Half back role? What? He didn't play any good footy at half back and he came 6th in our best and fairest. If that's killing it then Harmes should be on 1.2 million and Oliver 7 Billion.

Sorry, he was asked to play HB this year because we had no backs at all and he was the only one of our mids who could.

He was pretty bloody good. I think there's some fierce revisionism going on at the moment due to his crap year this year playing a number of roles.

Definitely.

Fickle bunch aren't we!

AVB looks confident, although so did KK
I was just reading that. A lot to go through from here, but a month or two worth of running without issue is great to hear. It'll be managed no doubt, but a full preseason from him would be amazing

The best part was watching him give Tyson the don’t argue for getting in his way.

Thought he flipping retired after the headline started with ‘after a challenging few years Vanders....’

You want revisionism? We were never a good side and TMac was never a good forward. Also Goody has never made any good coaching moves.

Brayshaw killed it last year? Why because he came 3rd in the brownlow? He had an ok year nobody was saying he was killing it during the season.
Everyone was saying that he was killing it in the second half of last season.

No one expected him to finish 3rd in the brownlow though

Honestly doing well in the Brownlow is the worst thing that could have happened to Gus, it’s just given his critics something else to throw at him which ironically has nothing to do with his shithouse 2019.

I don't think it's any coincidence that our glory run in late 2018 coincided with Vanders playing some of the best footy of his career. The guy is a real barometer for us, so much so that I think we should have a look at getting a Vandenberg lite from one of the state leagues. Bare minimum skill but built like a marine and takes out enemies like Liam Neeson in Taken. Always injured always has been always will be, so a replacement is crucial. There's gotta be other guys out there who play like him.

My favourite player hopefully gets a good run next year and reckon you are right he is a barometer his hard as **** tackles and bumps he is all walk no talk unlike these campaigners that keep putting videos out every week that they are all of a sudden gonna start trying really hard. Like get they **** outta here give me a few players who are already made that way.

Didnt realise Hamish Brayshaw hasnt signed up with the eagles yet. Not the player we need but i watched him in a final a few weeks ago and was pretty good

Agree. I can take the clangers from Vanders when he brings the physicality he did last year.

Yeah its fine cause you know he is going to create alot more turnovers the other way and campaigners arent gonna feel right after getting hit by him. Funny how most the midfield would be quicker than him but he is hungry to get that mother ****er with the ball while the others are in the not my job mentality oh ive done my part. Could you imagine if we actually had a Toby Greene in our team the amount of crying an infighting from these entitled pricks would be massive.

People are stupid if they think every club isn’t enquiring about a player like Whitfield.

You're right, people are stupid. Stupid people.

The guy killed it last year and was the only mid we had capable of playing the half back role that was asked of him. He also came back underdone (as did Viney, Oliver, TMc) because the club was desperate not to field a team of pups. It ruined his year (and arguably Viney’s)

If we're paying a midfielder overs because he can do a competent job on the half back flank, we're a worse run club than I thought.

Define overs. There seems to be this theory that Gus is in a lot of coin. He took massively reduced coin for a longer term, which was security given concussion issues.

Nah, he was good, but nothing brilliant. The Brownlow result was an absolute shock and while he certainly racked up some numbers in the second half of the year, he was hardly challenging the likes of Fyfe, Martin, Dangerfield, etc in winning games off his own boot. There was a game he knocked up 37 touches and 3 goals, but then he gets 3 Brownlow votes for a 26 possy, 1 goal game. Must have been slim pickings that week.

I'd reckon if you dug up our post-game votes, you wouldn't find people here rushing out to give him 10 points a week for his efforts last year.

Polled in 9 out of last 12 games on the 426 b&f count on here.

"More than they're worth".

Yes, but 9s and 10s or 6s / 7s? Bit of a difference, particularly given some of the shite that gets votes when we lose games and someone has to get points.
