i dont agree with article. Too many small bodies getting smashed each week.

Yeah, like we're going to trade our only reliable defender (sorry Suban/Broughton) this year for a magic bean. With McPharlin and Grover severly out of form and no-one left in the stables, we'd be stuffed next year.

Gary Lyon should be writing articles about his own club before focussing on ours.

He goes on about how Taz has played then suggests;

Taz + pick 20 = Pick 12. Huh

Thats not a great gain.

I wouldn't trade him unless we got severely over the odds. He's holding down our defence at the moment.

Keep him. Bolster the midfield and put Pav back in the forward line. We could be in the top 8 by next year.

Garry has a point in theory but it's just not plausible at the moment.
While we aren't a premiership contender now we still want to TRY and be competitive and without Pav and Taz we won't be competitive at all.
Pav stays no matter what, unless he asks to be traded.
Taz stays unless the deal is to good to refuse.

It's pretty obvious that he hasn't given any serious thought to what's in it for us, only how good it would be for a Victorian club to get hold of Tarrant.

Tarrant + pick 20 = pick 12 is just garbage. Tarrant = pick 12 I'd consider, if the club is really keen to get hold of more draft picks OR Tarrant really wants to go back to Vic. Actually, pick 12 might be a overvaluing him a bit now I think about it. He is pretty important to our chances of winning games over the next year or two, and I think that makes it worth putting a premium on him in any trade.

Another good example of the media making headlines without thinking it through. I don't mind Garry Lyon in general, but he is not the smartest man - a good footballer is not necessarily that.

What dissapoints me is that guys like Walls, who don't even appear to watch all the games each week, make sensational claims like these - and eventually no-one listens to them.

Play a straight bat Garry and we'll love you for your commentary and plausible ideas.

The one thing he has right is that we need to be agressive and innovative to bring FFC back... the thing is we are?!?!?
- taking / tanking on 14 players (potentially 2*PPicks to come)
- delisting duds
- giving middle tier a crack / tank
- setting up oldies to play roles for next 3-4 years (except Pav who could be a great Lynch like FFwd in latter years)

Garry himself has said there is a need for senior players leadership, consistency and protection - we are down to the last few.

The next draft may have a large number of WA boys, but is not deep. The top 8 are apparantly the only ones of note.

Garry, pick 12?? Really? We should monitor who plays longer, pick 12, 20 and Taz...

No Deal

God this guy is a muppet. A best and fairest winner for the season for a upgrade of 8 selections. I wouldnt even trade pick 20 and Ash Hansen for pick 12, maybe pick 20 and Seaby for pick 12 and thats only because he wants to leave

Well, they are running out of material for Freo sledging. It's been 3 years now since we last traded picks for players. They would love that to happen so they can continue their crusade. Times have changed. He better pray and hope that Schwabby and Cuddly don't get hold of Melbourne's picks, otherwise it will be a pick bonanza at the end of the year. David Mundy [CC's lovechild] for pick 1? Don't discount it.

Ignoring the insane trade suggestion (Tarrant is in line for a AA position down back).

I think the point has legs, with Solly a 50/50 of retiring at the end of the year there is every chance the guy will want to go home anyway.

Our club would be weaker without Tarrant, but let's face it he's not going to get us into the finals and by the time we do make it he will be past it.

The club doesn't owe him anything either (Unlike Pavlich), so I think it should be examined.

The problem is draft picks will have inflated prices attached to them (Even more so) so we will struggle to get his full value.

I wanted to trade McPharlin at the end of last year. Still do, but his value would have dropped significantly after this season.

So the guy is up with Presti, Lake and Scarlett as the best FB in the comp and we should should trade him for a pick upgrade? Now that he's finally paying some dividend?
Suck my nana Garry.
1st rounder or nothing.

From a Hawthorn perspective, i'd love to get Tarrant (never thought I'd say that) as it completes an important part of the puzzle for us. An dI would be prepared to offer a high pick.

Lyon makes a good point, Tarrant doesn't seem to me to be a 'leader' as such, seems very quiet and reserved. Pavlich is a lot different. If you were able to trade guy like Tarrant and get a good draft pick, then it would suit what you guys are looking to do, and that's build a side for a flag tilt in probably 3-5 years.

You'd save on Wages, in an apparent shallow draft you'd get 2 top 15 picks, and wouldn't lose a great deal in leadership. Who knows, by taking a guy like Tarrant out, if he is a leader, it may force guys like Suban, Palmer etc to step up. Might bring them on earlier.

Just my thoughts

our biggest problem with the salary cap atm would be how to fill it up, no doubt why all our players were "re-signing" last year even though they still had 2 years left on their contracts

I think by the end of next year, he would have almost lost his key attribute, and advantage. This is his speed, and closing speed. At the end of next year, he will be 30, and turning 31 the following year. I doubt that he will he be able to maintain his major advantage over other forwards.

With that being said i don't think any club will be willing to offer what he is worth. Next year, if playing in a Victorian, finals contending team, he could easily be the AA FB of the comp. He is worth more like pick 12 for our 3rd rounder or even our 4th rounder.

Although i cannot see this happening. So no deal.

People in this thread are concentrating too much on what Lyon has suggested as the trade ie pick 20 or whatever.

Its more about someone taking a chance and thinking outside the square, clubs have become very conservative in trading away good players, but with the advent of two new teams and the compromised draft the landscape has changed. We will look back at this period of the game in a few years time and admire a club that was willing to tread a different path to achieve success.

Disagree. Looks like the type of sprinter that will peak between 32-34.

Unfortunately we have been the club that 'does things differently' for 15 years.

Tazza is just playing with so much more confidence now than when he started with us. His body language has been great and hes kind of 'slipped off the radar' being in Perth and not Melbourne i think.

Hes footy has been great and when it comes down to it what do we pay for every week to watch??!?!

Do not trade!
