It's a good question because it takes it to an argument of experience and exposed form v potential (the debate on worth between Shaw and Adams). In which case, to hazard a guess you'd probably have him anywhere between 6 and 13? His size and skill set make him less attractive than some of the really versatile options emerging in the draft. He may not rate as highly as some of the elite smaller ball winners being touted. Knightmare would put him behind Crouch as a pure inside mid. For all that you'd put him somewhere around the ten mark I'd guess.

I wonder if Shaw was off the table whether you guys would now be still entertaining a trade for Adams? It is obviously a neatish fit to have 2 players that are prepared to play for each others clubs but if their respective values don't marry up then things obviously get a lot more complicated.

It's interesting that GWS are now looking at bringing Josh Hunt into their club. Is he being seen as a addition to Shaw or is he seen as an alternative now?

Apart from Wingard picks 6 and 10 are mostly cursed Jonbe. :)
Lol KJ curses only apply to the superstitious - as the great Peter Daicos said in reply to Jack Dyers assertion that his dribble kicks for goal were mostly luck "The harder I work at it, they luckier I get".

Same with 6 and 10 - the usual impeccable background work from Hine & Co is enough to overcome any curse known to man - or beast ;)

GWS offered shaw a 5 year contract so they obviously see Shaw as being part of their first premiership team at HB (if they get that far in 3-4 years time), whilst hunt at best has 1 year left so he is not a replacement.

I think if shaw was off the table we would be offering O'Brien or pick 11 for adams and hope to get it done that way

GWS are thrashing around looking for an alternative to looking like a bunch of dicks over screwing up the Shaw trade ;)

Couldn't trade their way out of a WET brown paper bag.

I'd have thought Josh Hunt would play a few games and provide more of a development and mentor role than anything. Doesn't have too much quality football left in him IMO, whereas Shaw should have at least 3 ~ 4 years. If they don't get Shaw then Hunt will be somewhat of a consolation in the immediate future, however if they don't get Shaw it could force serious repercussions down the line for SOS and the rest of recruitment after the failure that they've had the last few years.

So no one would deem him valuable enough to pick him before we do at some pick in the 30's?
I'd suggest if he's headed for the ND Geelong wont be taking Shaw in trade week they'll pick Adams instead.

I cannot see any possible scenario that's not fanciful where he would get to us in a draft.
Won't need to anyway I'd suggest GWS and the Pies will do the trade one day soon ;)

That is why we would need to trade Shaw to Geelong before this week is out. Because Adams can't put himself forward into the draft until the week is out.

So how much of a premium do we place on the extra couple of years of development he has? There appear to be other options around #10 with more potential and better physical attributes such as height/size/skill etc..

The way I see it (treestump and YOC) we are a bit behind the eight ball in finding a Luke Ball replacement. It really should have been accomplished 2 years ago but we havent had the right chips at the draft or trade table to get it done. Various speculative prospects have been tried without any real success. Our midfield tends to get physically bullied especially when Ball/Beams are out for sustained periods. Adams is a bullish player, although on the short side he is very strong through the body and attacks the contest ferociously. His age profile is perfect ie we don't have to wait 2 years of development. Those are the attractions. otherwise, yes other great options available in the draft.

I should have described Hunt as a possible "stop gap" rather than a replacement.

It seems in any case it's either Shaw for Adams (straight swap) or nothing now that you have traded away your lower picks.

After telling all of australia "shaw has joined us on a 5 year contract" i expect their will be a lot of pressure coming from the top of GWS (who take positive/negative PR very seriously) and even the AFL to get this deal done.

They were posturing for a better deal with a week to go in trade week, however once the deadline approaches it's obvious the deal will go through.

Preaching to the converted mate :thumbsu:

Good point. I doubt we'd be looking at Adams if Shaw wasn't involved. Swapping the two players is a nice neat solution for both clubs, even if their respective values are not quite equal. It looked like efforts were made last week to offer sweeteners with later picks but these options are obviously off the table now.

At the end of the day the swap is still a win/win for both clubs. Come the start of next season, I doubt anybody will remember any steak knives or later picks which may or may not have been part of this deal.

That was the idea yotc - they traded out their mid range pick - in effect saying we won't swap our mid range with you, so we traded out our lower pick and one of our first round for White and a higher first round.

In effect they tried to back us into a corner and only succeded in getting themselves there - Adams is a nice fit but FAR from the only fit - especially with 6 and 10 to play with.

They NEED Heater, just as much for the credibility of their trading processes as the undoubted experience he will bring and we don't NEED Adams.

Balls in their court, they can ante up or piss off.

Only two pick 6's have reached 100 games this century, Kepler Bradley leads with 121 from Salopek o_O

Gary Rohan from 2009 is hardly a flop - Has just had horrendous luck with injuries. '

Reece Conca from 2010, Chad Wingard from 2011 and Jackson Macrae from 2012 all look like they're on track to have pretty strong careers.

You can go back further if you'd like, but the last few years have proven that it's possible to get quality at pick #6.

Think of a happy place, think of a happy place, think of a happy place, think of a happy place...
Top of the Southern stand 10 minutes to go of the 1990 GF and the strain and pain of 26 years of unrequited barracking are finally going to end.

Essendon are shot, there's no way even we can blow this one, I turn to my sister to see a smile about 2 faces wide on her face then down at my 6 year old son at his first GF who is so excited he's about to float away.

THAT is my happy place:):rainbow::)

Wait, you're applying logic to the discussion?
Just who do you think you are, sir? :p

That image may leave me with a smile for the rest of the day!

BTW, speaking of smiling: have you all seen this Burnsy/Bucks article yet?
