Brilliant idea from Garry there. Abandon any and all attempts to improve the list now, so we can put ourselves in a marginally better position to attract Whitfield next year. No doubt we'd still fall about $500k/year of any offers North or StKilda et al, would be able to make, but at least we'd try.

There would also be the added bonus of having to endure Lyon crap on all year next year about how we didn't do enough to fill the holes in the list

Lyon just talking to make news club would be enquiring about Whitfield already it’s up to us to make MFC an attractive destination.

Not sure about the Tomlinson hate on this board. Dude has only missed a few games for a side who has won finals like 4 years in a row or something.

He may not win the Brownlow but that shows me he is a solid role player which is something we need.

Can’t hold off signing anyone this year in hope of signing Whitfield next year.

Trade out players for cheap next year to create cap room if Whitfield wants to come to us or ask underperforming players to take pay cuts (AVB, KK)

Because, as I pointed out, he's the exact person who would spend significant time in the media next year bemoaning the fact the the club tried nothing this trade period to improve the team.

Of course we could use Whitfield, every team could use Whitfield, which is why I don't think not going getting Tomlinson this year, as good or bad as he may be, will make much of a difference to our chances of getting him, if he's coming to Melbourne, it's not because we're offering him the most money, it's because we're a team he can join, and be contending for a premiership.

Petracca and Viney are the only two big names OOC next year, why do we need an extra 1.2m for those two?

Richmond had Rance, Cotchin, Riewoldt, Martin, Edwards, got Prestia and then still had a million for Lynch but we can't afford anyone because we have Brayshaw and Tmac

Brayshaws had half a season of over rated good footy in his career.

The guy killed it last year and was the only mid we had capable of playing the half back role that was asked of him. He also came back underdone (as did Viney, Oliver, TMc) because the club was desperate not to field a team of pups. It ruined his year (and arguably Viney’s)

Half back role? What? He didn't play any good footy at half back and he came 6th in our best and fairest. If that's killing it then Harmes should be on 1.2 million and Oliver 7 Billion.
