To be fair if they wanted to come home and play for West Coast they would have.
Maybe.

It's just hard to have any faith in the club at the moment. Trading out Pick 3 did not help.

Whoever is making our sales pitch to these depth/delisted plebs at other clubs doesn't appear to be doing a very good job.

Gee whiz, on paper you'd think a Powerhouse club like ours, rich, decent crowds, bottom of the ladder, brand new coach, spots up for grabs in the B22, Harley Reid....

Nope, Ross the boss is more appealing apparently. Or in Dev and Garcia's case, playing in the VFL and wasting your AFL career.

I'm scratching my head as to how/why Owies is here. Are we the only ones willing to pay for that absurdly high salary it was reported he wanted?

Alot of people seem to assume young West Aussie players will just automatically want to come home

Alot prefer to stay where they are and make their own way in a new place

Carroll wouldve been a nice to have but he's not worth worrying too much about

Are we dumb enough to offer pick 3 and our F1st for picks 6 and 11?

Because THAT is what North are doing.

It would be good for us if North do somehow get pick 11 off Richmond

If Richmond retain 10 and 11, I suspect they take another mid/running player with one of those picks and Armstrong with the other. (Think both Saints and Melbourne are likely to overlook Armstrong)

However, if they do trade 11 to North I think they still take Armstrong as the best KPF in the draft which they need since Reiwoldt has retired and Lynch has 1-2 years left in him at best. North would then take a KPF (likely Shanahan) with pick 11 to bookend Tauru

That means another runner for us to choose from - so likely 2 of Lindsay/Reid/Allan instead of just one of that group

Now if St Kilda decide they want Armstrong, pushing Richmond to take Shanahan and North to take Whitlock AND Melbourne take Reid or Allan then the draft might look something like this :

1 - Lalor (Richmond)
2 - Tauru (North)
3 - O’Sullivan (Carlton)
4 - Draper (Adelaide)
5 - Smith (Melbourne)
6 - Smillie (Richmond)
7 - Langford (St Kilda)
8 - Armstrong (St Kilda)
9 - Allan (Melbourne)
10 - Shanahan (Richmond)
11 - Whitlock (North)
12 - Travaglia (West Coast)

The other hypothetical is Richmond keep 11 leaving the draft order before us remains unchanged and we are left with Reid as the best option still available.

North then offer us their F1 they’d put on the table to Richmond for pick 12 so they can take Shanahan. Do we do that deal - giving us another potential top 4 pick next year?

We’d probably want to know if one of Richmond (20 or 23), GWS (21) or Sydney (22) would accept the Hawthorn F1 in a trade. Coupled with the previously discussed Essendon trade which gives us 28 and 31 for 26 after swapping around F2 picks

Means just a pick from 20-23 plus 28 and 31 in this draft which is a modest hand for finishing 16th.

But a bumper draft hand next year
2x F1 - Ours and North
1x F2 - Essendon
2x F3 - Ours and Hawthorn

Based on this years ladder that’s 2,3,26,39,49
I am not disagreeing with you. However, if so many of the Eagles' Big footy members think Travaglia is better than Allan and Travaglia is Victorian, why Melbourne will draft Allan and not Travaglia

Carroll wouldve been a nice to have but he's not worth worrying too much about

Adding Carrol after 4 years of development and about to hit his straps would've been bloody handy though. Especially for free.

Instead our mid depth is once again lacking. There's Hall, and that's it. Jury is out on him. Trew was our best depth mid and he's gone. I refuse to acknowledge Sheed exists.

Which means we need to address it in the draft, rather than other areas. That's a bit annoying, Carroll would've saved us a pick doing this and we could've topped up elsewhere.

Why?

Because Dees need inside mids. Viney is over 30, Oliver looks cooked off and on field and Petracca is nearing 30.

They are also stockpiling a number of quality WA players that traditionally do well.

PLUS a certain Victorian player in WA may look for a trade in coming years.

He came out and debunked the rumours that he'd asked for a kings ransom

I don't disagree, I wanted him. Sounds like the club did too and had a crack. But he's hardly worth getting too upset over. As others have said, a guy like Prior could offer something similar

People struggle to understand that Perth is a bit of a shithole compared to Melbourne and Sydney especially, and even struggles against Brisbane.
Define shithole. Perth is a bloody great place to live.

I was stirring the pot. It's not a shithole.

It's a different/slower place that doesn't appeal to a lot of people in their 20's

Supporting Evidence: I left Perth at 24 for Sydney and found it way better. Every time i come back I jut get the vibe of country town comparatively. Having spent plenty of time in Melbourne i can confirm Melbourne is also way cooler.

I mean, I don't blame them tbh. It takes a pretty ballsy commitment to move all the way across the country to play for a club that's won 10 games in three years. And that's before you start thinking about they'll also be under a new coach with a different gameplan and teething problems. Best to just stay in Vic until you feel your career's cooked THEN look to go West.

If WC had've landed Carroll, there would have been a moan about collecting more hand-me-downs, and because we didn't pursue/land him, WC have been derelict in its efforts to secure a fringe player delisted by Carlton.....gotta' love these forums.
