I had a line of sight on that yes. Don’t really mind if you think that’s reliable or unreliable but I wouldn’t form such strong views based on opinion rather than fact.

What does line of sight mean?

To me that means 1st hand you were there and saw it unfold.

If so fair enough.

Or 2nd hand someone explained what happened.

Either way even if Clarke carries on like a pork chop any failure is on the club. Not just one individual. If one person comes in and takes over that's on the club that allowed one individual to take over.

And that I do not believe for one second. We are not Saint Kilda handing the reigns to Ross the Boss.

Can't believe he has us taking Lindsay and not Allen(gone a pick before anyway) before going on to say that WCE may not even be targeting Allen to begin with.

New Gettable.

Cal thinks there is a decent chance Murphy Reid falls to our pick.

I genuinely believe that there is a clear top 15 - and we'll end up selecting at 15. I suspect that's why we were happy to remain in this bracket despite our questionable deal with the Blues.

Best case scenario is the likes of Shanahan, Berry, or Hotton are nabbed earlier, allowing someone like Allan or, here's hoping, Travaglia to slide through. But of course, it may well be that our preferred targets including the aforementioned players and Lindsay are gone, and that Murphy Reid is the leftover prospect at #15.

In which case we have to take him. He's clearly best available, and we can't let mummy issues dictate our selections too much. He'll have three years to settle in and if he ends up leaving we'll likely fetch a good return anyway.

Also, I want more Reids!!!

Anyone else get slightly depressed when you hear the media talk about the top prospects for the draft and the jarring realisation that we traded out of pick 3 hits home again.

Sort of like a horrible flash back to when you do something really stupid when you were drunk and have to live with it being true.

Even if you are right and there is a top 15, its not really a top 15 for us as we do not want a tall. Its really a top 12 or so for us, and we are picking at 15. The actual reality is we want a genuine gun mid so it SHOULD be a top 6 for us but we won't be getting those guys.

Exact opposite actually. More I read about the more it looks like (as "experts" have been saying) that you really can throw a blanket over the top dozen or so

Eg Tauru ranked at 11 on the ABC rankings, tipped to go at 2 by ESPN, Lalor ranked at 6 by ABC, tipped to go 1 by ESPN, Jagga Smith ranked 3rd by ABC, tipped to go 8 by ESPN

Listen at approx. 14 mins. He concludes most club's best work is done in the draft rather than via trade.
Yes but he left out a lot of context.

Most teams don't end up trading for A-graders and top picks don't generally leave the club they were drafted too, unless it's toward the twilight of their career, or they failed to live up to expectations and need a fresh start.

Nearly all trades and FA moves are to fill list needs with role players.

But inside that 15, there are tiers.

Tier 1: FOS, Smith, Lalor, Draper
Tier 2: Langford, Smillie, Reid
Tier 3: Tauru, Travaglia, Armstrong, Lindsey, Allan

Tauru might go early because North need KPP. But don't be thinking that all those prospects are on the same level.

Sure, but pretty much all of them will be gone by pick 14 or 15 depending on if Lombard or Kako are bid on before our pick. So we miss out on the best talent.

sure, but the moral of the story is the same: Don't piss #3 up the wall.

So you'd be happy taking Travaglia over FOS, Lalor, Draper? I wouldn't have thought so.
