The word is that Tarrant wants to return to Victoria and has asked the Dockers to trade him, should we go after him ?

I think he is well worth chasing if we could get the right deal ..he has developed into one of the best defenders in the comp and would strengthen our backline, with Thornton Jamieson Bower and Austin back there he could be the tall defender we desperately need, this would allow Waite to go forward.

I would imagine other clubs like Hawthorn would be chasing him as well so he may be tough to snare .

What are your thoughts ?

I say yes.

He is good mates with Fevola (whether that is a good thing or not) and he would go a long way to settling our structure.

With Tarrant down back - it would allow Waite to play CHF.

Yes, he'll be turning 29 next year - but we could still pull 3 years out of him while our window is open - and even then, allow future defensive stock (like Talia lol) to grow and learn.

IMHO he'd be a much better option that Goose McGuire.

my thoughts are we have enough KPD and any draft picks/trades should be used for positions we are more desperate to fill such as the future fevola, inside hard nut midfielder, speedy mid, hurn type of hbf etc...

Could also strengthen our forward line if he got his head right and fixed his kicking. Would be a far better lead up option then Fisher. Bit of a risk at his age though i reckon.

I am tempted to say 'yes' too. Obviously the coaching staff will be in a better position to assess this but Tarrant and Jamo can take the gorilla forwards and that will free up Bower, T-Brid and Waite to take smaller more agile forwards as well as be more attacking and play third man up.

Also a handy insurance policy if we have injuries to key back men like this year.

Please go for him, it would be good to have him back in Victoria, but a word of caution, his best years have passed him and I cant really see him being a good candidate for your side.

I don't really understand why the dockers would even entertain the idea of trading him, they traded a good pick and Medhurst for a dud, after a shocking first year, he is finally coming good and they want to get rid of him. Dockers have no clue about keeping talented players at their club.

Tarrant is the one who wants out mate, I think the Dockers will hold onto him unless they getter a fair trade.

From this:

Make sure you beat those tankers for us, it would be a shame for a bunch of cheats to win a final, and how I would love for them to get smashed in their first final, it would really show us that they are coming, in the year 2030

The state housing system does work !!

Its a yes from me, he's still got two or three years left at least, he can play on the big players, will allow jamo to play on the second tall, will release Waite forward, will allow us to develop Austin in the magoos, will allow us to play Thornton loose across half back, will push Bower to the half back flank where he can pick up the third tall and run all day. Allows us to push players like Armfield and Russell further up the ground.

Having a player like Tarrant is a great insurance policy, we can throw him in the back half for the next two or three years while Austin develops and we can draft more tall timber without throwing em to the wolves straight away should we have injuries like we have had this year. It is a win win imo. For a third rounder i would go for it straight away. If they want a fringe player to sweeten the deal such as Fisher or someone similar i would throw that in to. He would complete our structure and give us increased depth in the back half, he can also play full forward. I would be moving heaven and earth to get him to Carlton for the next few years if it involves a third round pick.

Those saying no will quickly change their tune after J Brown tears us a new one on the weekend!

I think it would of happen if we didn't sign Bower (maybe a swap). Our backline really isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

If Waite and Jamison can be fit and firing for most of the season, I think our backline will be quite settled.

I think people may be overrating what Tarrant's price would be.

He'd be taking a pay cut to come home.

He will tell Freo he wants to play for such and such - meaning they have to deal (ie. Warnock, Judd).

He's 29 soon.

... and if they're not?

Both are coming back from serious injuries .. hate to sound cynical but what if they're not the same?

What if Waite isn't as quick or doesnt jump as high?

What if they get-reinjured?

Need insurance.

There are plenty of what ifs?
What if Fev is injured? Can anyone really cover for a colemen medalist
What if Judd is injured? Can anyone really replace an All-australian, premiership brownlow medalist?
What if
What if..

Your making it sound as though we have absolutely noone to cover in defense. The same logic can be applied to our forward/midfield. I am not saying recruiting tarrant is a bad idea, it just wont be as big as a disaster as you making i t out to be.
