It's Modric's own fault then. If you're negotiating a contract but want to leave for a bigger club in the future, put a release clause in it, not some ****ing stupid gentlemens agreement.
In things like this I tend to always side with club over player. They are the first to want contract re-negotations when things are going well, but there would be all hell to pay if clubs wanted to re-negotiate the contract of someone that isn't performing.
And they want the security of a long term contract, but don't want to make the sacrifices that come with that security. When it comes down to it, players can have total freedom of movement in football, they can negotiate a six month rolling contract with a club and they are free to talk with who they want when they want.
And anyone who has a gentlemans agreement with Daniel Levy has no agreement with Daniel Levy.
and even with that agreement in place, why is Modric getting all upset because we rejected ****ing 22m? If I recall, he said if the club receives a concrete offer that benefits both parties, we'd consider it... Does selling our best player to a rival club for such a price benefit us? Absolutely not.
I think by saying that you won't sell regardless of the price, he can either accept the decision or make things as difficult as he can. Personally I think a club that says "not for sale at any price" is stupid, even if it is just a negotiating ploy.
