Draft Day is here

Unlike last year when the excitement of adding No.1 pick Harley Reid to our list was palpable (and also near certain), this draft is uncertain and viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation

We go into the first night with pick 12, which is expected to slide to 15 after academy and Father Son selections and a lot of guesswork on who we’ll take. Or even if we actually use that pick with rumours circulating that we might trade up or back

Night two we have pick 26 (subject to change) along with a gaggle of late picks. Again, there’s the possibility of trading into the draft with another pick using one of our later future picks and even less certainty on who we might pick

The one near guarantee is that NGA product, Malakai Champion, will be an Eagle at some point over the next couple of days

So sit back and watch to see how the draft unfolds whilst praying we don’t do something stupid

Standing at 191cm and around 85 kilograms, Bo Allan must have felt pretty safe in the fact the Eagles couldn’t possibly repeat the scenes that embarrassed Campbell Chesser when he was their first pick in 2021.

However, the Halls Head and Peel Thunder product was left looking awkward in his first official photoshoot as an Eagle, the jumper club legend John Worsfold handed him after being taken with pick 16 draping off his well-crafted physique.

I am reasonably happy.
I was worrying that we would do something stupid like trade a future first to get into the first round or move up.
The fact it didn't happen was a relief.
Thank goodness Richmond drafted Hotton. Saved us from another speculative pick.
Allan might not be every ones cup of tea but Reid a risk and Allan will be a good player even if he isn't a mid.
The trade down was what i was hoping might happen. would have preferred a better pick but it will still give us a bonus pick in a handy part of the draft.
So what will tomorrow bring. Either a steal at 30 or can we convert into two useful picks.

Thanks to North, based on the price for Pick 27 we might have just had the steal of the century 👀👀👀👀👀👀
Thanks to Norf no one was interested in our futures we were offering to buy back in . There is 1 player we rate in top 15 still on the board and another in top 20 still on the board . Glad we didnt buy back in as we are sure to pick one of these 2 with our next pick anyway .

That's either a good thing or your board isn't very good

I'm tired and quite a bit pissed off not being able to trade back in for anything remotely reasonable. We went hard to upgrade to GWS 3rd pick.

Essendon dogged us as per ****ing usual.

Richmond said don't bother unless it was basically what they got from North.

Swans didn't want to talk.

Dogs wanted our future first straight up for 20.
Swans already pissed off about Warner haha.

Assuming we take the pick in order I’d want:
1. Shanahan
2. Moraes
3. Our pick of KPD

I wouldn't be surprised if we went Hugh Boxshall 188cm the 2nd best runner in the draft
But his agility for a guy that size was amazing as well
2km time trial in 6min. 8 secs. — the equal second best of any draft hopeful this year.

Boxshall also finished third in the agility test (7.980 seconds), equal second in the standing vertical jump (73cm) and fourth in the running vertical jump (86cm)

He knows how to rack up a heap of the footy gets big numbers and get to so many contests with that running power

Would suit the new coach playing style

Agreed it wouldn’t surprise in the slightest, especially now we’ve acquired pick 44 and will almost certainly be able to get one of O’Farrell, Dennis or Nicholls.

I do think we’ll take Shanahan before him if available, Moraes I’m not so sure.

Shanahan is only viable if we want to turn him into a defender....

I'd dare say that moraes and Davis will be the next names called out tomorrow.

I'd probably try and trade whatever it takes to get Richmond's pick...to get Moraes... Even if it means doing something with Hawthorn future first...

Otherwise slim pickings

If we did what North did I would've legit had a stroke.

This is not an exaggeration when I say there is no light at end of tunnel when Kelly and Yeo leave.

I can't see a single mid in our squad beside Harley Reid and Clay. Putting faith in Hew/Hutch is such a cop out and excuse at this stage

The club we love is crumbling right in front of us and you rage that we melt.

Thanks for the reassurance. You can see the wce coloured googles when players are hyping up Bo Allen.

Lol at players describing ginbey and Allen as causing havoc off half back when they have at best average kicks.

Nothing against Bo Allen but he's an elite rotham replacement which isn't that bad
We melt for years about our lack of tough players. Rotham being a prime example. So we get in big fast tough players and you aren’t happy?
Why are Hutch and Hewitt cop outs ? If Hewitt was in this draft he’d go No1.Johnston will be a gun.
Our forward line is looking sensational. Mate you really are blinkered!

random260 is never happy.

Has probably given out more dislike and angry reacts than the entire West Coast board combined. Barely exaggerating, too.

Good lord you must live a sad life.

Have you ever posted anything on this board that isn't a catastrophising melt?

Have you ever been happy?

That's who I think you might look at for your next pick.

Having a look through the guys left. I really hope we get Dennis. Fills a massive hole and looks the most put together of the remaining prospects, especially the WA lads.

Loving the idea of Shanahan at 30. With Dogs into Moraes and not needing talls plus Tigers more likely to keep (Dodson is a logical pick for them), a real possibility.

I would love one of Gross or Davis.

Go for Boxshall and Barrat later, then add Champion.

We can probably do this but would need to give up a Hawks F2.

So if it is Dodson to Tigers at 28 and Moraes to the Dogs at 29 then us at 30 and Shanahan there is a steal.

I would love to go to Dogs and ask for pick 31.

If we could take Shanahan and Gross, that would be a great outcome.

What would I offer?
Initial fair offer of 44 plus Hawks F2.

Loads of good options should still be there at 44 if we keep it. The right slot for Nicholls or O'Farrell if we do not take Shanahan.

Alternatively, go to GWS who are done and want to cash out of 36 and get some points for Logan Smith. Offer up F2 with say 68 for 36. As a KPP, there is still a good grouping left. Shanahan, JWhitlock, Nicholls, Gerryne, Mraz, Ough, Barrat (3rd tall), O'Farrell, Sims, etc

Meanwhile the Lions have still got picks 46, 47, 49, 56 and 59. Well done Norf/Blues/Crows on gifting them these by not bidding when Levi was best available.

This could still end up a good trade and draft.
Lions wouldnt need these picks then surely? Can we offer hawks F2 for two of them?
