I've got a feeling that the Giants will try to bundle pick #2 with pick #11 (if they somehow get it) to try and prise an A grader away from another club. I don't think they're being greedy, they're just trying to increase their trading clout, as pick #1 and pick #2 on their own don't seem to interest other clubs much.
Pick 1 which gets Tom Boyd 'won't interest other clubs' as a trade for an A grader?! Bullshit!

That post sums up GWS trading.

We shouldn't be selling the farm for a kid who doesn't want to nominate us as his only club of choice. We have given Adams and GWS both appealing offers, yet he still hasn't said "I only want to go to Collingwood".

Do the West Coast deal and if we don't get Adams then that's his loss.

Totally agree, adams not declaring us the club he wants to go to has annoyed me. Pull the deal off the table, get picks from WC and move on. Gives us 6 and 10 in the draft. We can turn shaw around, massive wake up call for him and he is a better player than adams anyway.

Bontempelli , freeman or acres will suit me just fine

Why exactly is Adams not nominating us, a problem? What is wrong with him wanting to go to the team that gets the best deal done for his current team? How does this suddenly make him "not a good player" and "lacks leadership".

Doesn't 'nominate' us = Average player, Shaw is better.
Nominates us = Next Luke Ball, lulcuya Shaw.

Him nominating us or not has no baring on his standing as a player. I hope we do get him, and personally think we will. But this nonsense of him not nominating us as an issue is ridiculous. He will go to the club that can satisfy his current club. Just because GWS don't see a straight swap with Shaw as fair, does not reflect on him at all.

I am also annoyed that Adams hasn't solely nominated us. It has put us on the back foot and emboldened GWS to bargain like a pack of tight-arsed weasels & wasted 2-3 weeks of my life anxiously monitoring trade updates that I will never get back.

But to look at it another way, the posters on the Geelong board were quite simply stunned to the point of speechlessness that he had not solely nominated them. I think they were operating from a number of assumptions - Geelong always love their own, it's Caddy II the sequel, we are the greatest team of all etc.

The whisper from one poster was that he had actually chosen Collingwood as his 'primary' choice because of $. I suspect also his connection with Buckley and the fact that we presented very strongly to him from the get go were factors, along with the suggestion he wanted to live in Melbourne. If this speculation was accurate then for whatever reason his number 1 'choice' was not made public either to afford GWS maximum leverage at the trade table or as a form of respect to his Geelong connections or maybe he genuinely is split between us and the Cats. Whatever the case I think it was an unusually difficult call for him to make where he had to weigh up a number of complex loyalties and considerations. It might not be a reflection of his lack of character or decisiveness or anything like that. Having said all that, if he ends up at Geelong I will be f .... pissed off. !

Or maybe he wants one of these.

I'm sure you will WW - having gone to the trouble of changing your avatar and all ;)

Fair call YOC! I'm normally much more cautious than this (after seeing 7 losing Grand Finals) and got a bit carried away when Shaw nominated GWS. There's a good chance I might have to change it back next week. I tell you what, if he ends up at Geelong you can have my avatar. That's for being a good bloke.

Thanks mate. I reckon us older Cats fans have had a similar experience over the years to you "seasoned" Pies supporters - I went to all 4 losing GF's from '89 and thought I'd never see a winning one in my lifetime. I understand your pessimism.

Btw I'm pretty sure you'll still get to keep that avatar.

Doesnt matter if adams nominates us as his club or not, shaw is still the better player.

Him not being assertive about where he wants to go has somehow given GWS the belief they hav the power in this, hasnt helped the situation i believe. To me its coming across that hes not too fussed where he plays next year, be it pies, cats or giants. Better off controlling what we can, exchange picks with WC and get white deal done.

Cheers YOC. That's why (despite 2011) I will never really hate you blokes!

Exactly. ****ing pratishness for him to do otherwise IMO.

As noted The Age have declared the various draft section trades with WC, Sidanee & "us" as a done deal"

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/magpies-gain-white-and-pick-no-6-20131019-2vtyl.html.

As was said in Alice In Wonderland:

Things just get curiouser & curiouser.

Love to be a fly on the wall in the dealings between Collingwood & GWS next week re Heater, Adams & other related combinations & permutations.

"We" can control the controllables (did what "we" could do so far & dare I speak more weasel words "Placed ourselves at best advantage") now to manage the rest.

Should be fun seeing how Hine + Rendell manage things from here.
Love the Nametag there WPT....Ricky Watt was a lovely left footer, Colin Tully often won the VFL super kick and "Bubba" Price used to hit Peter McKenna lace out with those magical short passes on the run. Ahhhh memory lane.

GWS need these experience players the kids will only do so much Shaw will be great for the club

Just do the deal no deal is ever 50/50 fair it's a win win for both clubs

Oh Yeah! Pricey and his worm burner, guided missile stab passes, Macca must have had permanent bruises on his chest ;)

That's how it's done!

Our second (31) and third pick (44) off the table now so GWS will have to decide if they want a straight swap of Shaw for Adams or Shaw plus Sydney's 3rd (49) lickety split. There's two options left now so get on the bike.

Sent the clearest possible message that we'll not be f*cked with. GWS could conceivably have gotten Shaw plus pick 44 for Adams if they acted earlier, now they've slipped to 49. GWS may lose that option as well and only have a straight swap option.

If they don't concede to either then we have the option of retaining Shaw (which personally is where I'd stop) or shipping Shaw off to Geelong for pick 16 which is infinitely better than the GWS fantasy of swapping pick 10 for what has now become pick 21. We'll not be trading down pick 6 or 10 so any fantasies involving Port or anyone else are in cloud cuckoo land.

And if for some reason Shaw went to Geelong, that in no way helps GWS to attract anyone. In fact it would act as the pretext for a sleight and make it easier to encourage Adams to enter the PSD and pop a price on his head. But whichever way GWS turn there will be one-way traffic exiting their club.

The AFL wont abide it. GWS know the jig is up. Should have pressed for Shaw and our 3rd when they had the opportunity.

Yeah Spicey finestkind, bad ass trading from Hine and Co. They dicked us around now they can either grab their ankles or take a walk ;)

We traded our 3rd and 4th rounders out on Friday, so it doesn't look like there was anything doing there in terms of swaps/upgrades/downgrades. GWS is only going 4 picks deep at 1, 2, 21, 22.

Well kiddo you have it laid out nice and neat now - we ain't dancing to anyones tune but our own. Either dance to our beat or get off the dance floor, coz with pick 6 and 11 there's plenty of other fish in the ocean.

What you traded out is neither here nor there.

You had a very clean option of Adams for Shaw and pick 49. That's a crisp and very neat little trade there but you dicked it. Now there are really two options if you want Shaw, which you do, and that's Shaw and 49 for Adams or a straight swap.

I'd be pressing for the former.

Beg my pardon. I've just read that article again and Collingwood's 3rd round pick 49 is gone. Messed up the trades numbers too. Haste makes waste kids, let that be a lesson.

So the choice is much clearer now, straight swap or nothing.
