You’re not getting Warner for a F1 which is discounted being a future pick and a potential pick 12-18. Not even close. Certain posters here weren’t even happy with that equivalent for Barrass

Enter the ability to trade three years of draft picks next year.

Points to be chased by more teams than ever.

Plenty of options.

Because if they aren’t instantly AA then this board decides they are a spud and a failure

This is true

However next year will be Brockmans 5th year on an AFL list and he's yet to do much at all other than show some small glimpses

It isn't harsh to say 2025 is a big year for him

Bingo

This obsession with turning Reid into a key defender needs to stop, he’s on track to be a very good key forward who’s a mismatch for every defence in the competition.

I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t claim a best 22 spot by the end of 2026 latest, possibly even next year.

Has all the tools you want to see in a key forward.
I could see Oscar Allen becoming a KPD if A Reid actually becomes a gun.

We have plenty of talls, we'll be able to figure it out to balance them between KPD and KPF.

Need to get the midfield firing and get transition sorted from HB and rebuild will be done.

We are unbelievably lucky to have Allen, Waterman, jilliams and even maric to an extent as kpf leaving us the ability to flirt with the idea of throwing Archer back, for mine he's talented enough and their is a spot vacant when gov moves on sooner rather than later

It's not so much luck as poor list management I think.

Gov is coming off an AA year so you'd think he's unlikely to call it quits next year just because he's getting old, so not really any opportunity down back until 2027 or later in Edwards and Bazzo work out. Already cooked Branders career due to having no prospects in key position, have wasted half of Jake Waterman's career, had to turn Bailey Williams into a ruck, will yet likely waste Jack Williams career as floats between WAFL and 2nd ruck duties for the next 6-7 years. Have Harry Barnett signed up for 2 more years also needing to learn a new position with key back being the only option for him if he doesn't come on as a suck.

If you are Archer Reid, probably the 2nd best tall forward option in his draft year who we drafted purely on the basis of him being best available and not out of need, why would you spend the next 2-3 years developing as a key back in the WAFL when you could develop as a forward instead then get yourself a trade back to Victoria to a club that actually needs a forward? His contract is going to be up for renewal before he's a chance of breaking into the side in ANY position so why ruin what could be a career up forward when you can just elect not sign a contract extension and go somewhere else instead?

Those two, along with Hough, HEdwards, and Maric/Bazzo +some KPD draftee would finish our backline long term. Frees us Ginbey to potentially play midfield again, or even just make it a super strong back 7 with Ginbey and Travaglia dominating that half back line as ~190cm intercepting rebounders.

We definitely should only draft defender orientated players. That is the way.

When we drafted Archer we didnt know if Waterman was going to play good footy ever again. J.Williams, Allen and Archer was probably what they envisioned would be our KPF set-up after 2025.

I actually can't see any other option if either of Reid or Jack Williams comes on strong.

People on this board like to pretend Oscar is the next Buddy Franklin when in reality he's just a solid blue chip AFL level key position player but not much more. The highest purpose he could serve is being traded to a contending club that's prepared to pay massive overs for him but that's probably not necessary.

Assuming he can stay on the park, he should be first option to cover Gov or Edwards when injured starting this year [which would create regular opportunities for Reid and J Williams to fastback their development] and then once Gov retires he'd be an excellent choice at full back in our next premiership side, where he could maybe play beyond 30 if he learns to look after his body.

I strongly believe that Pav doggedly persisting as an undersized key forward to 350 games, when he could have finished his career down back and let the Freo find some proper big boys up forward maybe stopped them winning a Premiership under his captaincy. Oscars no tweener up forward and is probably a better defender than Pav as well but I'm far more excited about what Williams and Reid can do up there, and there is no doubt that Waterman's 2024 was levels above Oscars 2023 ceiling.

Things change, we also didn't know Tom Barrass and Don Pyke were going to have falling out. Now we have a spot down back it's just a question of who fits it best.

I shouldve bolded the bit where you said we drafted him because he was best available. He was considered a need 12 months ago, Waterman doing what he did kind of changed that

Actually think it’s more likely that Allen stays forward with junk… I mean waterman and Reid and due to the non ability of Flynn to get on the ground and b Williams complete lack of ability big jack Williams should be turned into a ruck… he at least knows how to ruck from infront and he can cover the ground

Hold 12 and get Richmond as a favour to bid on Kako at 10 or 11 [I can see him not being bid on otherwise]. Richmond will of course take Allan before he gets to us and likely anyone else we like as well. Hold Essendon's 28, 31 and 46 for them then when they come back into the draft we exchange 12 for the Melbourne F1 and give them back 31, take 26 and 28 and 46 to the draft. Balance it out however with the futures.

Eagles should bid on Kako at #12 and then offer to trade with Essendon to hide their draft picks.

Smillie has a huge potential upside, but whether he fulfils that potential remains to be seen.

We need to compare him to other mids, and not other "guys his size".

Compared to the other top mids of the draft, he is slower, less agile, lower endurance, less defensively minded etc etc.

"While usually a polished and poised user, Smillie was tested at the National Championships. Other, smaller midfielders lifted with the pace of the game, and he was afforded less time to play to his own cruisy tempo. As a result, his kicking efficiency fell to 56 per cent and much of his impact centred around the stoppages. He struggled to get involved in his second position as a forward, too."

I think we are hoping for some run and gun quick ball movement under Mini and Smillie doesn't seem to fit his game style.

I hope he gets a good run at it and best of luck to him but WC can do a lot better.
You cannot ignore his point of difference , thats why its a point of difference. His size and obviously very good midfield craft will release quicker players for minis run and gun style. Reid, Hewett and Smillie would be a deadly middle three.

Really like the idea of a run and carry player. Harley had 42 bounces and our next best was Ginbey with 15.

But also so sick of players (mostly the old heads) burning runners

Do the bombers have an interest in trading?

They will lose picks 28 and 31 matching a bid for Kako so whether it’s us or another club, those two picks will get traded out - from memory they have enough points with later picks to match a bid on Kako from about 7 onwards

Trade out 28 and 31 for our 2x F2 picks, then trade back in after a bid for 26 using their F2

It’s a trade as obvious as the nose on Pav’s face - suits both clubs perfectly. And with Vozzo at Essendon with Rosa, there should be no dramas trading with them

I have a mate that said they played with him in school.
Said he was a dick, his 1 trick was running rings at centre bounces so that the his oppo had to go with him (apparently they had a dominant ruck)
And in a game they were winning some 100 to 0 blew up at someone who conceded a point.
Mate also goes for Carlton and didn't know who owies was, but that might be due to, "I stopped watching when all our players got injured and we shat the bed"
So grain of salt.
I trained with him as a junior. Still holds a national little athletics 800m record I’m pretty sure. Elite runner, played an age group up in the 16s and 18s both times. Was always confident of his abilities, was the smart pick for WCE in that draft.
