Why is everyone on this board so desperate to screw over injured players lol. If we were a team in contention then sure but at this stage we should be trying to develop a culture of fairness and it’s not like you have to pay overs to do that. It’s just good list management. We can put out a good deal to Elliott that isn’t going to have him worrying over his financial security based on his body holding up over a certain number of games. We should be trying to sell him on other qualities of the club, not just money. Let’s not make him think we’re an attractive proposition and then hold him over a ransom if he decides we’re a good fit. Put in a fair deal for both parties or don’t bother IMO.

Isn't Martin on 1.2 or something like that. Even if Oliver's on 800 which is fair enough we still should he 400k to the the good
fair call.

My point was more around Oliver deserving a high salary rather than being on equal money to Martin

Really the only comparison I was trying to make was Richmond have premiership stars and we have mostly emerging players so how can they have had salary cap room and we don't. Gawn was the only one on that list I think who should have as much or more than his comparison

Because we have to pay the minimum.

Tom Browne just said that we've offered Elliot 3 years while the pies have offered 2. Also said other clubs like Bulldogs and Hawthorn will chase Elliot hard also in the next coming weeks.

Interestingly he also said that Melbourne have a tight salary cap space at the moment.

This cap tightness basically means that unless a star wants to leave, this will be about as good as the squad gets. In which case let's hope 2019 was an abberation!
It also means we must surely have a lot of our second tier players on decent wages. The only way I can see Richmond, Geelong or Collingwood being able to pay millionaires is that they pay a lot of their second tier base wages. Their success helps to keep these players though.

Not really a shock with the cap space, after the Hogan/May trade last year

Really hope we go after Harley Bennell. Really seems like he’s matured quite a lot, and I’d rather take the punt on his fitness than a few of the blokes we have coming out of contract. You wonder how much ANB, Stretch etc are on.

Worth having a free crack at someone as talented as he is, but would have thought if he'd genuinely matured and turned over a new leaf, surely Fremantle wouldn't have let him go.

Huh? One 800k player out and one in.
Yeah, but at the time we said we didn't have cap for the both of them, so it's not to surprising a year later that our cap is still tight. That's what i meant

This cap stuff is such a bad look after the season we’ve had.
In fairness, we had a lot of players who couldn't play through injury. With Lewis gone, I'I'dimagije a bit more wiggle room. But its unfair to judge the list on the back of the year we've had taking into account injury/interrupted preseason etc. If it's the same in 12 months, I'll be in agreeance though

I think we have room for one more big signing or maybe a couple of other signings like Langdon and Tomlinson. Maybe Elliott as well at a push.
When we signed Lever the club said we had room. We lost Hogan but gained May. So in theory we have room. Langdon and Tomlinson will be combined up to 1 million. Could be why we are holding out on Frost if we also want Elliott.

Dont forget Frost is worth a top 10 pick. Why would anybody want to give him up over a player only worth something in the 20s

Pathetic attempt at a joke. Frost is worth two top 10 picks.

Had a feeling you wouldn't like that. Hope you're ready for the nightmare that's going to be Langdon turnovers for the next decade.

Have always said he’s a good but not great player who will help us fill a big need. Frost has become horribly overrated by MFC fans he’s only slightly better than Omar.
