Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

The selectors won't drop Clarke. No chance of that happening imo.

Absolutely none. But that doesn't mean they're right. I get the feeling that Clarke has been resting on his laurels since his early 20's in a pretty safe position as captain in waiting. Never lived up to his potential for such a technically sound and talented batsman. That or his degenerative back injury is causing him more grief than they are letting on. He's been mediocre over the last few years on the balance for mine.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

North OUT Ferguson IN, get it done selectors.

Good to see North brought undone, by none other than Collingwood and Swan(n)!!

Kwaljah ( spelling) is all class, Ferguson i think is too, though both possibly need a little more time back at Shield level, White almost worth a shot. Apart from everything else, this guy seems to have a winning culture and mentality

Hussey has played a beautiful innings, so assured leaving outside off, and so sure when he attacks.

An absolute classic given the pressure he was under...such a fine line this game sometimes...imagine what a first ball duck would have done for his standing.... like he so nearly got!

Credit to G Chappell, for his words of advice, in the lead up to this game.

Nah, you can't blame Clarke, he has a recurring back injury, which some doctors have told him (sources:thumbsu:) needs 12 months rest after a fairly major surgery, but it would cost him too much to rest for that long, so he continues to play.

He simply shouldn't have been selected for the first test, he grabbed at his back after running the first single after he got in the middle, now that indicates to me he has a major problems.

North and Hussey (up to today) were the 2 under extreme pressure to hold their places for Adelaide, Hussey, no matter what, will play every test now, while I'm actually hoping North gets less then 20 in the second innings so a young bloke gets a chance ahead of him (I honestly don't care which of Kuwaja, Smith or Fergo it is).

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

Clarke is a good batsmen but not the sort of guy who is going to win you series to often. Over his whole career he has been close to the level that I see Ricky at right now. Too good to not contribute but missing something to dominate. With Clarke (much like M Waugh) it is the concentration side of things, whether his back problems are related to the fact that he often gets starts and doesn't convert are another thing.

Smith right now reminds me a tad of where White was at when he was first put into the Aussie side. The selectors want him to play as a bowling all round and it is clear for all and sundry that he is a batting one. Smith is a more correct batsmen and has more control in his bowling but there is a rush to bring him into the aussie side to play as a spin bowler when his strength is he is unlikely to ever be that player. He is a good batsmen but no where near ready to play at the level needed in test matches. The selectors need to be careful because I'd dare say White giving up the bowling to focus on his batting has a lot to do with him being used as a bowler.

Usman is class but I don't see the rush to get him in. IMO we need to stop marking players for the aussie side and then just letting them take their course and pick much more on form and after their performances against England, Hughes (who has performed at test level) and White (who has performed at international level) should be ahead of Usman. If he is good enough he will get a spot soon enough.

Hughes was all over the shop for Aus A a few weeks ago. It was a seriously poor way to go out the way he did, just poor defence. I have hopes for him but I think he may need to keep it up at state level for a bit - especially with Katich and Watson to replace.

North is the position to worry about, and Clarke while he is injured. Clarke you have to either bite the bullet and send in for surgery or persist with. They are obviously going with the latter. North is liability at this stage, it's a shame because I think he missed his chance at his best 4 or 5 seasons ago. For me it should be Ferguson or White. Ferguson is the future, and proven at international level but perhaps best suited to coming in at 4 or 5. White is a great option at 6 as he is geniune match winner when he is on which is probably worth the gamble. He'd also lift our fielding standards. Either would work for me tbh.

Agree that Smith is not an option for the reasons you outlined.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

My changes for the second test for the Aussies would be;

Out: North (for good) Clarke (needs to rest that back)
In: Kuwaja, Smith (need a second spin option in Adelaide)

Then if Clarke isn't right for Perth, bring Ferguson in for Smith for the 3rd test.:)

Doesn't matter anyway, the Poms are shit, just like I said, this may be another sweep for the Aussies.:D

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

We should've just played with 10, probably have a better chance of winning.
You mean 9 don't you?

Johnson and North are playing like statues, no runs with the ball, 2 dropped catches, and no wickets.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

a draw will be worth a lot of confidence to the poms going into the rest of the series
if this ends up being a draw and it will, this will be devastating the Australian side after being in that position.

England are in full control now.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

Proving to be quite a dull match interspersed with gold. (hatrick)

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

Lol we made 400+ runs guys. England can't bowl us out either.
England's bowling lineup is stronger then Australia's. This game will be a draw which will be as good as a win for England after how the first 2 days went. This could damage the Australian players pyschy going into Adelaide.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

Good on Huss for making a big score.

I don't think these will happen but next test my changes would be;

In: White, Bollinger.

Out: North, Johnson.
Cameron White? lol. Why? He shouldnt be looked at.

The changes should be Bollinger, Harris and Ferguson and out should be Hillfa, Johnson and North but it wont happen.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

I'm a big Bushrangers fan, but White? pffft... Is not a test player. There is no way Johnson should play in Adelaide, but we'll have to wait and see. I would prefer to see North not in the side, but unless Ferguson/Khawaja can stake a claim, it may not change.

Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England Test Series.

Mitchell Johnson and North just have to be dropped.

Obviously Bolinger will come in for Johnson but not sure who should come in for North but basically anyone will do.

Out of the two you mentioned White is in better form than both of them.
