Traded Tanner Bruhn [Traded to Geelong for #18]

I doubt it, given that we're also very much into Ollie Henry and he has definitely outperformed Tanner Bruhn since drafting.

I know it's not GWS' concern, but there isn't exactly a queue of clubs for Tanner and he hasn't done enough since drafting to justify a pick better than 17/18.

Doesnt matter if 17 clubs want him. If Geelong do they need to satisfy the trade.

Hawks and Roos both talked to him, BTW. Posaibly others.

GWS will do what they can to facilitate a trade that works for them, I think all clubs would do the same thing in their position.

It kind of does matter simply because he is out of contract, so not reaching an agreement has a poor outcome. GWS don’t have the same option that Freo has with Lobb of holding him to the contract.

In fairness, if Bruhn was to go into the draft, I think he would make it to the end of the first round.

It seems fairly evident from the moment he was drafted that he’s very much a homeboy from the area, too.

If I'm Macartney I say 17/18 straight up swap or next year's first with a late pick going back with Bruhn.
If I’m Wells, I’m saying yeah ok and here’s the list of Geelong Falcons players we’d like you to draft with it please and thankyou ;)

And I’d say give us list of any other uncontracted players not in their teams best 22 and let me know if the trade involved the word 1st.

I take it as positive in a negotiation where the Giants start proceedings at just one first.

Henry? I could give a long list of the 2020 draft first rounders not in their teams best 22, mostly because they are still developing. Every club would still be asking a high price for them.

I think the Giants will start negotiations there because that's where they'll end as well.

This should be done before lunchtime on the first day of trading, it's so obvious.

No issue with the opening ask. It’s as expected. There is literally the same article about Caldwell and Hately.

Like has been said before Geel may as well sit back and wait until GWS sort out Hopper. You will be get Rich F1st (15-18) and maybe a third. Given that he is double the player Bruhn is it would be highly cheeky to continue to ask for 18 this year for Bruhn.

Just an opinion. You make a valid point about Henry. He may very well be the 1st exception (you didn’t come up with any previous examples ) only bc he’s a tallish goal kicker who are so hard to find.

The melts when we shaft GWS will be proper. First round pick 😂😂

Most clubs don't try to 'shaft' the other club in a trade. You work out about what a player is worth and what you have that compares that you can offer and do the deal.

There is no reason why the Bruhn deal couldn't be done on day 1. Geelong's 1st this year or next is perfectly fair for both.

He'd still have to get past 16 or 17 clubs to get to Geelong, so it'd hardly be a given that he'd get there.
Pretty close to it. Was p12 originally, hasn’t done a massive amount at AFL level, was clearly unhappy with draft outcome the first time around and so falling to p18 is pretty standard. The main question is whether he would be our best choice at that pick ;)

Anyway, p18/19 (depending on where we finish) should be fine.

So you think he's worth pick 18/19, and that nobody else could possibly think he was worth even a little bit more like 16 or 17.

Uh huh.

Difference is that he would be happy to be with us.

But yes, someone else could snaffle him at 16/17. In which case, ok, we pick someone else.

But anyway, I don’t see why our first wouldn’t do the trade anyway

I think people put too much emphasis on the "he picked us, therefore we're the only club he could possibly be happy at" theory.

Location perhaps could come into it (depending on the player), but I dare say he'd be similarly content at any other Melbourne based club that pays the same money.

Not the only one he could possibly be happy at, but I think it's reasonably fair to say he'd be a bit resentful.

Look, if he clearly had the talent of a top ten pick, then yeah I get it - but he hasn't shown that yet. p18/19 is pretty fair and I don't see why GWS wouldn't take it.

So Bruhn is not worth a first round pick to Geelong. So let’s send him into the draft and hope he gets to Geelong’s first round pick so they can use it on him?

Instead of just trading that first with GWS?
Nah, he's worth our first-round pick. Very few Geelong supporters suggesting otherwise.
