It's possible, but don't tell me Inglis and Green aren't international standard. The balance was wrong and the blame probably falls on selectors for the period leading up to the World Cup as opposed to the Cup itself. The criticisms that the side was old and declining is not hindsight, it was being made long before the tournament started.

TBH though Australia didn’t have the spin depth to win a tournament in the Windies / USA… Afghanistan already have 3 spinners better then Australia and there only a developing side

its not really the spinners that win it.....its the low slow pitches that lack pace and bounce ...for the quicks mediums as well as the spinners...thats where our bigger boys marsh stoin David struggle with touch...its whack through the line all the time..

inglis was picked due to his ability as a touch player...and to bat in the middle ..precisely for this situation...why he wasn't given a single game is just criminal from Ronald McDonald ...smacks of playing his mates...boys club mentality

Stoinis got luck early in the first game was dropped on 11, should have been out 11 (17) first game, couldn’t drop him after smacking 70 odd and same with Warner, every man and his dog knew Warner was shot but he scored runs early on in the nothing games so couldn’t drop him and they made Marsh captain so again couldn’t drop him.

Top 5 horribly out of form / shot and the early games conned a few.

Luke your been calling David and Wade our best “finishers” for ages haha

Hardly, what I have said is we lack finishers period (can probably only think of Ollie Davies as one potentially). If we are batting a keeper at 7 (we shouldn’t as Inglis should bat 3/4) then he needs to be a finishing type. You don’t need David when Max/Stoinis are going well. He hasn’t done it internationally don’t care how many duds he belts in the ipl.

The problem with this side is we should have been figuring out our batting lineup a year ago and instead we send half who cares sides to SA, India and get zilch out of those tours.

Inglis does take a little bit of time to build and would have been perfect at number four in some of those matches. Might have also won the Afghan game as he would have been less likely to miss those couple of chances.

Honestly would have had him at 3. Can bat in the PP but can play spin well unlike Marsh etc

Going into the tournament the biggest concerns where Both Warner and maxis form ...which was terrible.. Marsh getting injured in the IPL didn't help and he had very little cricket and it showed....and wade basically had no cricket

David does what he does in 15 off 8 balls but thats about it

Head had form...and so did Greenie at the back end of the IPL

Stoinis scored a ton the IPL and was player of the tournement in the WC or the first couple of weeks before the backend...where the worn pitches and playing back to back caught up with the squad

The biggest issue for me...was not resting enough players during the Scotland game..which was a perfect opportunity ....we had qualified net run rate which should of counted IMO and was not an issue...we should of played our backup players greenie Inglis etc and rested the squad

and the 2nd biggest issue was bloody bowling first on the pitch in I think Guyana....where everyone even at the start of the tournament was talking about how low slow and hard it was batting 2nd on that ground and stats proved it ....and guess what we win the F**king toss bowl and bat 2nd ...it was stupid...the only way the ghans could win was defend a total.....and it happened

just stupid coaching/tactics

Ever since Finch we have this ridiculous idea that it’s better to bowl first every single time, fluked a World Cup doing it and we’ve never thought of doing anything different. If India who have the best chasing bat of all time are batting first what does that tell you? This WC with the slower deteriorating pitches it was bat first and we were brainless enough to give Afghanistan exactly what they wanted- Rashid defending a total. Terrible team selection worse tactics.

Surely Australia realise that WC they won the toss was deciding the games, it was almost impossible to defend a target if the sides were evenly matched.

They should…they don’t though
