Could have had him for 12-15 mill if we waited another season but we need good players now. I'd have expected us to pay 16 odd for Downing so 20m is about 4 mill overpriced in my books. Carroll was worth 25 when we paid 35 although Torres was worth 25 and we sold him for 50 so we can't complain :)
 
I think its 17.5m with a 2.5m add on clause if we qualify for Europe.

Few rumours circulating Higuain could be linked especially if aguero and/or tevez go to madrid. I dont know how he would fit in but would be a good buy.

Cissokho, Enrique or Perriera for LB?

Reds seal Downing deal

Stewart Downing has today completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Liverpool.

The winger, who has 27 England caps, put his signature on a long-term deal after passing a medical.

Downing is the club's fourth major signing of the summer following Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni.

you paid for 35 million for someone who is worth barely 5.
 
Finishes 3-6. Pretty much the same as last match, although Malaysia did have a bit of the ball at times but the 2nd half defense giving away a couple of easy ones. The main positive was aqua, was well above anyone out there and if he can play anywhere near like that against a good side I hope we keep him. Agger looked a bit better after another hit out. Only negatives really was some poor defending overall but probably the lack of intensity being pre season has a lot to do with that. Insua impressed also.
 
lol @ all of the wood that we are trying to offload getting game time. Hopefully Ngog's performances in the last 2 games have driven his price up by a million quid or so. When's our next friendly? I'd like to see something resembling the lineup we will be playing this season next time.

Aqua's good showing really raises more questions than it answers. Do we keep him and move Meireles on or move Aqua on or keep/move both?

Raul can score more goals but Aqua's passing was much better and could well combine more effectively with Suarez. Not really sure what we should do.

Gerrard, Skrtel and Reina recovering from surgery, Lucas and Suarez in the Copa tourny, Henderson getting a later start due to under 21s, Downing just arriving, and Aurelio stubbing his toe getting out of the bath mean we won't see the expected first team together for a while yet. Really is just a chance to see what squad members have to offer, and possibly put them in the shop front window.

More relish looked poor tonight. but it's hopefully just rust as he returns from injury.

I cannot imagine any scenario where I'd prefer to keep Aquilani over Meireles, we have Adam if we need a great passer of the ball. Meireles is one of the best CM's around anywhere IMO and we should hang on to him unless someone is prepared to pay us stupid money for him (excluding Scum and Chavski).

seems as though we contacted OL about two weeks ago regarding aly cissokho but haven't made a bid. it's pretty clear they want to sell him, possibly for a loss and I think the only thing holding it back is whether we want him or not. the media are going crazy over it I think that's for the "told you so" should we be seriously interested.
 
Anyone keen to have a stab at a starting XI as the squad stands (cant see too much more happening in this tansfer period except maybe a LB)

Maybe: Reina, Kelly, Agger, Carragher, Johnson, Downing, Meireles, Gerrard, Kuyt, Suarez, Carroll
