Please, will people please stop pumping up Des's tyres !!!!. He aint dominating at WAFL level, and people like Bollenhagen have passed him.

Rubbish, absolute rubbish. No way is Bollenhagen ahead of Des.

I follow Perth in the WAFL so i've seen a fair bit of Bollenhagen. He doesn't get a lot of the ball but is an opportunist but i would have Headland ahead of him due to his experience and having a much more mature and stronger body, particularly in finals. The question mark with Des is injuries, so he's a risk.

Not withstanding injuries we don't know about yet i reckon the following:

In:
Crowley, Bradley, Silvagni, Headland

Out:
Suban, Haselby, Roberton, Walters

Better balance for mine against Hawks. Bradley can play FWD backup ruck and leave Johnson to be a swing player. Crowley can take out Hodge. VanBerlo - Mitchel. If Headland is right and got through the game he offers more as a defensive FWD than walters. Snos needed as a 3rd tall to allow a rotation of McPharlin and Grover on Buddy and roughy.

We need an injection of experience in this sudden death final, can't keep carrying heaps of 1st and 2nd year players and expect to keep going...

Most important thing is that they start putting their bodies on the line. We have some depth again, now injuries are under control so unless people through themselves into the contest, i don't reckon they should be guaranteed a game.
Tough on Haz but he is the ultimate club man and is not right so i'm sure he'd rather see club success than bomb out of finals in the first week. He may get a recall after a freshen up anyway

With Ballantyne confirmed out i'd go with the following
In:
Crowley, Bradley, Silvagni, Headland

Out:
Ballantyne, Suban, Roberton, Walters

Haz to get a reprieve...

Why would you drop Suban? and Walters as a matter of fact?
They were two of our best a couple of weeks back against the Hawks.
Yes suban had a quiet game against the blues, but with Ballantyne out we are going to need a small forward but you go and drop Walters?
and no Headland is not a small forward.

For me Van Berlo has to go if Crowley comes back in. I thought van berlo was our worst against the blues

In: Silvagni, Crowley

Out: Ballantyne, Van Berlo

The real question is does Harvey stick with "the process" mantra he has been going with all year.

If so you dont drop players like Walters.

You certainly dont bring in players like Headland.

Ballantyne is an obvious out. Crowley is an obvious in.

Yes we have Keplar, Palmer, Des and Silvagni vying for a final. However i personally dont think any of them are a walk up start.

Des had stuff all of it in a game where his team scored over 200 on the weekend. I really think he will come back in but i wouldnt select him ahead of a kid.

Hase looks shot and as much as i love the guy and think it would be the worst way to go out i just hope he somehow trains the house down, because if not he's gone.

It may come down to match ups etc but Keplar and Crowley would be my ins.

Ballantyne and some unlucky sod would be my outs.

In: Crowley, Des, Snos
Out: Ballantyne, Walters, Roberton

Roberton will be a darn good player in the future, but he isn't in the best 22 yet. He needs some meat on his bones. Silvagni would be a better option down back. He is cooler under pressure and makes less mistakes.

Des has that X factor & his celebrations bring the crowd into the game. He has had 5 inside 50's for 2 weeks straight for Subi. His experience, goal assists and accurate kicking is of far better quality than the Walters option.

I can't see Palmer coming in for anyone sadly. A few have thrown around Van Berlo's name as a possible out for Palmer, but I think he's been one of our most important taggers this year. Palmer needs another pre-season to get back to where he was a couple of years ago.

Suban has not has as good a year as last year. Check the previous threads plenty of people are calling for Des ahead of walters. Walters is not big enough and is mainly operating as a marking target. He does not put enough fwd pressure on when the other side has the ball in its defense. Walters will be great for us, just think we need a bit more experience and Roberton, Suban and Walters are all unlucky

For people who want vanberlo out have another look at the game. He has a job to do and he does it -like de-boer

Crowley IN Ballantyne OUT - Obvious change and one that will almost certainly be made
Palmer IN Van Berlo OUT - I think we will need fresh Palmer run against Hawks.
Silvagni IN Roberton OUT (if Silvagni is not available bring in Kepler) - need a bigger body to help against Frankiln/Roughead

Walters stays in to take over Balla's position.

I reckon JVB could do a very good job on Mitchell who is not fast and a lot smaller than JVB.

Crowley IN is a no brainer for Ballantyne.

Palmer/Silvagni/Bradley/Headland IN for Haselby/Roberton

Not sure Roberton will be up to the physical stuff that the Hawks will dish out and Haselby looks shot, maybe he contributes more by doing a lap of honour..

Is Tarrant any chance at all to play this week? We really ****ing need him out there.

I think everyone needs to stop hoping for Taz in the series. With the extent of time off, limited training track sightings, he would be in no condition to front up in a demanding Final.

We need at least 3 weeks to get a prime Taz.

In: Crowley, Kep
Out: Balla, Roberton

Kep is a handy defensive/forward/ruck tall option who will be very handy should we need a taller player to support in the backline. He's had his rest, time to get back in the mix.

There is no coincidence the players that didn't travel to Tazzie looked fresh and strong. The 12 players that did go to Tazzie all looked a bit tired for the experience. This week they'll freshen up with the 8 day break.

Look for a stronger peformances next weekend from the likes of Walters, Suban and JVB if they are playing.

Des has the X factor alright, always did. He is fragile now, breaks down and would likely just leave us with one less rotation. He'll be an x player next year, and whilst we don't expect to go deep into September, we need to be giving these experiences to a younger player like Crighton or Bollenhagen, who's development next year will be all the better for the opportunity.

Haze, well what can I say, he deserves to go out in the 22. He is still a dead eye in the forward line and will still get under the packs. He's only 29, and unlike Des he picks himself up when he's injured to provide extra rotations. IMHO Haze would still have another serviceable year if he were not retiring. He should hold his place if not only for the fact that his accurate goal kicking can settle the team when the pressure is on.

Yeah I know, just really wishful thinking I suppose, you never know these days with injections and what not.

What Mick says:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Some crazy talk on the team selection!

Some observations:

1. Strive for minimal changes when going into finals.

2. Agree with the general consensus of Crowley for Frodo.

3. Kepp was mothballed at training last Monday and had light duties (little to no rucking) for West Perth this weekend. Knees looked shot and no confidence in front of goals.

4. In our last final (Sydney, 2006) we included a loyal, but slow favourite son of the club (Parker) and were ruthlessly punished for it. Just as Sydney directed all their attacking moves through whoever Fess was playing on, so too will the Hawks stage most of their counter-attacks via the defender assigned to Hase.

5. Hawks have two tall key forwards we'll need a tall third defender. Retain Roberton, like most I wish he had more games under his belt, but he gives us greater flexibility.

6. If there's a significant doubt going into a final as to the fitness or injury of a player then omit him. So no SNOS or Kepp.

Roberton whilst great decision maker and skills is too slow - Franklin and Rioli will leave him in their wake....

As I said, third man up, he would lend support to Grover and McPharlin the primary defenders for the Hawks' two talls in Franklin and Roughead.

Would expect Roger and Broughton (possibly stints from De Boer) will share the minding duties for Rioli.

In: Crowley, Tarrant (if available), Silvagni
Out: Ballantyne, Van Berlo, Hayden

If Tarrant isn't available, I guess Hayden has to keep his spot. For me, Hayden has been abysmal recently and we can't risk playing him again. His dreadful disposal proved very costly in the last quarter against Sydney (that out-on-the-full with no pressure on him which saw them take the lead) and was just as bad late in the game against Carlton. He's poor one-on-one defensively and I think it's time he went. Getting Van Berlo out of the team is definitely a higher priority though.

Contested ball is where we lack it seems. So Palmer in for me if his attitude is right.

...below from Tom Harley's twitter, in researching the Friday night match:
"Some #afldockersblues stats. In the last month Freo is ranked 16th in disposal differential and 14th on cont poss diff. Can't win the ball!
6:03 PM Aug 26th"
