The all important changes for next week

Come on Rickety, Shaggar was one that played OK last week.

hmmmm, i only saw a replay of the game, but i still say nay. he may have got on the end of a couple of things, and maybe a late goal, but he is slow and struggles to kick 45m these days. Lower offers more for mine. he is harder at it, faster, more versatile and can kick 50m. he may not have the "history" or experience of Grant, but surely he is the future.

If Lower plays, he is a certainty to play a half forward tagging role on Kennelly.

If that is the case and we are back to playing defensively in the forward fifty, then we have lost already. While this ploy can work against teams like the bulldogs, Sydney is a completely different kettle of fish. Enough of this, let Lower show for once what he can do as an attacking midfielder.

The only time (as mentioned before) I can remember Lower being played in a attacking role was against the Power when we got thrashed by 80 or so points (no not this time, the other time we played them).

He is too good and has too much talent to be wasted in run with roles, no matter how effective he may be at doing them.

While I do want to see Ed in the midfield at some point, Kennelly is massively important to Sydney. Almost their most important player.

You only have to look at the way they were all over us once he decided to take the game on out of the back line opposed to Sansbury in round 6. Roos will remember that and Tadhg needs to be shut down.

Out: McIntosh, Harding, Jones
In: Ross, Lower/Riggio, Sinclair

Edward or Jones has to go - Edwards has more X factor.
Hardin - Inj.
McIntosh - Obviously one of our first picked when match-fit, but atm he just ain't ready.

Ross - Has good disposal, Pacey and is actually pretty good around the packs.
Lower/Riggio - I hate how these guys are given ****ing defensive jobs. We all saw what Lower could do in the prelim...
Sinclair - Solid player does some good things and has experience.

Look everyone needs to settle down. Watt was one of our best players against Geelong in Rd 21. He will not get dropped. Riggio has a bright future, but the guy along with Swallow cannot kick. He simply cannot hit a target and besides it is too risky bringing him into a sudden death final when he hasn't played for 2 months! The same goes with Swallow.

The only players that have a chance of selection this week are:

Sinclair (100% of playing)-One of turtle and urqs wont play
N.Thompson (90% of playing)-More than likely he will come in either for Jones/Edwards/Mac/Hansen
Lower (50% of playing)-Will come in if both turtle and urqs dont play.
L.Brown (50% of playing)-Will come in if Laidely decides to drop 2 of Edwards,Jones and Mac.
Swallow-(20% of playing) A small chance he will come in for Harris, but highly unlikely.

The others (Riggio, S.Thompson, Goldstein) i feel are no chance of playing this week. I will be very very surprised if they do.

My point is that I actually would like to see the best out of him and this won't come from him playing a tagging role on the HF flank. He has shown he does this well, but from my point of view, I don't see his future secured at North, he does not play enough games for us- practically brought in specifically for this run with HF job.

If he was to get some real mid field time, it would mean more time for Lower in the future next year in the North side or maybe some more attention from other clubs, eg. Port. While I really don't want to see him traded as he is a great mongrel of a player, both these scenarios are more advantageous for the club than playing him 4-5 times a season when we need to shut down a play maker on the opposition's HB line. If he can show what he can do in the middle, the club wins out- this is where he is born to play.

Simply from a spectator's perspective, I would like to see Lower in the middle and getting more of it. He is a really tough and entertaining player that mauls the opposition with his desperation and tackling.

i.e., when he was left unattended as a loose man in their back half, while Sansbury had a daydream.

I'll be especially surprised if Riggio gets a game, having been rubbed out in the VFL.

I think your assessment above is otherwise pretty right.

I note in passing that Power seemes to be universally regarded as safe, an automatic selection. His game vs Port was so ineffective (and I know he wasn't alone), I would have thought his position would at least come under scrutiny ; but he seems to have a free pass.

Riggio is a better kick than Lower.

Very good summation.

I think a likely scenario could be:
Sinclair in for Urqs
Thomo in for H

Everyone has given up whinging because there is no point. He IS an automatic selection. Didn't perform his 'role' on Saturday - that's for sure.

As I stated earlier in this thread S S, Laidley said the other night that Urq's and Thomas will definitely be playing, "as they have earnt the right to because, whilst a bit out of sorts of late, they're responsible for getting us into the finals in the first place!"

Have you ever watched Riggio in the VFL, because if you have you would see that he is one of the BEST kicks, some very nice low trajectory passes, that go straight to the man. Not some of these Simmo specials that come down with snow on them.
Swallow I would agree with needs to work on his kicking, but I think has improved.

Totally agree Muscles.............kicking quality isn't/hasn't been Riggs' issue at all. HIS issue has been that on his bad days he doesn't get involved in the play enough to show us his great kicking. Riggio, when IN FORM, is a definite enhancement to our side. He was on a roll earlier in the year and fell away fairly abruptly. I'd love to think that, if given the opportunity in the finals, we'd see the very best of the guy as his toughness combined with his quality disposal came to the fore.

Sounds like Thommo and Lower for Hamish and Jones - which would be pretty good changes.

Thommo will probably have to ruck though, but expect Petrie to play almost the whole game in there.

Thank god for that.

Corey Jones has done sweet **** all, all season.

Should have been dropped weeks ago, but has gotten a free ride because of that awesome tap on he made against the Bulldogs.

Forward line only ruckwork?

Sounds good to me. Even if Hale, Thommo & Edwards in the same forward line is a little concerning.

Petrie 75-80% in the ruck, the rest to be taken by Thommo and/or Hale in short bursts, depending on who is doing better up forward. Edwards to play a bit further up the ground and can drift deep when Thommo/Hale is in the ruck.
