stumbled across one at work today
Jorja, as in georgia...

Jorja sounds familiar though, it could be an unrelated eastern-european/russian name?

This thread is classic! God, there are some awful names out there.

Recently I transitioned gender, so had to get a name change. However, choosing a name for yourself as an adult is obviously different to choosing baby names. You have prior life experience, and also have passed the stage where cutesy child names work best. It helps that I liked my nicknames, and they were unisex nicks. You really just want something that is practical and works, plus suits your age group. On the other hand, other trans people may have had horrible childhoods, and want nothing to do with their old name. And a 60 something trans person using a very distinctly new name just looks dodgy as all hell.

However adult name changes can be just as guilty, or even worse, than parent offenders. There are some real shockers out there.

I knew a family who had children named Rayne, Cade, Daylan, (no clue) nicknamed Late, and Arie (pronounced R-E). Just aggresively different, screw spelling  Didnt help that the surname was long, ethnic and hard to spell too.
I've actually known a Trenton o_O

i looked at it as a spanish name and thought it was Jorge (hor-hay)
completely off the mark...
You were right. Just looked it up and it's a modern take on Georgia
I think Jorja Fox the CSI actress is what threw me off. Look it up on Behind the Name, in the comments section. Oh so much hate lol.

However, Georgia has that male-name-turned-female look about it, so Jorja will appeal more to some people as a more feminine-looking option.

Tell me more.

Normally, I only ever use that image in a sarcastic way, but I'm seriously fascinated by someone who has changed gender.

Really it's no biggie. It's made out to be something bigger than it is by non-trans folk, but the myths and misconceptions about it are quite uniformly widespread in society. Just have to have patience, because it takes years, but its entirely worth it, its just a matter of survival and trying to correct the incongruency between the differing sex of the brain and body. You get the odd redneck comment, but it's usually a product of their upbringing.

Thats just a basic understanding of how it works, and how it doesnt work. It's okay, occasionally someone has asked me because they themselves have actually been wondering if they were transgender themselves and material like this helped them to decide if they were or not.

Was Googling the subject and Rob Morrow (whoever the hell that is) named his kid "Tu"

People like this sicken me, making their kid's lives considerably harder just for an attention grab that no one really cares about

My wellingham name.
Chridence

Worst one if heard about his Shithead pronounced Shi-thead. Funniest I've seen was on a TV interview a few years back with a Tom Morrow the parents obviously didn't think that through.
