now. Either drop players or change their positions.

IMO, I'm moving Gulden out of the midfield onto a wing again and putting McInerney in. He's woefully out of Form, and if he doesn't get moved I think he should be dropped.

I would put Rowbottom and Sheldrick at the coal face for 80% of the game and rotate a large amount of players through. Florent, McInerney, Stephens, Gulden, Campbell, even McDonald. We need to see what some of these blokes can do when the responsibility is on them to win the ball. If we see the same set up that has been slaughtered by 93 points I'm going to spew.

bet that campaigner Duncan is now convulsing with laughter. Lost all respect for him as a person.

Question - why wasn’t Fox tested during the game?
