Tarrant wants to return to Victoria...should we ?

why are you even talking about it his clearly not going anywhere.

REVITALISED Fremantle defender Chris Tarrant will not play for any other AFL club next season, regardless of his intentions beyond 2010, coach Mark Harvey says.

The coach has also labelled key defender Marcus Drum a required player at Fremantle after an eye-catching end to the 22-year-old's season.

It has been reported that Tarrant, who turns 29 this month and is entering the final year of a four-year deal with Fremantle, is exploring a possible return to Victoria.

But Harvey said the converted full-back would be playing at Fremantle next season, and any plans Tarrant may have to return to his home state at the end of his contract would not change the club's position.

"He's contracted to Fremantle and he will be playing at Fremantle next year," Harvey told afl.com.au.

No thanks the guy is a hack, have too many of those. And like has been mentioned before one good season does not make a good player.

This is just upping the stakes. He'll want to screw as much out of the deal as he can - so he's not likely to roll over and let Tarrant walk for next to nothing.

Tarrant has not been beaten all season, you get him in your side and the opposition's best forward is a non issue.

Yeah, for the next two years... and assuming he doesnt stuff up off field/ resort back to his old ways on it.

A second round pick (i.e. in the 30's) should (in all likelyhood) turn out to be a very good player, possibly a dud, possibly even a gun... for the next 10 years plus.

We would be interested, but not at that price.

Does Harvey have any idea how to rebuild a club?

Shouldve traded Pav last year, and should trade Tarrant this year.

FFS, we would have given them #6 (and a player) for Pav last year and that would have snared them Daniel Rich and another.

They just dont get it do they?

Why on earth would he want to hang onto these blokes when they arent going to help Freo get a premiership. Its got me bamboozled.

Of course you need to bear in mind the Freo fans reactions when Harvey trades Pav and Tarrant. Plus he needs these blokes to squeeze out a few wins for him so he can keep his job.

He's on thin ice as it is.

Is he really the type of player that we need at Carlton? I still firmly believe that our perceived lack of talls is a myth. We've been a bit unlukcy this year that 2 key talls (Waite and Jamison) have been injured for large chunks of the year. Throw in Walker, who can play on a key back, and even Austin being injured, and it doesn't help.

What has also hurt us is Warnock & Jacobs being injured, which has prevented Kreuzer playing forward more often this year.

If it was me, i'd be going after a hard-nosed midfielder (Luke Ball), and also trying to inject some real leg speed into the team as well.

Would have been pretty handy on Saturday... we got murdered in the backline. It's not a lack of talls, it's a lack of defenders and Tarrant has that Waite quality about him.

If I was looking to do this deal, it would involve Cloke, our second round and an exchange of our third round picks.

If they started going on about any other player and our first round pick it would be a case of 'You can keep him'.

This is exactly the type we should go after......but the Saints wouldn't trade him, and we wouldn't be able to come up with what they would want for him.

They don't need any of our players, and pick 11 won't cut it.........but getting Ball would be right on the money.:thumbsu:

.......or Dangerfield. :D

Seriously the amount of 'yes' responses in this thread absolutely staggers me.

Deadset, do some of you guys honestly watch any football apart from Carlton?

How many talls do you think we need on the field at any one time?

Yeah sure we'll play Jamison, Thornton, Bower, Austin and Tarrant in the backline.

We'll play Waite, Fevola and Setanta in the forward line.

We'll play Kreuzer, Hamspon and Warnock in the ruck

Tarrant is completely unnecessary for our team. We have much much much bigger holes to fill than getting a 28 year old defender who has had one decent season in the past half dozen and is on $500k a year.

Have you noticed why our form's been so good the past few weeks? Because we are not top heavy anymore, flexible, fleet footed defenders like Russell, Joseph and Walker followed by just TWO 192cm+ players in Thornton and Bower has given us so much flfexibility. That's what you need in modern football. Players who can play on both talls and smalls and rebound with menace.

I am struggling to think if we can even play Jamison, Bower and Thornton in the one 50 and some of you want to add Austin and Tarrant to that as well?

Further, Tarrant is only going to stop Austin's development. Aussie will be in his fourth season next year. That is his time. He doesn't need a has-been 28 year old clogging up his place.

Finally, forget about this "will allow us to play Waite forward" rubbish. Thornton and Bower, Russell and Walker will allow us to do that next year. We've missed Waite and Jamo for more than half the season yet done fine without them. Some would argue we have attacked with even more purpose in the last few weeks from the backline than we did in their presence. At max you can add Jamo to the backline we are currently using and you'll still be able to play Waite forward. Do not need Tarrant for that.

A big no from me.

YES.... for a 3rd rounder

He should be able to stick around for a couple of years while our window is open. - Probably 3 years... maybe 4 because he's got good durability. I think also he'd love to be back in a team that is having some success. It would be a good fit for both parties I reckon. :thumbsu:

i think it would be a good fit for the blues, but there is no way he is leaving for a third rounder, would be a 2nd rounder plus an upgrade of our 3rd pick would be the minimum. it will be stkilda that get him anyway. jamison at full back, tarrant at chb, bower on the back flank, and thornton struggling for a game would be how i see it if he went over

No HBF he isn't plus his coach has said that he is a required player & is contracted for another year.

"When you commit to a four-year contract you commit to a four-year contract. He won't be playing for any other club next year."
