He could be managing a groin as he looked to be struggling to cover the ground. His decision making was very poor as well unfortunately.I remember one passage of play when he had WHE running along side him for an eternity, waiting for a handball, then he finally gave him the ball too late, and WHE was crunched by Carlton players as soon as he got the ball.

Wouldn't be surprised. Last couple weeks he either missed the earlier session, or didn't complete it all. Like last Wed, he was there but didn't do a whole lot to the point I didn't realise he was there. Didn't do the match sim that day.
The week before, he missed the earlier wed session as a whole.

If his groin is ok I’d like for him to play max minutes in the middle over the next two weeks. Given the opposition, he may find some good touch getting back to what he does best.

I’m going to walk my take out of the game back a little. I’m not sure how many were listening to SEN just then, but Rance spoke of exactly what Cotchin was doing in that Richmond mix at their peak and the word he used was dampener. Positioning and buffering are not actions that are immediately measurable on the outside I imagine though that the inside rate it very highly. Having a guy do that stuff which allows the likes of JDG, Crisp, Naicos, Moore, Murphy and IQ do what they do is just as valuable as the impact ball in hand.

FWIW sr36 I’m still 100% committed to my take on squad rotation and what his errors meant about his game on Sunday. Listening to that discussion though helped me understand better that he could make those same errors for the next 12 weeks and as long as he keeps doing the other stuff he’ll remain in the best 23 because we’ll continue to win. There’s a bit of a narrative building on here of Lipinski taking his spot when he returns. Not gonna happen!

Lastly FFS quit the injury talk. Our position is the envy of the competition we’re not letting anyone push through with an injury.

It's not going to be popular on here, but depending on who gets injured before or after, Lippa will come into the 23 for Ginnivan. A marking defender for Markov gets the tall balance right, than it's the difficult task of weighing up which of the talls to play and which to leave out.

Hope we do get one, but there is every chance we will never get to The Great Player Purge of 2023.

Given the likes of Frampton, McStay, Lippa and Howe likely won't be back until after the bye(maybe Frampton before), there is every chance new injuries will make the decisions for us.

Yep. Particularly talls. Our style asks a lot of them physically. We've had a really good run with our mids and flankers though - hopefully that continues and we see some blokes get dropped. Really pissed me off that no one gets dragged anymore. It's all bloody rotations

I agree. I’m torn on Ginnivan because I do rate him, but I think he’s done himself a disservice this year and it’ll cost him his place in the best 23 pending the health of others around him.

I’m surprised by your take on Markov and I’m not quite there with it because I think he’s another playing a role that’s valued, but reading the tea leaves around the other roles and McRae’s language it makes sense. That said I think we’ve found our Howe replacement there (whether I like it or not). Cox/ Frampton/ McStay/ Johnson/ Cameron/ Howe seem to be slugging it out for 4 spots and I hope they can all stay fit so we can see McRae’s vision. Adams though will be a keeper.

I like the pace Markov gives, but essentially think he's playing Bruzzys role, with Bruzzy playing taller. We improve in both areas with Howe/Frampton doing the aerial stuff and Bruzzy taking over from Markov.

I rate Ginni too. Just can't bring the heat that the others can, not the line breaking dash. Linking is the really untapped area he needs to work on.

Yep not nearly enough public humiliation either. All this positivity and throwing our arms around players when they’ve made errors… aside from a game clear on top, where has it gotten us?

Tay had zero tackles against the blues which is very concerning given his offensive game was terrible, his defensive side didn't look much better.

Seems a though he can have a rest and Macrae and Carmichael deserve a chance.

I think fly pulls the trigger on either macrae or Carmichael this week, given our ladder position and their form in the magoos

Mitchell coming in and freeing up Adams to play that support role whilst also being a gun midfielder himself is a big reason why our midfield has transformed from close to league worst to close to league beat. So whilst as much as I don’t like the mistakes he made I can accept he’ll stay to keep the structure.

There’s also a narrative where some of our older players will get dropped like they did in 2010. But that ignores all our older players this season are playing a key role in a successful side. In 2010 when our older players were playing our form was still hit or miss.

Ryan is the guy destined to replace Howe in the defensive group imho. Was unlucky to get injured around the time Markov got promoted because his form was way above Markov’s who’d only just returned from injury himself.

I'm going to be fuming if we rest players - rather than dropping them. The whole world went to shit when we started giving a ****ing gift for each layer of pass the parcel.

Exactly. Each layer unwrapped without a prize inside should be accompanied by a punch in the face. We can’t tolerate failure on that level or it becomes endemic.

Just wish he’d give first option more often, sometimes he takes on one too many and either fluffs it or gets done htb.

Thats one of the big differences in Mitchell’s game and Adams.
Perhaps he is trying to imitate Pendlebury, who holds onto it for what appears too long before finding the perfect pass. Adams is a thinker but doesnt have the best footy smarts in my opinion. He tries to do too much.

Adams and the term thinker shouldn’t appear in the same sentence. He might think he is a Patek Philipe, but unfortunately he is just a tightly wound torsion spring toy.
