Devine looked embarrasing! I felt sorry for him, what a disgraceful selection!!!

It was a low light for the SFL to play him, there needs to be a change next year with the selection process!!

I think there is a great Midnight Oil song thats called " short memory"

RD , Was the hero of last years last quarter surge that got the SFL over the line.
Kicked two goals in the last quarter, match winning ability he has plenty of.

Yeah ok , he looks terrible , but when your effective who cares, so it wasnt his day , well thats footy.... is he not also one of the leading goal kickers in the comp in the SFL?

give the guy some credit......

Is the leading goalkicker. 30 or 40 goals certainly warrants selection i would have thought!!

i would have picked diieno ahead of devine any day of the week. devine looks like he is struggling with the fitness at the moment.

what happened to matty westfield and jason howard? they should have played unless injured.

winter made a good point tho about the date of the rep game, play it earlier, have another break later in the year. more players would prefer that i reckon

You can't be serious! So what if he kicked two goals last year! He has also gained two stone in weight!!!

Devine might be able to kick goals at North Hobart playing against poor opposition, where he doesn't have to run and apply forward pressure to the opposition backs, however on the vast Devonport oval against a fit, quick running team, (the NTFL), he was severly exposed!!!

Selection is horses for courses, and Devine should never been selected!!!

For those who may not have seen it, The Age Newspaper recently announced their Top 50 Legends to mark 150 years of Australian Rules Football.

Link

Good to see there were 4 Tasmanians represented; the usual suspects:

DARREL BALDOCK
(St Kilda 1962-68, 119 games)
St Kilda's only premiership captain, and an AFL Hall of Fame Legend, "the Doc" led the Saints for six seasons and won three best-and-fairest awards. Although his career was comparatively short, Baldock won a huge reputation as an undersized but tremendously skilled and courageous centre half-forward.

ROYCE HART
(Richmond 1967-77, 187 games)
One of the great centre half-forwards, the Tasmanian was a standout in the Tigers' best teams. Possessed a great leap, vice-like hands, was a penetrating kick and had tremendous balance and recovery. Won two best-and-fairest awards and played in four Richmond premierships, serving as captain in two.

PETER HUDSON
(Hawthorn 1967-74 and 1977, 129 games)
Could be the greatest full-forward, certainly on figures, with a goals-per- game average of 5.59. Strong-bodied, with tremendous judgement and an accurate kick, Hudson topped 100 goals five times, won two best-and-fairest awards, played in the 1971 flag and recovered from serious knee injury to kick 100 a final time in 1977 at age 31.

IAN STEWART
(St Kilda 1963-70, 127 games; Richmond, 1971-75, 78 games)
A three-time Brownlow medallist and AFL Hall of Fame Legend. Stewart was renowned for his marking while backing into packs. He had exceptional skills to spot his teammates in battle and predict their movements, executing perfect foot passes. He played in premiership sides at both clubs.

Over the next week or so, they are also refining the list to give us the Top 10 greatest players of the game.

So far they are:

10. Bobby Skilton
9. Tony Lockett
8. Ian Stewart (Link)
7. Gary Ablett
6. John Coleman
5. Polly Farmer
4. ??????????
3. ??????????
2. ??????????
1. ??????????

Good to see Ian Stewart at #8. Interesting to see if any of the other three make it into the Top 4.

Article in the Mercury about Alex Gilmour who has apparantly gone AWOL from the Devils. Hasn't surfaced since round 11 and isn't returning the Mercurys calls. Evidently his nickname is 'Rat' and there is quite an apt comment on the site about rats deserting sinking ships. Anyone know any more about it?

Heard reports he is in England with a certain ex-Tasmanian netballer swimming in $100 notes.

Whats the latest news with Cresswell is he still in London - any sightings in tassie of him?

How about the selection of Zane Muphey playing for the devils this week from the Burnie Dockers. Has not played for 7 weeks after holding out for a clearance from Wynyard. How bad is our VFL side going?

The reason he is playing along with Taylor from Burnie and Sheehan from Devonport is that the Mariners have to have a spell before their practice match next week v the tassy super rules team at North Hobart. It could only happen in Tasmania.

Please tell me you are not serious??

Granted there are some champions of yesteryear in the Supers team but this match would be an out and out joke!

Tips for the weekend with my thoughts attached:

SFL Premier League Round 12
Kingborough v North Hobart at Kingston Beach (North Hobart by 46)
The Demons are in red hot form and leading into the break they sit as the alternative premier to Glenorchy for the premiership race. Kingborough on the other hand will be buoyed by their win against Brighton, but North are much tougher than the Robins outfit. At home Kingborough have improved in competitiveness but the Demons have too much for the Tigers to curtail and will continue with a easy win.

Lauderdale v New Norfolk at Lauderdale (Lauderdale by 29)
There are some yips in the Bombers campaign, that came to the fore last start against Glenorchy and they had a massive scare against Brighton before falling in the door. They now face New Norfolk who will take some momentum from their second half showing against the Roo's, but will need to improve on their awful starts, because you can't concede nine goals in the first half to anyone, especially when you are fighting for a finals spot. Should the Bomber's sneak in here, they'll all but have a hand on fifth spot but if they lose, there will be nervous times ahead as they'll face North Hobart (A), Clarence (H) and Kingborough (H) in their next three weeks.

Brighton v Clarence at Pontville (Clarence by 120)
Clarence got into their groove at Boyer with a strong first half to get the points, while the Robins are looking for their first win since Round 1 and unless they can get physical and exert around the ground pressure, they won't stand much of a chance against the Roos who are fine tuning for another September tilt.

Hobart v Glenorchy at TCA (Glenorchy by 7)
These are the games that Hobart needs to win to be a force in September, the games against the Glenorchy's and North Hobart's and Clarence's, which they have failed to do quite often. Glenorchy have found the TCA as a bit of a bogey ground, as they always seem to struggle, with either a narrow loss or a narrow win the margin. A Glenorchy win will almost ensure top spot, while Hobart will need a win to move into double chance territory. The visitors should break their bogey and win a tight one.

SFL Regional League Round 13
Claremont v Lindisfarne at Abbotsfield Park (Lindisfarne by 28)
The Two Blues are on a roll with 12 straight wins on the board and it looks like noone can stop them, or can they? Claremont at Claremont is now the toughest road trip for any opponent and over the last couple of seasons they have produced a few high scalps. Lindisfarne will need to be wary of the Mounties on their hill, otherwise they will be leaving with their first loss of 2008, but they look to have too much for Claremont to contain.

Central Hawks v Sorell at Bothwell (Hawks by 8)
This is it for the Hawks, win and they stay in the mix, lose and they forget about finals. That's the simple part about the latter end of the season, but the stakes will get a whole lot bigger and for Sorell, they can't afford to go out of Bothwell with a loss either, as they need to move back into the five to keep pace with Huonville and Kermandie. Hawks to win just with home ground advantage.

Cygnet v Dodges Ferry at Port Park (Dodges by 72)
Put simply into words, Cygnet's season has been a shocker! To win just 2 games from 13 when they were on the verge of finals football last season will certainly cause the Port coaching staff to do some sole searching in the post season, while Dodges are flying on all cylinders and only need to win 2 of their remaining 5 games for the year to seal their finals spot. The Sharks will circle for prey at the Port and give them another mauling to digest.

Channel v Huonville at Snug Park (Huonville by 190)
Huonville will look to a percentage boost and what a perfect opportunity to get that against a Channel side that will want 2008 to end quickly. Not much to say here other than the Lions to win and win very well.

Triabunna v Kermandie at The Bunna (Kermandie by 62)
Kermandie's finals hopes lie simply in their hands, because over the next four weeks following this game it will have Sorell, Claremont, Central Hawks and Lindisfarne, all virtually in the finals picture (with Lindisfarne the clear flag favourite at this stage). All Todd Pepper will hope for is to get the game over and done with at the Bunna and bring on the next four matches. Triabunna while they have impressed this season did go back into old habits in the first quarter against the Hawks and will want to try and avoid a repeat of that and get back into the form that defeated Sorell a month ago. The Robins have too much to play for and will get the chocolates!

NTFL Round 14
East Devonport v Latrobe at Girdlestone Park (Latrobe by 56)
Latrobe are in reach of finals action again and they have East Devonport who are second last, but showing signs of a big scalp in the not too distant future, provided they can string together consistency for four quarters. Latrobe looking good to warm up for finals and record another win in quest of that goal.

Launceston v Devonport at Windsor Park (Launceston by 110)
Launceston are pretty good aren't they?? They aren't a bad side at Windsor Park at all?? I mean, they play at half pace and win by 10 goals sometimes and put the cruise control on and get a 200 point win on a struggling Wynyard, and don't they have a Adam Derbyshire at full forward too that's kicked 106 goals?? They do, yeah and he wasn't too bad last week in the rep match with 6.5 either.
Devonport, well, might have to be prepared to swallow their medicine and cop any blows that come their way, because other than Crowden up forward, who's going to kick a winning score?? Launceston easy winners!

Penguin v North L'ton at Pirtek Oval (North by 150)
Only going for North by this margin as I'm sick and tired of reading David Law's comments on Sunday after a loss and he whines about their "youth" and "inexperience" and "lack of depth". Well David, look at South L'ton, who have a similar list agewise and look where they are on the table?? Strangely they sit in the finals picture don't they?? North who went out of the five after their loss to the Robins, will need a strong win to get back into the picture otherwise they could find themselves in a bit of a trouble spot, but against Penguin, there'll be no problem!

Smithton v Burnie at Smithton (Burnie by 81)
Not a game that the home side will be looking forward to, especially after their belting that occured at Youngtown at the hands of South L'ton, and kept to just 4 goals will give Lyle Elliott a lot of cause for concern. Meanwhile Burnie are sailing onwards for a home final against the Robins and with Ulverstone having the week off, they should even without their Mariners in the side, be able to get the winning score and win easliy!

Wynyard v South L'ton at Austin Street (South by 175)
It could be another tough day at the office for Nathan Hunt, as after a 200 point belting at Fortress Windsor, they now host South L'ton, buoyed by their 10 goal thrashing of fellow finals aspirant Smithton, will be licking their lips at dining on pussy cat. If anyone has seen the movie "Cats and Dogs", then this match will resemble something similar to the movie, except the Dog will win!
Bye - Ulverstone

NTFA Division One Round 12
Deloraine v Longford at The Racecourse (Longford by 38)
- Deloraine are running out of chances to get back into the final five mix and need to pluck an upset to get back into contention. Longford are fresh from the break, and should wear down any Deloraine challenge.

Hillwood v Scottsdale at Hillwood (Scottsdale by 116)
- The Pies are flying and the big win against Bridgenorth will give them confidence to get further, Hillwood will have to prepare for another barrage.

Bracknell v Bridgenorth at Redleg Hill (Bracknell by 73)
- Bracknell can end Bridgenorth's finals hope with a big win, and should do that at the Hill, where they have claimed Longford and Rocherlea in the last two home games.

George Town v Rocherlea at Blue Gum Park (George Town by 22)
- The Saints will want to avenge a shock home defeat against Bracknell, and Rocherlea will need a win to maintain a top three hope.

NTFA Division Two Round 12
Fingal v Old Scotch at The Valley (Fingal by 7)
- A tough game for Old Scotch to face up to, especially with a Fingal side fired up after a shock loss at Perth last start. Old Scotch's premiership credentials will be put to the test here and if they can put a win on the board at Fingal, they will be outright favourites for the title.

Perth v Tamar Cats at Perth (Perth by 11)
- Perth will be bouyed by the result against Fingal, and will go into the match against Tamar as favourites. Tamar will need to be on their mettle and might be suffering a bit of complacency after their big win against Uni.

St Pats v OL's at The Beach (St Pats by 150)
- Could be another horror game for OL's, St Pats raging back into form and will continue that here.

Uni-Mowbray v Evandale at The Campus (Evandale by 22)
- Uni again under strength this week which is what they don't need with a big game against Evandale, the visiting Eagles to go to sixth with the win.

SFL Regional League Round 13
Claremont v Lindisfarne at Abbotsfield Park (Lindisfarne by 28)
The Two Blues are on a roll with 12 straight wins on the board and it looks like noone can stop them, or can they? Lindisfarne will need to be wary of the Mounties on their hill, otherwise they will be leaving with their first loss of 2008, but they look to have too much for Claremont to contain.

A freak? A clown more like it!

I would have thought a trip to Anzac Park would now be the toughest assignment for any SFL club wouldn't it?

And what's this "Mounties" bullshit?

Poor form 07. You're usually quite thorough.

Barge, Mounties/Claremont...that's where it came from.
And also, thought I'd share this with you, this year your mob are 6-0 at home this season, Claremont would be close to a 12 game undefeated run at home, or there abouts?? If I have a closer look at the stats from the last three seasons, Claremont would have the best home record of the lot...when I find it I'll post it on here...

Oh speaking of poor form, couldn't resist having a look at the sportingpulse website and what did I manage to find in the Sorell/Claremont Regional League Seniors game (Claremont 9.4-58 def Sorell 8.4-52)
http://www.sportingpulse.com/round_info.cgi?a=MATCH&fixture=32777007&c=1-3049-0-65050-0&pool=-1

I thought the final score was Sorell 14.12-96 to Claremont 11.15-81...??

Good to see blunders being made which could prove important come the end of the year!!!

Hobart will be wearing their proper Tiger uniform in the Seniors as well :thumbsu:
So it will be the first match I've watched them play in three years, only the third since the 2003 Grand Final.
Got my Tiger scarf dusted off and ready for the match

Last time Hobart wore their traditional jumpers in a match it was the HFC's 60th Anniversary Commemoration match on 14 May 2005 at the TCA Ground.
Glenorchy won a poor game by 39-points that day.

Damn...so many great pussy one liners to be had, but I'd look crude and uncouth...even more so...

Go Doggies. F### those pussies...
