The best teams at NOT going back to back

Lucky premiers that won the premiership missing three AA players. But poor Richmond had 5 players with Gastro 😢.

Richmond should thank West Coast for losing any motivation after 2018, because the talent discrepancy between the two teams was enormous.
I know the talent discrepancy was massive, Richmond had the better backline, midfield and once we added Lynch the better forward line too

And between 2017-2020 when West Coast played finals each year Richmond went 3-1 against them, West Coast had one good year and were lucky premiers that year too
2017: 11 points at the MCG
2018: 47 point loss in Perth
2019: 6 points at the G

Stagger over the line at home, smashed away. Maybe we should call Richmond the lucky premiers to get to play 80 per cent of their games, finals an all, at home.

Richmond were worse on every part of the ground. Eagles had 10 AA players and another 3 AA level. Richmond were built off shit footballers that could apply good pressure.

Thank your lucky stars we were decimated in 2020 with injury.

Richmond had multiple premiership stars miss a lot of 2020, but West Coast had some good ordinary players, ok then

Richmond had 9 All australians for what it’s worth.

One of which is counting Cotchin all the way back in 2012 and Bolton in 22.

Eagles 10 were all 2 years either side of 18.

It’s pretty obvious who had the better list, Richmond 2020 is a fraud premiership given the real best team in the AFL was decimated through injury.

Yet Richmond were able to finish top four multiple years, West Coast had one good year and were nowhere near contenders in any other

Name West Coast injuries those years then
In 2020 one all Australian Richmond player missed significant time, and he might be the worst AA selection ever. I think you had a pretty nice run champ compared to eagles missing two of the best mids ( one being the captain) and the best key defender in the comp for significant time.

He champed me how cute

Richmond 2018 is still the best football team I can remember in my 42 year life, except for one disastrous half of footy and the 2m yank ruined it.. They were completely dominant and no one looked close to touching them.

Did you not see the 2000 Bombers, the Lions dynasty, 2007 Cats, the 2009-2011 Saints/Cats/Pies, the Hawks dynasty, 2022 Cats

All were far superior sides both statistically and talent wise. Tigers dynasty was built on lesser talented guys playing above their level and being a great team unit that had a gamestyle that outworked other sides. They were nowhere near as talented superstar/star wise as the teams i listed above.

Much more comparable to the 2016 Doggies. Lots of heart and grit to make up for the lack of superstar talent.

It just depends in what you want to value?

Do you rate teams that didn't necessarily have the stars but played their system better and overwhelmed opposition with pressure/grit than anyone else higher?

Or do you rate teams that utilised their superstar/star talent to dominate teams and leave no doubt.

It's all subjective of course but you'd be hard pressed to find many that agree with your take.

So probably a sigh of relief for other clubs that Tigers did not make 1968 as they may have rampaged through the Finals as in 1969.

Could have been a Essendon vs Richmond Grand Final for the first time since 1943 and not been seen since. Pity!

For an Ess/Rich grand final to happen Carlton would also have had to lose another game to miss the double chance. Carlton actually beat Essendon in the second semi final to book a grand final spot.

Agree that Richmond would have been very dangerous.

In Round 7, Essendon played Richmond at Windy Hill in a rain-sodden game that finished in such dark conditions that players could not see across the ground. In the last quarter, a goal was awarded to Geoff Gosper, although several Richmond players protested that the ball had hit the post. Essendon won the match by two points, 11.14 (80) to Richmond's 10.18 (78).

Richmond missed finals that year by half a game, makes you wonder what could have happened if the Richmond players were correct and it did hit the post and Richmond end up winning that game and making finals

Yes you are right

Could have been the first Carlton vs Richmond Grand Final im yonkers instead of the year after…

Bollocks

Richmond set up camp in a Gold Coast resort next to Metricon Stadium. It became their "home away from home" for 3 months and they barely had to travel anywhere. 11 games in Queensland, plus another 5 games of "fly in, fly out" and return back to their Gold Coast resort.

3 of their 4 finals were played at the Gabba & Metricon (including a Gabba Grand Final, which was just a 40 minute bus ride from where they stayed.)

Meanwhile the Hawks were pushed from pillar to post - 3 times they had to relocate their entire staff, squad and equipment for 4 week stays in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Never settled.

Laughable the way Hardwick and the Richmond FC pulled their puds about how they "overcame adversity" to win the 2020 Covid Cup. They were kissed on the dick. No club (aside from the Brisbane Lions) had a better, more stable, more cushy set up & fixture than the Tigers did that season.

If you could've polled all 10 coaches of the Victorian teams and asked them whose fixture & hub set-up would you most want for the Covid season, they all would've unanimously answered, "We'll take the Richmond deal!!"

Hawks 83. That las quarter fade out, still haunts.

Hawks 86. Should have beaten Carlton in 87.

Hawks 1990, should have beaten Melbourne in the elimination final, they were our only real threat of the other finalists.
Played Collingwood late in '90 and smashed them by 14 goals...the Cheif kicked a lazy 11 that day.
