450 a game? how many sfl players are worth that? a certain sfl club are apparently paying this for a player

Other than coaches, I can think of a couple that were rumoured to be on exactly that last season. In saying that, the club that apparently was paying them that much achieved what they were aiming for....

Why, who is apparently getting that much?

South Launceston full forward Chris "Bobby" Page is apparently being chased by Bridgenorth, while South are after Rocherlea full forward Dave Wickham and also former Devil and Mariner Ryan Innes could be making a comeback with South

Bobby would be a great get for a country team and would kick a lot of goals in the ntfa. Likewise Wickham would kick goals at a higher level, but probably not to the same extent as in the ntfa. Innes is very, very over rated. Extremely soft.

Being a southerner, I don't really follow the NTFL that closely. Our accommodation was about a ten min walk metres from the ground (Devonport) so we went along for a look. East were terrible....

Only the mothers of the East Devonport player would describe them as athletes these days!!

Although I must admit...I saw them play South Launceston at Youngtown in July (around the time when Armstrong left the Devils) and they were competitive all day, but were unlucky to lose by 6 goals. Mind you, 1 game doesn't gain you a lot of credibility in my eyes!!

I think you would find there is more than one player on this kind of money.either that or the y are very close to it, 18 games @ $450 is only $8100, however not much football success.and usually no loyalty.

what i asked was WHO IS WORTH 450? how can clubs pay out overthe top payments HAVE THE SFL GOT A SALARY CAP? (or do they turn a blind eye to struggling clubs) this one club will pay 3 players this amount play the season then leave SOME CLUBS NEVER LEARN

I have been told a Premier SFL club is paying 5 players $ 28800.00 next season . 1@$ 550, 1@ $350, 1@ $300 ,1@$250, 1@ $150, per game, I wonder if this will help them or create a problem when the other players find out.

You could have came straight out and said it is Brighton. Not the biggest secret in the world.

Many country clubs in the North of the state regularly shell out that kind of money, although it is never through the books. Probably don't get many players above the $300 or $350 mark, but i personally know of teams that spend more than $20k every year.

From the Examiner this morning
Whish-Wilson joins Walker at Wynyard

The resurgence at the Wynyard Football Club continued last night with the appointment of a new coach and the election of a new president.

Former Burnie Dockers' midfielder Dale Whish-Wilson has been appointed non- playing coach of the Cats and will move into his new role next Thursday when pre- season training begins.

Enviromental consultant Bill Walker was elected president at last night's annual meeting, replacing Robert Hope, who will continue as a vice-president.

Walker said that the appointment of Whish- Wilson, who has tasted success as a premiership coach with Myalla, would bring a new dimension to Wynyard and he also wanted to acknowledge the work done by previous coach Kent Jackson.

"Dale has been well respected wherever he has been, he is committed and is particularly good with young players," Walker said.

Walker said the club had made significant progress since a public meeting a few weeks ago. He said winning the NTFL under-19 premiership in September had been a timely boost for the Cats.

The club will give Whish-Wilson the responsibility of filling the other coaching roles, with an aim to attract former players back to the club.

Former best and fairest winner Shannon Bakes has given an indication he will return and the club will continue talks with Gregg Sharman and James Armstrong, who both moved to Hobart to enhance VFL prospects.

"We're setting some realistic goals for next year," Walker said.

The Northern Bombers remain the only club yet to appoint a coach for 2007.

What was Justin Cotton on this year, he shopped himself around like a male prostitute before he went to Penguin !!

Don't know what Cotton was on, but i think the NTFL salary cap is $45K. Many clubs wanted to raise it to $70K but it was rejected. Their arguement is that if they appoint a high profile coach they have little money to pay players with afterwards. Not sure if the cap includes a Burnie type set up where they often have a coachwho is also the general manager of the club.

The clubs i was thinking of that pay out really good money are NWFA, Darwin,NEFU, NTFA

Dale Wish Wilson has been appointed coach of Wynyard. North waiting on the draft before appointing a coach.

Talk is plenty over in Mount Gambier that Justin 'Joey' Cotton will return to Western Border fl next season and team up again w Ashleigh Brown (99% sure of coaching West Gambier in 07') for whom he played under @ Millicent in 05' also in the wbfl !! Suffice to say i'd doubt that it'll stop Cotton from passing his cv around to other clubs :D :D :D
Word also has it that Brown has a carload of players in sight to cross bass strait by the start of next season...he'll need them as west have lost 16 from there 1's and reserves and thirds will struggle

One name also whispered Brown is talking to.....not so much Brown but his right hand man at West, Rick Slatter (former taswegian) is Ling from Penguin !? Is he staying put at Penguin fc.

OK ok ok, back down to the Capital city of this fine state for some Southern Tasmanian news .............

1) DOSA forward Brendon Rogers the target of some very inviting offers from 3 clubs across the Old Scholars competition and the Regional League.

My DOSA sources expect the Roosters to match these offers in the hope of keeping "Mantis".

2) Former North Hobart champion rover and former North Hobart, Latrobe and DOSA coach Darryn Perry has been appointed as an Assistant Coach to Daryn Cresswell at the Tasmanian Devils.

"Cressa" apparently persued "Pezza" after first striking a chord with the blonde chick magnet in his time at North Hobart in 1991-92.

3) Huonville had a sponsor ring Allan Haw and said "name your price"!

Haw told them he wasn't interested, but just out of interest asked what kind of money were they talking.

They repeated "name your price!"

With McGregor on $23,000 p/a to coach Huonville according to Kingpin, Chris Joyce on a packet as Assistant Coach plus this offer to Haw and lets face it God knows who else - money doesn't appear to be in short supply down at the Lions Den.

Must be selling a hell of a lot of apples!

They good folk down there wouldn't be paying under the table would they?

Surely not!

I hope these clubs are paying on performance, and not inflated reputations from years gone by. I am afraid to ask what consistant performing players are getting, if your information is correct.i would not like to be paying them even with counterfiet money.

Troy Davies has been appointed coach of Scottsdale. Hopes to entice the young talent from the NEFU to the club as well as some former team mates from the NW coast.

I see Campania Football Club have reformed and are supposedly playing in the ODFA next season according to an ad in today's Sunday Tasmanian.

John Dyer, a current Lions board member is tipped to be the next Hobart Lions president as moves continue to remove current president Philip Baker from the job.
Baker is alleged to have said "over my dead body" when it was mentioned that someone else may take over as president.
I can think of several hundred Incat workers and many, many ex Tiger fans who'd like that first scenario to eventuate.

I tell you wat Kingpin i would like to see Dyer in that position about as much id like cancer. Seriously Baker might not be much chop but he has it ova Dyer in every single possible way.....Atm there is no one on the board that has the capabilities to be president and until such time i dont think things will change!
