Apparent NTFA Division 2 goings on according to what I've heard........

Campbell Town - Will be in recess
Fingal - Attempting to buy premiership 2 (Bought more players apparently)
Uni-Mowbray - Splashing a bit of coin around. A brother of one of their new recruits said he was getting some decent money there.
Evandale - Will be about the same
Perth - Again splashing money around on ordinary players
Old Launcestonians - Ex heart and soul of OL's Alex Robinson has left the club to play with Old Scotch because "he's had enough of the crap". Will struggle if they don't go into recess.
Tamar Cats - Throwing coin around after saving their cash in the last few years. Have ex NEFU 100+ goal kicker Barron as new coach.
Old Scotch - We'll be strong on and off the ground again this year. Picked up well and haven't lost anyone although a lot of players have been offered big money at other clubs.
St. Pats - Will be looking good this year after picking up a number of Rocherlea players.

Rocherlea may be back in Div 2 also depending on their u/19's

Yeah and a few others from George Town are heading to the Cats, Gareth Woodgate is one of them.
Rocherlea in Division Two wouldn't surprise me...

Welcome back Thistle,

Is that the captain from last years side? The real estate agent?

Are you the formerly known superstar under the alias of "Judbury Jets" ?

No, I can guarantee you that he is not... But who is he, that is the question?
By the way, was looking through the top5 lists, and Brady Jones is surely in the top 5 at Kingborough, and Ryan Fielding would be mighty close as well.

Not a bad effort old tiger. Piuselli would be a certainty for Glenorchy, Long and Cox would be very stiff to miss out on North Hobart, I saw Delaney the other day and is the size of a house atm and is very much struggling to recover from the broken ankle that ruined the end of his season. So his availability next year is questionable as is Gilmore as if rumours are correct he has signed with Hobart. Down the dale if Mitch robinson wasnt there best player by the length of their oval then id be mightly shocked.

lets do one for the NTFL

if it goes on playing lists for next year take out wager and westfield as they are travelling.
for north you would have to add whish wilson, crawford and maybe little joh who have signed on with them for next year and maybe higgs from devonport might get a run after his finals form with devonport.
Surely brennan savage would get a run in for launceston. rest are pretty spot on though. lict has moved to qld as well so wont be playing for devonport either. a fit e taylor will be a major bonus for burnie as well!

Top Five from each club taking into account players available 2008 season, Glenorchy CURRAN, CORBETT, MOLES, McIVOR, GLENN, North Hobart DeGOOYER, JENKINS, GEAPPEN, WALKER, POTTER, Clarence SETCHELL, SHARMAN, BEECHEY, ARCHER,GEAPPEN, New Norfolk CARVER, WESSING, GRAHAM, HORNE, CLAYTON, Brighton DELANEY, SPLANN, GILMORE, SALTER, BARWICK, Hobart HARVEY J, DICKSON, DYKES, YOUD, REEVES, Lauderdale MEAD, FITZE, FARRINGTON, ROBERTS, DI ENNIO, Kingborough BLIGHT, ANDREWS, PHILP, PESTRUCCI, LAMPKIN, THESE PLAYERS ARE NOT LISTED IN PLAYING ORDER .

Hats off for having a crack OLD LION but were you drunk when you did this!! Think you would have been better going on last years form rather than trying to crystal ball who will play where in '08 and more to the point predict their form.

MOLES (Glen.) didn't play a single game for Glenorchy last year so I wouldn't expect that he would this year either (unless you are referring to his younger brother Shane - but prob. not). Prob. in the Devils best 5 tho.

JENKINS (N.H.) has played about 5 games for Nth. Hob. in the last 3 years, wasn't in the best nick and struggled to make an impact, so perhaps his selection is based on past glories.

POTTER (N.H.) promising young tall - but come on - are you related or something. Take any of Cox, Long, Muir or a handful of others before him.

ARCHER (Clar.) give it a rest. Could play when he was fit and had two good knees. Now lacks mobility and the great leap he once had. Nowhere near the best 5.

DYKES (Hob.) not playing '08. Travelling. Cassidy must be in their best 5 IF he plays with them.

YOUD (Hob.) is a good athlete but has played as many reserves games as seniors over the past few years. Any reason why this will change?

MEAD (Laud.) bit player now that they have some young promising talls. Will prob. struggle for a game this year. How bout Mitch Robinson instead who CAN play.

FARRINGTON (Laud.) played more than half the year in the magoos and is on the wrong side of 30. Are you expecting improvement from him?

ANDREWS (King.) are these blokes still even in the state? either of them?

LAMPKIN (King.) did he even play last year? Is he one of the only blokes you know down there?

Hi guys. First post here. I play for a struggling regional league club. Won't take much to fugure out who. Hope to bring some gossip to the column in the future.

Barge - You will know this Lachrilly pretty well, another fellow pie muncher like you.

Good day for the Tassie boys at the pre-season and rookie drafts.

PRE-SEASON
No.8 Tom Bellchambers (Launceston/Mariners) - Essendon

ROOKIE
No.2 Aaron Joseph (glenorchy/Mariners) - Carlton
No.14 Nathan Grima (central districts) - Kangaroos
No.16 Brodie Moles (glenorhcy/Devils) - Geelong
No.42 Alex Grima (Mariners) - Hawthorn

well we shall now wait for wade and co to start jumping up and down sprouting how good the system here is again and how well all the tassie administrators have done ...they may even stop with their ****ed idea about giving statewide another crack

good to see Tom has found himself at a great club. Pity Wingnut missed out again though... And Todd Grima must think himself very very unlucky...

Not to mention the $$$$$ for their pockets. Wade might be able to afford a hot tub in his backyard for Xmas now with his bonus.
That would be a picture, all the fat cats of AFL Tas in a hot tub in Wade's backyard discussing their next mission.

So are you trying to say that Archer had a better year in '07 than "China"?

Kamaric won't be at Glenorchy next year - here's the annual chestnut that amazingly never turns out to be true.

Should it come true this time it would be a tragedy. Far too good a player to finish up at 28 years old.

Or is he on the move?

I'll offer $1.05 he'll be at Glenorchy in 2008!

i will throw my bank balance on those odds. disco wont go anywhere!

The talk coming out of pie land is that Adam Henley fresh from Kermandie premiership success is very much in line for the top job at KGV. With talk of Kaye and Harrison returning Henley may be the way to go. Definately has a good coaching record.
VOTE 1 for PINNER!

Didn't have to wait very long donvito

The General Manager of AFL Tasmania, Scott Wade, says the number of local players drafted into the national league is a strong endorsement of the state league.
Launceston ruckman, Tom Bellchambers, was selected by Essendon at Pick 8 in the pre-season draft, and Glenorchy player Aaron Joseph is heading to Carlton.
Brodie Moles is off to the defending AFL premier Geelong, and brothers Alex and Nathan Grima were selected as rookies for Hawthorn and the Kangaroos.
Mr Wade says it's fantastic result.
"What it does is re-inforce that Tasmania has still got some talent, that we can produce," he said.
"So while we're the only state without a national team in our backyard, were still capable of producing players of a national quality."

I hav to partially disagree. Statewide football was good, and should have remained - despite the problems it was salvagable. But the way they are doing it is a disaster, clubs are struggling for numbers already - creating 9 new teams on top of that is just plain ****ed in the head.

And a state league can't run alongside the Devils. Choose one of them - for me it has to be a state league. Scrap the Devils and work with the clubs, as opposed to imposing it on them, to find a way forward for an 8 team (ideally 6, but population spread doesn't really allow that) state league.
I would suggest no reserves, farm them out to clubs the level below NTFL/SFL - freeing up more players for country and suburban teams and keeping travel costs down while providing maximum incentive for players to play at state league level without increasing salary caps a lot - less players, same cap, higher payment per player who makes the grade. No ressies is about the only thing AFL Tas has got right with their proposal, everything else is so amazingly wrong.

Having both NTFL and SFL trying to be top leagues leaves the talent spread between almost 20 clubs (with the cream cyphoned off to the Devils, where half the state never get to see them) - while SA and WA have only 9 top teams below the AFL. Its no wonder the standard is shite.

Given neither North Hobart or York Park are major cricket grounds, or cricket grounds of any sort, I wonder if it would be possible to play the finals series in October. No AFL on the TV to complete against, and the international cricket not started. Start the footy season around Anzac Day, or leave a couple more weekends open for rep footy - both intrastate and interstate.

Here's a thought:

How much are these Statewide League players going to get paid?

Because we all know of guys playing bush level figuratively who are getting paid handsomely for nowhere near the commitment needed for Statewide.

Like they are gonna bother with it!

Another gem from the great one
AFL Tasmania general manager Scott Wade said the listings were very pleasing.
"A week's a long time in footy!" he said.
"We sometimes forget there are three national drafts and the end result is pretty satisfying.

"We are particularly pleased with Nathan Grima and Brodie Moles because they would never have got a chance of playing AFL footy were it not for the Devils.(Maybe the Central Districts had something to do with Grimas' drafting Scott) All six recruits have played VFL football so we are confident that our talent pathway is working and those that questioned it maybe ought to eat their words."

Words like these?
Wade said the lack of draftees also came from the standard of regional competitions, which was why AFL Tasmania was pushing for a revamped statewide league starting in 2009.(Does this mean you won't push for it now?)
"If Tasmanian football fans don't realise now you won't get drafted by playing NTFL and SFL footy, then they will never realise it," he said.
"It is an enormously competitive environment and Tom Collier played one TAC Cup game, he played in the national championships in which he didn't dominate, but he played exceptional VFL footy. There is no doubt Tom Collier's VFL experience didn't do him any harm.
"Tom Bellchambers, he's a 200cm-plus guy and in hindsight, the program we had in place last year didn't do him any favours."
"He dominated the NTFL grand final, he played exceptionally good footy but it doesn't count for anything when young players are trying to get drafted.
"The quality of the competition is not good enough."
Do you want salt with that?

i think u have to give devils some credit with grima, there is a fair chance if he didnt play vfl first central wouldnt have bothered with him.

Total buullshit. He was a gem of a player at a young age Tall and mobile. Just how they want them. The VFL side here will be very shortly full of players after a big buck and not real commited. This is what football people said would happen in the first place. Buy someone elses duds just like our cricket side did for years until they woke up.
